I believe that the book should be written from the perspective of the truffula trees because it shows how exactly the trees represent plants and animals that suffering due to the human impact on the environment. My perspective shows how business and industries are taking over animals’ homes and food sources. Animals become extinct because because humans hunt them, pollution, or the destruction of the places where they live. It also shows how forests are being cut down to make business and to use the wood to make buildings.lastly, all the chemicals in the air affect our environment in a bad way causing air pollution which hurts people and animals. All in all, i think that the book should be written in the truffula trees’ perspective because
The first chapter of The Bean Trees opens up to our protagonist Marietta who lives in a small town of Kentucky named Pittman. She gets the idea to leave home and head west. Her mother consults her about her decision and tells her to stay but Marietta ignores her request and leaves Pittman. Marietta decides to change her name to Taylor as she is starting a new life. On her adventure she stops at a bar to pick up coffee and continue her drive.
Kingsolver implies the importance of accepting help from others by portraying various relationships the characters build. The characters in the Bean Trees become united as a family by the mutual support they share despite the absence of blood-linked relationships. This idea of untraditional form of family is shown from the relationships Taylor builds. When Taylor first moved into Lou Ann’s house, Taylor felt extremely uncomfortable accepting help from anyone. By refusing help from the others, Taylor was isolating herself from all the connections people around her were making. However, when she starts to feel comfortable relying on others, she considers the community as ‘family’. Change in Taylor is presented when she risks herself of being
The Lorax is definitely more agreeable than the Truax. This is mostly due to the fact that it is more credible and has a more pure and innocent message. Meaning that the other contradicting children's novel; The Truax. Was trying to cover up a bigger problem that they didn’t want out in public. On top of this, The Lorax had positively influenced several businesses to be more environmentally safe. For example, a Los Angeles Times article commented on a 2012 movie based off of Seuss's Lorax book, “ Nearly 70 promotional partners are involved with the film, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Forest Service as well as companies such as Hewlett-Packard (which is encouraging eco-conscious printing choices), and Seventh Generation (which claims to be the leading brand of green household products). “ Most of all, The Lorax was agreeable because of the fact that its message was to protect the trees of the forest. In fact, there are several ways that trees influence the things around them. One of these important ways are within the carbon cycle. In this, tree’s perform photosynthesis. In which they convert CO2 into sugars and release oxygen into
In his book, Last Child in the Woods (2008), Richard Louv illustrates his distaste for the widening divide between man and nature by his use of exemplification, narration and hypophora. Louv’s purpose for writing this book is to inform the audience that mankind should change its ways and move towards a lifestyle that is more appreciative of its surroundings. Louv uses a frustrated tone to invoke the feeling of guilt within the reader because they are responsible for making humanity unappreciative of nature.
The narrator's vision of her ancestors expanding a plentiful life is emphasized with the picturesque “blue fields…with leaves and vines and orchards.” This then strikes the narrator with the realization that cutting down the tree would be a betrayal to their ancestors, their dreams and the demise of the heritage of the
Seuss’ The Lorax is one of his many works that highlights a problem the world faces; in the Lorax he addresses environmental issues. The book takes place in a fantasy forest full of ‘Truffula Trees,’ and is centered around the ‘Once-ler’ that destroys the forest to make Thneeds to sell to the public. It introduces the debate of human wants vs. environmental protection. Seuss focuses on deforestation and resource depletion. He emphasizes the devastation of environments by highlighting the plights that some of the native animals face.
English is my second language because I was not born in the United States. Reading is a difficult task for me since I was 10 years old. When I was in Elementary School, I like to read books with a lot of pictures because I can understand the story much better. I started to read Dr. Seuss’s books, it is the book for beginner with short poems, colorful pictures and rhyming words. The stories in the Dr. Seuss can help me learn new words. The stories behind the book are teaching the readers useful lesson addressing issues in the society. The issue can be simple as protecting our environment because human are destroying it by cutting trees and polluted the air in “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss.
Dr. Seuss displays an alternate universe where the Lorax is the speaker for the Truffala Trees. One day an aspiring entrepreneur, the Once-ler, discovered how versatile the trees really were and began to distribute the product. The Once-ler calls the Truffala Trees byproduct, Thneed; the public quickly admires the product. Thneed was made from Truffala Trees and due to the demand for it, Truffala Trees were quick to dwindle in numbers. In ladder years, a young boy hears about the almost extinct trees and tries to find out why they are no longer are abundant. The young boy finds the Once-ler, who tells him “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot nothing is going to get better it's not” (Dr. Seuss) Deforestation and the destruction
The relationship between the Tree and the family in the poem The Black Walnut Tree by Mary Oliver is conveyed as harsh and difficult. If they choose to sell the tree then it’s assured that the house will be safe, however, they lose a part of their history. If they do not sell the tree, then they have a chance of the tree destroying the house, but they are struggling to even pay the mortgage and cannot afford any more expenses. By the selected spacing of the poem, figurative language, and lyric this relationship dilemma is conveyed.
In the story, Once-ler discovers the resource, truffula trees, and uses it as the main product of his business. After his destruction of a truffula tree, he’s then warned by the Lorax to cease his actions. Nevertheless, the Once-ler fails to recognize his concern and the dowry of his actions began to surface. The atrocities that occurred due to his operation resulted in deforestation and pollution, which inevitably created a egregious environment that was no longer habitual to the inhabitants of the area. Despite his actions, the Once-ler does
The novels begins with a doubtful case, which the first sentence has already given readers sense of foreboding: “Small trees had attacked my parents’ house at the foundation…. They had grown into the unseen wall and it was difficult to pry them loose.” (Pg.1) These silent "uninvited guest" disturbed the quiet weekend afternoon, it also seems to foreshadow that the quiet life of a happy family is about to be broken.
Throughout the casebook different civilizations are affected by the environment. All of these stories have similar tones and contexts that relate to vulnerability and being in a very desperate state. Some of the stories also show a hostile tone. A commonality throughout the different texts is the effect the environment has on the different civilizations. A few of the texts relate to each other through a famine and the others relate to each other through disastrous floods. One text is different than the others and talks about a change in government power which causes many natural disasters including earthquakes and draughts. All of these environmental disasters also lead to consequences in the societies, cultures, and economies.
Also another book/movie that have influenced me is the “Lorex”. It talked about deforestation and in the end how the animals all had to leave in the same way my story did. The message in that story somewhat involves money and greed, where my story doesn’t. My story focus more on the environmental effect of humans being greedy and ignorant but in my story it is not mentioned, but more of a hidden
The last tree is cut down, the tree crashes and all that is left is you and the dark black hills that used to be full of color. The sky is no longer blue and the rivers are no longer clean. This is the denouement of “The Lorax.” the Once-ler cuts down all the Truffula trees for their leaves. . .fluff. . . tufts or whatever they are called. He used them to make “thneeds” a ‘Fine-Something-That-All-People-Need’ The Lorax warns him but the Once-ler’s greed got to him. This is the same story that goes throughout the book and the movie. Although there are numerous similarities between the two there are bountiful differences too.
In relation to the class the tree symbolizes the many happenings around the world that don't get coverage by the media or are unknown to the rest of the world therefore in the eyes of many may seem un important because they aren't on the 6 o'clock news. These happenings include genocide, natural disasters, wars, and the many tragic events pertaining to women and children in other countries.
