Trifecta Whenever two or more people are organized for work or play, a team is created (Freedictionary.com). In order to be efficient the group must work toward the same goal, even if individual responsibilities differ. During a game of tug of war, if a player finds himself pulling in the opposite direction of the rest of his team, then maybe he needs to ponder, on which team does he really belong? Nothing is worse than being sabotaged from within ranks. In health care, the goal is to give the patient the best service. Many factors must be considered, patient contact, quality of labs, correct diagnosis and effective treatment. No one person or department is responsible for ensuring that all criteria are met. Once in the examination room, the health care worker should be focused on the patient. When members in a department work together, they ensure a smooth transition from one process to another. The obvious example is technicians helping each other move non-ambulatory patients from wheelchairs and stretchers to the imaging table. This protects the patient from further harm during transport. It also includes, changing collimators for the next scan, regardless of which technician’s initials will appear on the report. Changing linens and disinfecting the exam room while a co-worker escorts a patient out of the department. Reviewing a scan and giving a second opinion on the quality of images or taking over a study if a technician needs to go to lunch. This is especially important when the department is shorthanded and every effort needs to be made to keep patients on schedule while maintain level of care. The more often co-workers work in unison, it reduces the patient’s lag time and therefore increases the quality of
As a volunteer in the emergency room, I was exposed to various medical procedures performed by the technicians, nurses, physician assistants and physicians. I was surprised to see how a place that seems to be constantly chaotic can still give every patient the care they need. It was not until I spent more time volunteering in the emergency room did I realize that although it seemed to be chaotic, the healthcare providers had a well established routine along with teamwork. I was shocked when I saw a physician assistant delivering lunch to a patient, as this is usually done by the nurses or technicians. It was through this that I understood how teamwork is essential to providing excellent care. The health care professionals in this emergency room never pulled rank or established clear cut responsibilities, everyone just did what they could and this was how simple their routine was. They didn’t let their pride prevent them from what needed to be done, after all every healthcare worker only has one responsibility; and that is to care for the patient to their fullest

Backing all great physicians are a group of highly trained and dedicated individuals ranging from scribes to nurses. A student doctor must understand that working in groups is not just a skill needed to succeed in undergraduate school, but it is also a skill that is critical to becoming a good physician. During my times as a medical scribe in the ER, I have been present during several codes and I have witnessed the importance of group work firsthand. On several occasions, in fact, I have found myself as an important member of a patient’s care team. As a VCOM student doctor, I will continue to keep the critical principle in mind. Whether it is something as simple as studying for an exam or something as important as saving a coding patient, I will always make sure to work well with others and play my part as best as I

The main objective of healthcare professionals is to provide the best quality of patient care and the highest level of patient safety. To achieve that objective, there are many organizations that help improve the quality of care. One of the best examples is the Joint Commission. Unfortunately, the healthcare system is not free from total risks. In healthcare activities, there are possible errors, mistakes, near miss and adverse events. All of those negative events are preventable. But, it is clear that errors caused in healthcare result in thousands of deaths in the United States.

Furthermore, being able to working in a team is also essential for a physician. Coordinating thoughts and actions with colleagues will create opportunities for collective thinking, pooled efforts, and constructive criticism to more efficiently provide care. If the professionals work well together the service for the service users will be efficient, as both of the professions can communicate effectively with each other. So therefore, this means that the treatment, planning of treatment or care for the individual will be enforced and provided with much better devotion. This also means the professionals can pass things through to each other and will be prompt, as appose to if they were not working well together then there would be delays on things such as results, x-rays, files/documentation, etc; so, it is compulsory for the professions to work well together. If they’re working well together both professions will be attentive during all times, as opposed to if they were not getting on, then the outcome of this would have been that they are appalling at their job and the professionals would be perceived as incompetent by the service user, etc. In addition to this, this also means the service user will feel very insecure, unsafe and would feel much more stressed or nervous as they may be conscious and cognisant about the fact that they can see and acknowledge that the professions are not communicating effectively enough, to give the service user the best form/quality of care. The service user might feel that they’d be safer elsewhere or with other members of the professional team (who will provide the service they are require).
