Why do you want to travel to the country you have selected for your summer exchange experience?
Ever since I began learning Japanese in elementary school, I have become more and more interested in aspects of Japanese culture. My earliest memories of this are of scouring the shelves of the community library for anything, and everything, related to Japan. At the time this may have been just a passing whim, but nevertheless it sparked something in me that lasts to this day.
I am also interested in the Japanese language. After I stopped learning the language in elementary school I forgot most of it, but recently I have picked it up again. Going to Japan will force me to make the most of my language skills for communication. By being fully submerged

I would also show places that I go for fun and that are important to me such as my neighborhood, the mall, the farmers market, my favorite restaurant, my art studio, my dance studio, and my high school.
What cultural project will you share with your host family and hosting organization? The cultural project should focus on an aspect of American culture that is important to you. Example: bake or cook an American dish or treat, demonstrate a skill, teach a game or song or make a craft.
I chose dance as my cultural project because it is a huge part of my life. It is a huge part of my life and I want to share my love for it with my host family. I plan on bringing pictures and videos of my recital over to Japan to show them what kinds of dance I do. I will also bring my pointe shoes to show them a demonstration. I chose pointe for the demonstration because even in America not as many teen dancers do it as other types of dance. It is also one of my favorite forms of dance, and it is special to me. The videos could be put on a flashdrive, and I could print out hard copies of the photos to let them
Unlike most people, I did not get to be a carefree child for long. Even though I always said that I could not wait to grow up, now I wish that it all did not happen so fast and early in my life. From eleven to twelve years old—that would be the period I describe as the time I had to put my big-girl pants on and face the real, cruel and unwelcoming adult world. In that time period, I can specifically pinpoint two major events that ended my childhood: my move from Russia to the United States and the birth of my baby sister Toma. To some those might not seem significant enough to change someone’s life to the extent that they changed mine; however those events molded me into the person I am today.
There are many things that make up those who have fought for the America I believe in, courage, bravery, sacrifice, and honor for our country. Many people have fought for us, for the lives of others. It takes a lot to leave families for the war. The thought of not returning must be haunting to most, if not all veterans.
The voyage to America for the servants was a horrible journey. Servants were packed in boats with little to no space. An individual would be given 2 feet width and 6 feet length to sleep in, but boats were usually overloaded with hundreds of servants including tools, provision and other items that took up space. Packed in space, fewer boats servants were carried to England from Holland. This journey usually took two to four weeks depending on the winds. If winds were good, the journey would take eight days or sooner to arrive. Servants were allowed to take their money, but were forced to waste it all to purchase goods but they still ended starving.
The Europeans visiting the America’s was the best foot forward. There are a couple downfalls to such a successful voyage. The downfalls were disease and warfare. The successful things do outweigh the bad. Without the European exploration we would not be here right now. Spain, England and France all contribution to exploration of North America.
“There are events in life, which can change yourself or your ideas”. For me, the most primary change happens when I moved from Ethiopia to the USA. Why? My mom first answer was “For the better of your education and job opportunity” To tell the truth I didn’t want to the US I was going to leave my family and culture grew up in. Moving to America has made me a better person. Two factors that change was that the opportunities given here are extraordinary. Also realizing the difficulties my parents were going through.
“The land of the free and the home of the brave” these are people's first thoughts when they think about coming to America. Many come to america to make their dreams a reality or for many reasons as to have a better life for their kids, or the generation that come. Like the colonial immigrants, the 1800s immigrants, and the modern immigrant. All of them have reasons why they came to america or persuade their dreams. How they look at america they all have a way of looking at america different but they all have a dream in america. What is really most people dream in America?
I walked around unsteadily all day like a lost baby, far away from its pack. Surrounded by unfamiliar territory and uncomfortable weather, I tried to search for any signs of similarities with my previous country. I roamed around from place to place and moved along with the day, wanting to just get away and go back home. This was my first day in the United States of America.
Becoming a member of society is shown a lot through your interactions with others. Not having these interactions would cause us to miss out on many things in life. Meeting new people can change our lives in positive ways and we will never know unless we talk to them. When do we learn about the importance of interacting? and how do we learn to branch out? They are not taught directly in school. It may be able to be said that it is the parent's job to make sure that their child is well equipped with the answers. The only problem is that there is a limit of learning that can come from explaining to someone. That is why I feel that it is important for everyone to have experiences that open them up to the world. For me, the questions were answered
People say that coming to the United State would be a dream come true. I was born on September 21, 1998 in Thailand. I thought coming to America, my life will change to better rather than working so hard everyday and night at the farm to get just enough rice for the family. Even in the United State, my parent’s had to starve just so we can eat.

As I got on the plane I knew my life was changed. The moment when I entered the US it was a new beginning for me. As most migrants would say; this is the land of opportunities, it was totally what I expected.
A way I participate in cultural tradition is by being a folkloric dancer. I’ve been dancing since I was 5. When I first started dancing I was in a group called Yumare , then when I turned 8 my mom switched me over to the recent group I am inn called Norahua. My group helps out a lot around the community by dancing in shows , parties , events or for the capital. Last year in June I turned 15 , being hispanic that is a big part of life. Turning 15 you're becoming a woman and you start going through a lot of phrases after. In July 15, 2017 I had a big party and being Hispanic we call it a Quince. My mom and I started planning my quince the minute I turned 14 because it's a long process into getting everything. I love helping my mom and grandma make food , especially on holidays or parties. Ever since I was little I would enjoy watching them make tamales, posole, gorditas and more for christmas or on a daily and every time we make food we have to have music playing , we enjoy listening to spanish music like cumbias and huapangos or a mixture of
This case study explores the migration between Mexico and America and will argue that people who live in Mexico should be allowed to move to America for a safer and more prosperous life. It will consider the history and objective facts, distinguishing them with findings, a conclusion and recommendations. It will talk about 4 types of push and pull factors. First, “The American Dream”; secondly, War and Conflict in Mexico; thirdly, the development of the American and Mexican economies, as well as their immigration policies. In the recommendation section, it will be indicated that it is reasonable for people who live in Mexico to want to immigrate to The USA, to live in a democracy and to have the same opportunity as those who live in America,
As a first generation American of Salvadorian and Mexican descent, I am fluent in English and Spanish. Although I am bilingual, Santa Monica College’s multinational student body was a culture shock for me because of the many languages I overheard. I decided to learn Japanese because of my pleasant and friendly experiences with the Japanese community. With the assistance of my Japanese friends, I have completed elementary level Japanese 2 from SMC and learned much about the fascinating culture. This summer I will travel to Japan in aim to visit many Japanese cities, eat a lot of delicious
