René Lalique became synonymous with French Art Nouveau decorative arts. René Lalique was born in 1860 and first began designing fine jewelry in Paris in 1881. Lalique pursued increasingly more innovative experimentation in glass commencing around 1883. Early works used the familiar "lost wax" technique by which the model is made in wax while a mold is formed around the model. Then, the wax is melted and molten glass is poured into the mold. Lalique glass was made in this manner until approximately 1905 at which time the factory was redesigned for a larger production. As such, the individual uniqueness of each example of Lalique glass came to an end with the

Some of these creations are now on display at the Orrefors Glass Museum. The news that artists were engaged in a glasshouse for the first time attracted gifted glassblowers to Orrefors. The union of glassblowers and artists led to joint development of techniques such as "Graal" and "Ariel", and to further development of the traditional Bohemian cooper-wheel engraving. On the whole, Orrefors offered broad scope for experiment and innovation with new techniques being developed and older ones refined - and this is still the case today.
Success led to the arrival of new designers. The graphic artist Vicke Lindstrand came to Orrefors in 1928, and designed glass that was painted or engraved. Nils Landberg and Sven Palmqvist came at the end of the 1920's as engravers, apprentices, and after service as assistants to Simon Gate and Edward Hald became full-fledged glass artists during the 1930's. The sculptor Edvin Ohrstrom joined Orrefors in 1936.

Founded in 1742 by Swedish county governors and former war veterans Anders Koskull and Georg Bogislaus Stael von Holstein, this glassworks company got its start producing utility glass for windows and chandeliers in the Swedish royal palace and in churches. The first factory was established in a rural forested area because of the copious amounts of wood required to fuel the wood-fired furnaces. Early glassblowers crafted Kosta Boda's crystal using Swedish sand
On August 12, 2015, I received a request by P.I.O. Crystal Nosal for a photo of Alysha Howard. A request was received by Chris Teale for a photo. I saw Ms. Nosal who told me she had deferred Mr. Teale to NECMEC. There have been no leads received from the NECMEC bill board campaign as of this date.
Issue: Did the Crystal Bar, the defense, breach its duty to exercise reasonable care to protect Harrington, the plaintiff, from the harm of another patron of the bar? (citing elements of Nevin v. Carlasco, 139 Mont. 512, 514, 365 P.2d 637, 638 (1961))
Jewels were slowly becoming a popular item to sell and trade and soon became an essential for artwork and accessories. The jewels on the cover are rounded and are known as cabochon jewels. Cabochon is a technique in which the jewel is rounded and polished and then placed in the setting. So, how were these jewels set? Metalworkers were known to have used different sorts of hammers, chisels and pincers of all shapes and sizes to perfect the design. A technique known as inlaying was the process in which a metalworker carefully bent the material to form the desired
Dale Chihuly is a glass sculptor whose work has brought about a renewed interest in glass work around the world. He was born in Tacoma Washington on September 20, 1941. His biggest project to date is Chihuly Garden and Glass which features a glass conservatory, lots of botanical teamed works as well as many of Dale’s greatest works. It is located beside
As a young child, my grandmother’s china cabinet was enchanting. When the sun streamed through the cabinet at the perfect angle, pink patterns created by glass dishes were splayed on the green shag carpet. Of course, I was not interested in the glassware that produced the light display, I was just intrigued by the display itself. As I grew, my grandmother explained these two pale pink glassware sets were known as Depression Glass. Like many other women, my great grandmother collected the sets piece by piece, and they became her pride and joy. Although they may not be made of high quality glass, these cups, plates, and bowls are priceless family heirlooms that remind us that beauty can be found in the bleakest of times, even during the

Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist, and designer, was born in New York City in 1843. Tiffany, the son of Charles, who was the founder of the jewelry firm “Tiffany and Co.,” began his career as a painter and then expanded to design and direct his studios in order to “produce lead-glass windows, mosaics, lighting, glass, pottery, metalwork, enamels, glass, pottery, jewelry, and interiors” (“Louis Comfort Tiffany Stained Glass Art”; Frelinghuysen and Obniski). Beginning in the late 1870’s the decorative arts and interiors caught Tiffany’s eyes and he began exploring and trialing with stained glass (Frelinghuysen and Obniski). As years passed he introduced blown-glass vases and bowls called “Favrile.” The
When I attend the Oklahoma Art Museum this morning, I was completely blown away by the different styles, technique, and artistic abilities that artist have. Art can come in many forms and can involve many different things. From paintings, sculptures, and abstract pieces of the modern world. Along with my visit, I got to experience a new collection of blown glass that was absolute remarkable. As I walked though the museum, it was as I walked though time and got to see how each period’s art changed throughout time. From the different shades of color to the different types of technique that filled the halls of the Oklahoma City Art Museum, each piece was genuine in its own way. I was starstruck as I witnessed Lowell Nesbitt’s Parrot Tulip, Richard Diebenkorn’s Albuquerque, and Dale Chihuly’s blown glass.
Ever since I was little the career that has sparked my interest and I want to pursue is veterinary. My father who loves animals has influenced me to be a veterinarian. We have always been close and he has inspired me to go higher in life. My one goal in life is to get my masters degree of veterinary medicine and have my own pet clinic. The university I want to attend and have gotten information about is UC Davis. UC Davis is known for having great majors and one of them is veterinary medicine.
In eastern Kentucky, there was a family known as the Fugate’s. The blue people all started with Martin Fugate, a French orphan who moved to Kentucky in the early 1800s. Martin and his wife had four children, all of them seemed to have the trait of the blue skin. The Fugate’s lived by Troublesome Creek and they were known as the “blue people.”
IKEA is an abbreviation of Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd. The initials come from the name of the founder, the farm where he grew up and his home parish. The firm has grown rapidly since it was founded in 1948. From a very young age, Kamprad started selling furniture and he always kept his low costs - so low that other furniture stores pressured the National Association of Furniture Dealers in Sweden to stop providing Kamprad with products. The first store of IKEA was opened in Almhult, Sweden. The next stores are in
The history of the company is very colorful and interesting. IKEA was founded in 1943 in the south of Sweden in Smaland. Its founder was seventeen - Ingvar Kamprad. The boy had a great deal of business, and IKEA was not his first venture. Previously, he was selling matches in his hometown. His capital for the establishment of IKEA comes from his father, who rewarded him for good academic performance. He called his company IKEA from the first letters of his name, and the names of the family farm and the village Agunnaryd Elmtaryd. The company initially dealt with the sale of feathers, frames, wallets, tablecloths, watches, jewelry, stockings and fine furniture. Kamprad to transport their goods, borrowed a truck from the local milkman.
For the purpose of this assignment, my group embers and I decided upon researching the pseudoscience of crystal healing. The idea, or practice of using crystals to better one’s life and wellbeing is not a necessarily new type of alternative medicine. In fact, instances of this practice have been found in many ancient civilizations throughout the world including places such as Greece and Egypt.
Social interaction and development is very important to how a living being develops and grows. Without it, [name withheld] wouldn’t be able to function as properly as she does now. Around the age of nine months, [name withheld]’s mother displayed emotions all in front of her. Her mother knew that she was always staring at her, as this is normal for babies to do. This is called social referencing; a process that infants use. It is wherein infants use the affective displays of an adult to regulate their behaviors toward environmental objects, persons, and situations. This provided an insight for her to get a sense of their new environment and the people and objects that form a part of it.
