I was taking an online journalism class 362, and an assignment was to pick a non-profit organization and write a biography of its chief executive officer. We were provided a list of various non-profits on web-campus, after reviewing the list I choose Girl Scouts, since I spent many years growing up as a girl scout. Instructor Espin indicated that this would be a very difficult non-profit, to look at a local non-profit. After reviewing the list again I then choose Three Square Food Bank, located in North Las Vegas. Instructor Espin thought this too might be difficult however; I had to get going so I stuck with Three Square. I had attempted to interview Brian Burton, president and CEO for Three Square. Mr. Burton did not respond so I contact
During my second week of my community health hours, I was placed at River City Food Bank. River City Food Bank’s main goal is to lessen hunger in the Sacramento region by offering healthy food and assistance to vulnerable populations. They do not only provide healthy food but they also provide nutrition education and counseling. In addition, they provide diapers for babies and the older population. They also provide health services for mothers and assist them with contraceptives and other important education for their women daily life. Their mission is to help people from all ages, from homeless to the working poor and families who are struggling.
I met with Maria Thompson and Mark Paxton from the Community Food Bank in regard to their site improvements. The Food Bank is requesting CSDC administer a contract with Avila Construction for their site improvements to San Felipe Rd frontage and parking lot improvement that access their building. The contract amount is $57,461.The Food Bank Board has approved the expense and repayment in full to CSDC if we choose to administer the contract. A repayment agreement between the Food Bank and CSDC would need to be drafted prior to approving any contract.
* With the statistics presented earlier on the percentage of families that are hungry but still have homes, it really touched me in the way that a hungry person could be someone that I know or care about.
It challenged my ideas of non-profits and got me to see the connections between bot for-profit and non-profits share that makes them successful. Robert did an excellent job showing connections and success stories while sharing his experiences, but he also didn't shy away from the ugliness allowing me to learn from some mistakes others have made. I agree with Roberts Vision , non-profits do need to be reformed and learn the think differently. I think that his equation Purpose = Profit is becoming more true everyday as we seem companies with a social aspect growing faster and outperforming the long standing companies. The final question I have for Robert is why he chose non-profit? DC central could have from the beginning been a for-profit restaurant with the same type training program and temporary employees but never had the issue of searching of regrants and had the luxury of expanding across the city or nation reaching even more people. This book was giving me more insight into the non-profit world than I every would have had on my own and I am looking forward to Robert being a panelist at Terp-Tank and hearing his insight into all our
During the time I spent volunteering at John C. Lincoln’s Food Bank, I was able to provide food, individual hygiene items, and infant supplies to families struggling to obtain these critical items for their families. When I first arrived at the food bank, I spent time constructing care packages with soap, toothbrushes, personal wipes, and other essential items for health care. Later in the day, I had the unique opportunity to assist with the simulated grocery store within the food bank. The structure of the store allowed individuals receiving food to feel as though they were actively participating instead of passively accepting food and feeling helpless. Overall, I was able to instill a sense of self-efficiency in individuals who were struggling to provide for their families while personally interacting and sharing my time in a meaningful way.
I had various choices to put to a charity of my choice and i have so many choices because of this new thing called the progressive era there are so many new social reforms it’s amazing it's like an amazing social justice fight , I don’t know how you got all this money i remember you being poor but whatever, anyways I chose a food safety charity for my 600,000 dollar donation, for my 300,000 dollar donation i chose a child labor charity, lastly I chose deforestation for my 100,000 dollar donation.
Nonprofit companies include American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and the Food Bank, just to name a few. An administrative assistant might organize functions such as planning a fund raiser or collecting donations on top of office tasks such as answering phone calls, planning meetings, recruiting, and training new workers or volunteers, and computer work. For example, an administrative assistant at the Food Bank may work the front desk answering phones and inputting volunteer hours on the computer while organizing the canned food drive for the upcoming holidays.
During my summer breaks I volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank. I do specific shifts such as labeling meat products and packaging them or storing food boxes with non perishables (food cans, cereal boxes) and boxing them for one family. I am a current member of Key Club, it also partnered with Second Harvest. Every Thursdays, I help out in Key Club by cleaning the campus and recycling to make the school more environmentally friendly. Outside of school, I attend Aktion Club and monthly car washes to help fundraise for DCON and grow relationships with people in our community that are disabled. There were occurrences where I had to take a role in setting up events like in the Diabetes and Breast Cancer Walk, I was responsible making every

The East Texas Food Bank is a nonprofit hunger relief organization based in Tyler, Texas. The East Texas Food Bank serves children, families and seniors through out network of Partner Agencies. Additionally, we target specific demographics such as children for our BackPack, Kids Cafe and Summer Food Programs. Seniors are targeted through our Senior Box Program. Needs for the community are assessed through a variety of surveys and data analysis. Some of this information is provided by the US Census, USDA and Feeding America. The subgroups that need

On August 4, 2015, Vivian Cu and I chose to volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank located on 700 Edwards Ave. in New Orleans. Our Tuesday morning of service started at 9AM and ended around 11:30AM. In preparation for my first time at Second Harvest, I wore comfortable clothes that were easy to move around in and that were possible to get dirty in. The man in charge of all volunteer services, Vince, quickly gave me my duty for the day. There is a huge case of canned goods and my job was to put as many canned goods as possible on a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt would carry these cans to many aisles where other volunteers would put them into smaller boxes that had to weigh from fifteen to thirty pounds. After packaging these boxes, Second
Gleaners uses essentially every social media platform to reach volunteers and donors. By just simply going on Gleaners’ website, one can see a link to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube, all of which use the same handles to ensure easy access: @GleanersFBIndy or Gleaner’s Food Bank of Indiana. Gleaners’ Facebook account has by far the most interactions topping out at just over 9,500 likes. Gleaners uses its Facebook primarily to post pictures of volunteers at its headquarters and at different events being held (Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Inc.). Twitter is their second most followed platform with a total of 3,900 followers (@GleanersFBIndy). The Twitter account has a slightly different feel than the Facebook account because it focuses more on talking to followers and thanking different people and organizations that volunteer with Gleaners. Instagram has a very similar feel as Twitter, in the sense that the posts are almost identical. Instagram, however, only has around 800 followers, which is surprising considering the presence on Twitter and Facebook (@gleanersfbindy). Gleaners also has accounts on Linked In, Pinterest, and YouTube, but its presence is very minimal and the posts are very infrequent. Overall, Gleaner’s has a presence in the social media world that is still growing but is becoming very successful.
