Three Days Food-Intake My daily diet should contain a balance of proteins, carbohydrates (carbs), and lipids (collectively called macronutrients). According to Kirby (2011), micronutrients are substances such as vitamins, and minerals that are essential for healthy growth and developments. The body only requires small quantities of micronutrients and without them serious problems can arise. The role of each micronutrient makes proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids equally important in my diet. Proteins are important for repair and tissue growth, helps the body to make enzymes and hormones, as well as preserve lean muscle mass and is a source of energy. Carbohydrates are the body main source of energy and are easily broken down into glucose …show more content…
The fiber would definitely help to promote better bowel health for me. My fat intake may have been on the mark if seasoning meat was added to the green beans when put into my iProfile food journal but I could not find the item that way on the list. In order to maintain proper health and weight, I need to ensure I eat well balance meals. Micronutrients My micronutrient fall in ranges from 0% to 86% and it is important that I get them into the recommended range because they provide the right amount of energy, promote growth and development, and regulate body functions. An adverse effect associated with macronutrients is that a nutritional deficiency disorder will result if not consumed in the recommended amounts and affect body function either more or less severely. Deficiency in protein cases are rare but when they do occur it result in what is called kwashiorkor which can be identified by changes in skin coloring, loss of muscle mass, diarrhea, fatigue, and inability to gain weight and grow, a large protruding stomach, swelling, rashes, apathy and irritability. Without enough carbohydrates, proteins will break down for fuel instead of muscle tissue and the body can go into ketosis that put stress on the kidneys. When a diet is low in fats, a deficiency in fat soluble vitamins can develop even when adequate
Carbohydrates, proteins and lipids are known as macronutrients as the body needs masses of these nutrient components in order to carry out the bodies’ essential functions.
An adult should follow the ratio consumption of: 60% carbohydrates, 30% fat, and 10% protein. All of these are essential macronutrients for adult bodies as they are a main source of energy. However, it is important to note that the ratios may vary from person to person due to physiological demands (1). Examples of sources of protein are milk, eggs, meat, fish, and nuts. Sources of healthy fat include avocados, peanuts, and soybeans. Carbohydrate sources derive from foods such as bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes.
With a newly developed understanding of Nutrition, diets with plenty of vegetables and whole grains will provide a great source of fiber. Furthermore,
Which foods in your recorded daily intake provide protein? Which provide carbohydrate? Which provide lipids?
For this three day diet analysis project I wanted to eat as I normally would and be honest about all that I ate, to analyze not only what and how much I was eating, but also to see how healthy my diet really is. By doing so I can see if any of my diet choices are putting me at risk for certain health diseases, and what changes can be made to make my diet healthier. After analyzing my diet, I would say I am fairly healthy, though I am out of the target range in a few areas. My profile calculated from my weight and height indicates that I have a BMI of 20.5. This is considered to be healthy; the healthy range is anywhere between 18.5-25. This was reassuring to hear because I am happy at my current weight, and
The DRI recommends that I consume a minimum of 25 grams of fiber daily. My current intake of dietary fiber falls short of meeting my recommended amount. Fiber is important in a healthy diet. It is beneficial in maintaining good digestive health and with prevention of diseases, including colon and rectal cancer. Adequate amounts of fiber also decrease the risk of heart disease by lowering the amount of LDL cholesterol within the blood.
Growing up I have always given my dad a hard time for his weight until about four years ago when he pulled out his wedding tux and I tried it on and could not fit in it. I am currently six foot four inches and weight approximately one hundred and fifty pounds so you can share my amazement when I found out that I couldn’t fit into my two hundred and fifty pound father’s tux. My dad got married when he was twenty two and I just turned twenty two, so I believe that it is about time to start being more a wear of what I eat. Being that I am currently underweight, I haven’t had to discipline myself when it comes to eating too much. My
Some of these lacking percentages may be a real deficiency and will call for my need of increasing them substantially. Vitamins A (RAE); E; and D, where A and E are nine percent and then D, which is slightly higher with thirteen percent need some major work and I will have to find ways to get these values at least higher than seventy percent. I will have to begin eating more carrots, egg yolk, broccoli, cantaloupe and drinking milk while doing so, to increase my vitamin A (RAE) percentage. For my vitamin E percentage, milk and egg yolk will help but I can also increase my whole-grain foods and eat some sunflower seeds and nuts to get it up where it needs to be. For my lacking vitamin D percentage I need to seriously increase my fatty fish intake—which is not difficult, due to my love of fish. Whole egg and beef liver will also both help in getting more vitamin D in my diet.
Macronutrients are an important part of your daily intake since they provide the body with calories and energy. These nutrients are needed for metabolism and growth of the body. The three macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, and fat (McKinley Health Center, 2008). It is important to that macronutrient intake be within the recommended intake range. Having a diet that consists of too much or too little of a macronutrient could be harmful to the body. If you eat too many macronutrients, you could gain fat and if you eat too little macronutrients you could lose healthy fat, which would cause the body to break down. If you consistently eat too little protein, carbohydrates, or lipids, the body would be malnourished, which could have devastating effects on your health.

According to my three day diet analysis it seems like my eating habits are poor. Not necessarily that I am consuming too many bad foods but I am not getting the all around nutrients that I need on a daily basis. Sometimes not eating enough. Or ot finding time to eat at all is a big issue in this. Due to my job and the lack of time I have at home it is hard for me to get the nutrients I need on a daily basis. With the target that is shown of six oz. of grains two and a half cups of vegetables, two cups of fruits, two cups of dairy and five and a half oz. of protein foods I fell short in most of the areas that were targeted for me. My biggest two areas of consumption was refined grains and protein.
Changes that I would make among my vegetables, fruits, meat and meat alternatives and grain choices to increase my fiber intake would be to eat whole fruits instead of drinking fruit juice,
Carbohydrates are loaded with vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, fiber, and above all - they give your body the energy it needs for exercise - and muscle repair and growth. Breads, rice, cereal and pasta compose the starch list you should be opting for on a daily basis. These complex carbs deliver glucose which is then circulated to your body's cells to provide energy. Fibers in the forms of fruits and vegetables should also be consumed on a daily basis in order to provide your body with anti-oxidants while promoting proper digestion, bone building, and cholesterol
The intake of nuts and legumes are good because they have fatty acids and proteins and proteins are a type of nutrient. Proteins help the body to grow and to repair tissues. They new food pyramid says that you should take in 0-2 servings of fish, poultry ,and eggs because all of these contain all the essential amino acids. Since amino acid is the monomer of proteins, this relates to protein. The body uses about 20kmds of amino acids to construct the protein it needs. Amino acids are essential for growth. Fish, poultry and eggs also contain Vitamin B so they are also essential for growth and the functioning of the eyes. The new food pyramid says that you should eat about 1-2 servings of daily products or calcium supplements. Since dairy products contain calcium and a little bit of phosphorus they are essential for the deposition in bones, the formation of ATP and nucleic acids and for the functioning of the heart muscles and nerves. You should limit your intake of red meat, butter, white rice, white bread, potatoes, pasta, and sweets to a ver low amount because if you take too much you can get diseases and disorders. But it is good to take some of these food because they also contain a little bit of Vitamin B which are essential for growth and the functioning of the nervous system. These food also can serve as fats which serve as a cushion for the food or a reserve energy supply.
“Let food be thy medicine.” - Hippocrates. Everything that people eat affects them in a certain way. The American diet has seen some insane changes over time and has caused more issues now than it has ever done before. There has been many studies that show that people’s diets have connections with diseases and people should know about this.
