Thesis and Introduction
The "Buy American, Hire American" order ordered federal agencies to reform the H-1B visa program, which is to bring high-skilled workers to the United States. According to the White House, 80 percent of approved H-1B visa applications were for "the two lowest wage levels allowed." White House officials said that meant replacing American workers with lower-paid foreign workers. My thoughts is as followed through in my research for the recruiting process.
The H-1B visa program is not huge in Alaska, at least compared to the J-1 visa that employs foreigners in hospitality during the summer season. However, used by a wide variety of employers to bring in everyone from academics to oil workers. Trump's order signaled that he wants to cut out the practice of hiring skilled foreign workers when an American would do, particularly in jobs on the lower-wage end of the spectrum.

All laws, which require or provide a preference for the purchase of goods, products, or materials produced in the United States, are subject to a review. The Order requires agencies to complete the assessment of their “Buy American” practices within 150 days with a report will be submitted to the President 70 days after that, which will include recommendations on how to strengthen carrying out the “Buy American” laws. Given the idea of “Buy American” subject to wholesale review, these agencies have a challenging task ahead of
“Buy American” creates a huge political payoffs for the officially elected officers who protect job in domestic industry. Research shows for every job protected and saved, about two jobs are lost. For instance: In 2009 Canadian Representatives who were cons or upset of “Buy American” voted for “Buy Canadian” that would block American companies from bidding on contracts. The result will be loss of trading partner, and of course loss of American Jobs.
In the article Making it in America Adam Davidson takes time to interview different employees at Standard Motor Products to determine how it is treating them and how factories are changing in time. Adam is receiving a tour of the plant by manager Tony Scalzitti where he sees many factory workers in blue lab coats, hair nets, and protective eyewear. This is where Adam first runs into Madelyn Parlier.
USCIS administers the EB-5 Program. Under this program, entrepreneurs (and their spouses and unmarried children under 21) are eligible to apply for a green card (permanent residence) if they make the necessary investment in a commercial enterprise in the United States. This program is known as EB-5 for the name of the employment-based fifth preference visa that participants receive.
Among the various areas immigrant activity might impact, economic activity and work force are the most deliberated nowadays. The main issue is that most of the data and literature available only focuses at the general effects of the immigrants’ presence in the economy. What role they play in the growth of the or the impact on the native-born Americans are left undebated. In this sense, with the raising numbers of international students, refugees and expatriates the question of whether immigrants bring negative effects on the native-born American work force becomes undeniable.
If you ever question whether American made matters, consider the way that the U.S. automotive industry has devolved. At one time, American auto makers led the world in their sector. Today, jobs that were formerly held by Americans have been outsourced to workers in other countries. In order to inject new life to the Middle Class and level the playing field once again, we must insist on the availability of American made products. Our buying decisions could make all the difference for Americans now and in the future.
“The land of the free and the home of the brave” these are people's first thoughts when they think about coming to America. Many come to america to make their dreams a reality or for many reasons as to have a better life for their kids, or the generation that come. Like the colonial immigrants, the 1800s immigrants, and the modern immigrant. All of them have reasons why they came to america or persuade their dreams. How they look at america they all have a way of looking at america different but they all have a dream in america. What is really most people dream in America?
In recent headlines, the H-1B visa has come become a debatable topic. The number of visas distributed to skilled workers (H-1B) and who receives them, and whether the United States should increase or decrease the amount. Currently, the H-1B visa system is structure to administer 65,000 H-1B visas (Services, H-1B Fiscal Years (FY) 2014 Cap Season). According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration, 124,000 petitions were received during the 2013 fiscal year. (Services, H-1B Fiscal Years (FY) 2014 Cap Season). Some are suggesting that we need more skilled immigrant labor within our country for innovative and entrepreneurial exploration, while others are opposed to such a change and would prefer a decrease in the number of
People say that coming to the United State would be a dream come true. I was born on September 21, 1998 in Thailand. I thought coming to America, my life will change to better rather than working so hard everyday and night at the farm to get just enough rice for the family. Even in the United State, my parent’s had to starve just so we can eat.
Everyone tries to achieve the American dream, which is the opportunity for prosperity, success and upward mobility. For a lot of people, they get nowhere near their American dream because they are struggling trying to make a living. Lots of people are losing their jobs due to outsourcing which leads to people not attaining their goals of being in the higher class or even middle class status. So, what exactly is outsourcing? Outsourcing “occurs when an organization transfers some of its tasks to an outside supplier” (Gnuschke 1). In other terms, outsourcing is when a company shifts its business to a different country to produce goods and services at a much cheaper rate. A lot of people argue that outsourcing is bad for America while some people believe that outsourcing is actually beneficial for America. While outsourcing causes goods to price drop in America, outsourcing causes a lot of jobs to be lost which can cause an
The exporting of American jobs is an issue that is important and will become increasingly so as more and more white collar jobs are shipped overseas. American companies in the past few decades have been sending American jobs overseas paying residents of other countries pennies on the dollar what they had paid American workers to do. This saves the companies millions of dollars on labor costs but costs Americans precious jobs.
In the United States of America there are an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants currently residing in the U.S. Many industries depend heavily on immigrant labor , legal and illegal, to achieve productivity. The construction industry, nationally , employ at a fast rate about 1,000,000 illegal immigrants; almost one in five illegal immigrants work major industries. (Passel,2006). Immigrant reform will undoubtedly reduce the supply of illegal immigrant by encouraging enforcement of current laws by creating new legislation with harsher penalties for illegal immigration. The enforcement of the new laws will allow for industries to allow employers to recruit and hire foreign born workers only with signs of identification. However for the industries
The H-1B program grants temporary work visas to workers in specialty occupations, most commonly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Firms must pay substantial fees to apply for a worker, and the worker is tied to the firm for the length of their visa (the initial length being three years). Law requires that H-1B workers be paid the prevailing wage for the job in the firm or the geographic region where the person is employed as to discourage worker
The modern day American society hosts a broad spectrum of industries with various occupations and professions to engage today’s workforce. America, much like most first world countries is a service economy based on the exchange of knowledge and expertise rather than materials and products. People have a long history of work and work evolution that has ultimately brought America to a service economy producing both strengths and weaknesses within the society and its economy. As America has moved to a service economy, much of the manufacturing and production jobs have moved oversees to third world countries creating a reliance on other economies. This globalization of the workforce as well as unionization, and the
Here in the Rio Grande Valley immigration has become the hit. An immigrant in my own words is someone from a different country that travels to an alternative country permanently for a better life. I belief they are many unlike reasons why people live in their country but cross to another country. Actually, I’m not in immigrant, I’m a US citizen but I have experienced many stories and seen families struggle from this situation. Nevertheless, to my own experience, some people move to the US to find better jobs, but some move to different counties to look forward not only to better their education but their children’s as well. In this research paper I will be pointing out the important factors and expectations of illegal immigrants in the US,
Downsizing, restructuring, rightsizing, even a term as obscure as census readjustment has been used to describe the plague that has been affecting corporate America for years and has left many of its hardest working employees without work. In the year 2001 we had nearly 1.8 million jub cuts, that’s almost three times as much as the year 2000(Matthew Benz). In the 1990's, one million managers of American corporations with salaries over $40,000 also lost their jobs. In total, Fortune 500 companies have eliminated 4.4 million positions since 1979 including the 65,000 positions cut in February of 2002 (Ellen Florian). Although this downsizing of companies can have many reasons behind it and cannot be
