It began in 1861 and would end in 1865. The Civil war was America’s Bloodiest sectional war, more than 620,000 people died and many more citizens were injured. Conflict began in the United States between the north and the south. The North was considered the Union and the South was considered the Confederate. Once Lincoln was elected and pledged to keep states free of slavery, states from the south began to secede from the United states and form their own nation. Although the North refused to see The Confederate States of America as legitimate it did not put a stop to the southern states' secession or prevent conflicts that occurred between the states. The Civil War was known as most violent and inevitable war in American History. The North and South had contrarying values which caused a massive shift in the country resulting in eleven states to exit the union. A popular belief is that the Civil War only occurred because the South wanted to keep slavery. Although that is not entirely wrong, conflicts between the North and the South did revolve around slavery. However, the crucial events that worsen the division between the North and the South were the western expansion, revoking the Missouri Compromise, and states' rights that open up to the Civil War.

The Confederates believed that the new president would change the Federal view on slavery. John Crittenden had made a proposal to divide the United States at the 36° longitude line, and the North of the line would be slavery free and the South would be anything goes. The Civil War was a disaster in so many different ways. The War was the bloodiest war in the history of America. Also, the idea of fighting your family members or friends is a gruesome thought to think about at the time. The goal of the South in the war was to defend their base and keep the North out. The job of the North was the total opposite because the soldiers had to intrude there area because they were the ones that were trying to keep the South from Seceding.

The North had more factories and railroads, while the South had more farms. Politics had a strong part to play too. The North had a better government, while the South struggled to form one. There was just too much building for so long in so many different areas within our nation that this looming eruption into civil war was a forgone conclusion. Slavery is seen as the main factor and many just give that as a single word answer for why war broke out between the north and south states, as seen in the Simpsons video we watched in class.

Even a little of these matters could be infelicitous, yet the Civil War was copious of them. However, it was not only during this disastrous war that things took a new path. At what one might call the climax of the bloodiest war in American history, there were two men who had a bond that was much stronger than this all-consuming war. These men had enough faith in each other and in themselves to help them through the war. Both men were fighting for what they solely believed in and even with their different opinions, they still had each other’s back when they didn’t have each other. The American Civil War, the most terrifying and horrific war fought in America. In the 1860 presidential election Republicans were led by Abraham Lincoln who did not support slavery at all. even though he had slaves, he did not like it and he opposed the expansion of slavery in the US territories. The problem was that the seven slave states with cotton-based economics needed their slaves to keep their economy up and running, so they formed the Confederacy. These first 7 states to secede had a 48.8% population of slaves. President James Buchanan and the Republicans rejected secession as illegal. The remaining 8 slave states rejected the call for secession. A peace conference was arranged but failed to find a compromise and both sides prepared for war. The South was very angry with the north because they felt as if they were taking away their state rights, The Southern Position that citizens of every states did have the right to take their property anywhere in the U.S. and not have it taken away. Specifically their slaves. But Northerners rejected this right because it would violate the right of a free state. This did not make the South happy, and for the North taking away their rights and trying to end slavery, the Confederate was formed and this is what started the deadly war.
