The World Of The Holocaust

The Jewish Holocaust was a traumatic event that took place from the early 1930s to the mid 1940s. During the Holocaust, the Germans believed that they had racial authority among other civilians. Under the rule of Adolf Hitler, the NAZIs targeted Jews and other groups due to their perceived "racial inferiority". For instance, they persecuted Jews, Gypsies, Elderly, Mentally Disabled, and Homosexuals (etc.) because they believed that they did not portray the behavior of the so-called “social norms”. They were sent to concentration camps and killing camps, to be starved or even beaten to death. This was the cause of death of approximately 6,000,000 Jews. There are so many remarkable people who have gone before us and shaped the world into what it is today. With the passing of yet another Veterans Day, people were reminded of the extraordinary sacrifices made by ordinary men and women who were unfortunate enough to have lived during times when their nations were at war. Many ordinary citizens lost their lives as a result of the war, just as soldiers did. While some survivors simply lived out their post war lives, others survived and influenced the world. One person who survived the atrocities of the Holocaust during World War II and used his experiences to improve social, political, and religious conditions throughout the world, is Elie Wiesel. Through the words of Elie Wiesel, the public can witness the evils of war, keep these memories alive in the collective recall of future generations, and take action upon witnessing injustices of its kind.

17.5.1. The War’s Aftermath Hitler had promised in 1933 that in ten years one would not be able to recognize Germany. This came true, but in a negative way. Though the Allies were aware of the Nazi concentration camps during the war, it was only at the end of the war the whole story of the horror of the Holocaust was discovered. American General Eisenhower visited the death camps personally to see the extent of Nazi brutality.

As we grow up our parents teach us how to be respectful and very well-mannered. They enforce the importance of saying, “Please, thank you, and excuse me,” when needed. Parents also insist we listen and respect our elders, because they have authority over the world since they have been here the longest. We were raised to comply with the demand of someone who had authority over us. According to Patricia Werhane (1), “In the early1960’s Stanley Milgram undertook his noteworthy study of human obedience to authority. Puzzled by the question of how otherwise decent people could knowingly contribute to the massive genocide of the Holocaust during World War II, Milgram designed an experiment that sought to cause a conflict between one’s willingness to obey authority and one’s personal conscience.”

While examining the works of Elie Wiesel and Primo Levi it becomes apparent that the holocaust was a horrendous time in our human history. However, although both writers went through similar experiences during this time; both seem to reflect and dwell on things differently such as their point of view and lives in the camps as well as the different themes they focus on. In this analysis the stories of the two authors will be compared and as stated above will also focus on how they recount their experiences.

I chose this topic because it is the most interesting topic I have ever learned in school. Some people do not know the whole story of the Holocaust, they only know of bits and pieces. Most people know that Hitler rose to command and had a strong dislike of specific groups of people, which consequently began the Holocaust. The Holocaust changed the whole world’s perspective. Our fellow human were tortured, starved, and burned alive for being different from society. I wrote this essay to show that there is always another side to a story. Now I give you “The Holocaust Revealed”.

When people elevate to the status of citizen in their respective country, it’s surely a momentous occasion. However, once the title of citizen is acquired there are certain responsibilities that must be fulfilled. Tim Holden said "The Holocaust illustrates the consequences of prejudice, racism and stereotyping on a society. It forces us to examine the responsibilities of citizenship and confront the powerful ramifications of indifference and inaction"(Holden). Holden’s quote has a specific point that is incredibly important which is confronting the consequences of inaction. Anger and revulsion can arise from a variety of epicenters, but one that undoubtedly protrudes is Adolf Hitler throughout World War II. Inaction can be a godsend, but definitely has a dangerous side which held true during the Holocaust and still holds true today.

World War 2 brought upon a time of disappointment and the Jewish purgatory. This event caused millions of death to innocent people and disgrace to many Jewish families. This time period was ruled by the powerful leader of the Nazis as they were know for. He was the chancellor of Germany, he was Adolf Hitler he was known as the greatest leader to all the Nazi’s party. Hitler came into power in the year of 1933. This Nazi’s party planned to exterminate all the Jewish. This event was called the “Final Solution” also known as the holocaust. The Holocaust was created to operate massive killing along with, death camps, concentration camps, resistance efforts, Warsaw-ghetto, and liberation. Disheartening is not even a word tragic even to describe the Holocaust. The Holocaust affected the lives of millions because of the hate inside of the Nazi’s. Why would the Nazi’s do this? This is a question almost nobody can answer. What we do know are the effects of the Holocaust; specifically, on the child survivors of the Holocaust. The Holocaust created a struggle with interpersonal relationships, psychological difficulties, and caused child survivors and their families have a drive for resilience. Most people could say the Holocaust bring feelings of empathy for the casualty who went this tragic event, and feel anger toward the extremist.

The Holocaust was the systematic, organized, frighten, vicious event that sponsored by Nazi Party throughout the Europe continent that approximately took away six million Jews’ life with assisted from Nazi Germany and its collaborators, the event also caused different extent of casualties to contemporary third party countries in the Europe simultaneously. The official beginning date of event started from January 1933 when Adolf Hitler first came to power in Germany with Nazi as his backup to openly addressed the conspiracy of Jews within Germany boundary by classified all the Jews as inferior that should be fully eliminate due to the Adolf Hitler circulated the misconception of Jews’ existence had created threaten to the central power of government within the German domestic which carried out the massive killing events later on in entire Europe continent from 1933 to 1946.

The holocaust began in 1933. Adolf Hitler was a man who wanted great power and to do so he put others below him, making them a “lesser” kind of human than what he was. In 1933 approximately nine million Jews lived in the 21 countries of Europe that later on would be surrounded with SS soldiers. In this tragic event, many people were killed and used for experiments. Not just Jews, but also homosexuals, disabled people, people that were ill and Catholics.

From the terrorist attack on Paris, to the natural disasters in Haiti; there have been a variety of tragic events that have occurred throughout history across the world. Perhaps one main tragedy that leaves people feeling baffled is the Holocaust. Eric Lichtblau described the Holocaust in his article, The Holocaust Just Got More Shocking, as a genocide in which Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany and its associates killed around six million Jewish people because the Nazis believed that exterminating the Jewish people was justified. They believed this for the reason that Jewish people were not only a “low” and “evil” race, but were affecting the lives of the Germans negatively and blamed them for all the social and economic problems in Germany (Lichtblau). The puzzling part is what would make an authoritative figure, such as Adolf Hitler; do such an atrocious thing to a group of people? Social psychologist Stanley Milgram’s experiment on obedience to authority in 1963 analyzed what makes people obey orders. Milgram’s experiment found that factors such as the authority figure, the use of deception and the agentic state of the person can further explain why people obeyed Hitler to the point that induced the Holocaust.

Since the beginning of civilization, man has attempted to rule, belittle, and destroy other men. One of the most appalling and prolific examples of this is the genocide know as the Holocaust. All over the world religions usually teach that all of civilization is equal and that we should all be cordial with each other, but monstrosities like Adolf Hitler broke those sacred laws. The Holocaust was a time period where a set of people were persecuted. While they were being persecuted World War Two was used as a smokescreen to conceal the horrors of the Holocaust. What lead to the Holocaust was Nazi ideology. Nazi ideology lead to the deaths of millions,and the ones that survived were left with permanent physical and mental scars. One person that was forever scarred for life was Gerda Weissman Klein.She was born in Bielsko, Poland, a town known for its textile industry. During the Holocaust, she was sent to Gross-Rosen camp system where she was treated like a slave and often told she was nothing. All the while she remained strong and not worthless, contradicting Hitler’s views.

Albert Einstein once said: “This world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, because of the people who don 't do anything about it.” This means that all people are responsible for what happens in this world on some level. Events such as the Holocaust occurred because many remained silent. Many lives were lost during the Holocaust during the intense years of 1933-1945. The Holocaust took place in Germany, the home of the Nazi regime. The Nazi’s were led by Adolf Hitler, the appointed Chancellor. His overall goal while in power was “The Final Solution.” Making this time a shameful and depressing part of the world’s history. As described throughout the book Night by Elie Wiesel, in the beginning, human rights were violated and taken away by the Nuremberg Laws. This led to the “undesirables” being stripped of their identity with the help of concentration camps, resulting in major physical changes.
