According to Miller, a professor at Harvard University and an officer of American Embassy in Ankara, the relics of the Saint at Myra church were taken over by some Italian merchants, who were on a trading expedition to the Near East in 1087 A.D. (51). The Italian brought his bones from Myra to Bari, where a church of St. Nicholas was built (Miller 51). The church is still run and has become the center of the veneration of the Saint. In the time of the relocation of his relics, St. Nicholas became famous and was widely acknowledged as one of the most popular saints in the Western (Miller 51). He was honored as the chief patron saint of Russia, Greece, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily. He
The St Marys Saints caused a minor upset when they toppled the Peninsula Seagulls 38-22 in the Sydney Shield second Qualifying Final at Campbelltown Stadium last Sunday.
One of the reasons Nicholas was overthrown relates to the social grievances Russia faced. In the time of his reign, Nicholas II presided over a society still entrenched in a feudalistic social structure, a system long outdated compared to other European nations. Source B illustrates this hierarchy, with the Tsar at the top followed by the gentry, the bourgeoisie, the proletariat and lastly the peasants. The peasants were by far the biggest social group, making up 80% of the population. Even though they were the largest group, they shared a very small amount of the society’s wealth.
March 25th, 1347 Saint Catherine was born in Italy. St Catherine is the patron of firefighters, illness, miscarriages, nurses and sick people. During her life, St Catherine herself suffered illness' leading her to be the patron as apparent. At the age of 16, St Catherine had previously disregarded marriage, as she envisioned mystical experiences seeing guardian angels, transforming her into a brilliant minded young woman even though she was not supported with formal education.

Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus in Rome represents reflects the transformed status of Christianity. Junius Bassus was a member of a senatorial family and he was responsible for the administration of the city of Rome. Junius Bassus died at the age of 42 in the year 359, this sarcophagus was made for him. He had become a convert to Christianity before his death.
“‘You have no passion. You are not going to make it… I can say to you that the state championship is a month and a day away…”’ (Wojnarowski 227). This what Coach Bob Hurley said to his somewhat deflated St. Anthony Friars in The Miracle of St. Anthony. The Friars were undefeated at this point in the season but there seemed to be a lack of energy in the team with the New Jersey State Championship looming. Because of this, Hurley would give a speech that would bring the team back together for an undefeated championship season. I could relate to this because this summer my sailing team was in a similar situation with the Maine State Championship Regatta just a few weeks a away. My coach gave a very similar speech to Hurley’s which also brought our team together. As a result the team did very well in the state championship.
Nicholas the Second was a large contributing cause to his own abdication. Nicholas the Second continued to make countless amounts of unreasonable decisions throughout his reign. His bad decisions drove many of his original supporters away. For example, even on the day of his coronation he managed to start off his reign on a bad foot. This was due to the fact that when many celebratory mugs were being gifted to the people of St Petersburg to celebrate the coronation of the Tsar there was not enough to go around and in an effort to acquire one of these limited mugs many citizens were brutally killed. In the interim, Nicholas showed no consideration or sympathy towards the dead or those affected and continued with the coronation. Consequently
During the 1790s, a black evangelist named Harry Hoosier drew thousands of converts across the South with his dramatic retellings of Biblical stories. A black Virginia Baptist preacher named John Jasper became legendary for his ability to string "together picture after picture." Black preachers' use of repetition, humor, striking metaphors, and a stress on the human Jesus transformed American preaching
After much thought about what I would want to for my volunteer project, I finally settled on the “Feed the Homeless” campaign organized by the Southwest Rotary Club of Las Vegas. This experience allowed me to work with the fantastic organization, Rotary International, and has given me the opportunity to better myself, both personally and professionally, through working with great people and overcoming the challenges presented to me.
In Lasallian schools the core principle of concern for the poor and social justice invites students and staff to be in solidarity with the poor and advocate for those suffering injustices. This means that people should have awareness of the poor and those who are victims of injustices and respond to their needs by means of community service and advocacy. This core principle is illustrated in the novella, “Saint Emmanuel the Good, Martyr” by Miguel de Unamuno. The main character, Don Emmanuel is the parson of the city of Valverde. The congregation of this parish look up to Don Emmanuel, admire him, and are overtaken by his words in mass. However, the narrator reveals that Don Emmanuel was not a man of faith. “Metamorphosis” by Kafka, presents a story of a young man who one day wakes up and is transformed into a bug. As a result of this transformation, he is mistreated by his family and considered useless in society. In the case of Saint Emmanuel the Good Martyr, there is a character that does not believe in God, yet practices concern for the poor and social justice on a daily basis. On the other hand, we have a character that yearns what Don Emmanuel gives to the citizens in Valverde, care and concern.
Nicholas’ time filled with wonderful works as the Bishop of Myra is what he is remembered and loved for. He performed many courageous deeds and won the hearts and devotions of many. He often solved great issues for the people such as once when there was a Famine and he miraculously provided for the people. This was done when he asked sailors with ships full of wheat to each give some wheat so that the people would have food but the sailors said they had to have the same measurements of wheat when they arrived at their final destination. To this St. Nicholas promised them, "Do this, and I promise, in the truth of God, that it shall not be lessened or diminished when you get to your destination." (6) Supposedly what he said came true and the sailors had the right amount of wheat even though they had given enough to feed the people of Myra during the famine. Because of this feat many people glorified God because Bishop Nicholas praised God. Another memorable occurrence was when Bishop Nicholas went with many other Bishops to a meeting to debate the nature of the Holy Trinity. One Bishop named Arias believed that Jesus wasn’t equal to God and this offended Nicholas and his beliefs so much that in one account he slapped him in the face which caused him to be jailed and removed from his position as Bishop. However, it is said that Jesus and Mary appeared to him in prison bringing the Bible and the Bishop’s robes which caused him to be made Bishop again. The Bishop Nicholas
St. Theodore was a hymnographer, theologian, as well as the leader of the Stoudios Monastery in Constantinople, which historically is known as the most important monastery of Constantinople. The residents of the monastery were called Stoudites, or Studites. He is also known for writing monastery reform rules, which is recorded as the first stand against slavery. Theodore revived classical literature in Byzantium and Byzantine monasticism. Not only is he known for these accomplishments, Theodore was also distinguished by his opposition to the unfaithful marriage of the emperor Constantine and was later exiled for his stand against adultery. Moreover, Theodore’s courage to take a stand against wrongful behaviour is what we want the students at
In the book, The Proslogion, written by Saint Anselm, we find the Ontological Argument. This argument made by Saint Anselm gives us proofs that he believes helps prove the existence of God. Anselm gives many reasons as to why the simple understanding of God can help prove that God himself exists, as well as mentioning how the idea of God cannot be thought not to exist. Though this argument has been looked at by people such as Guanilo, a monk, whose response to Anselm 's proofs was trying to say that there were flaws, there are more reasons as to why Anselm 's proofs work well with his argument. From the understanding of God existing, and the idea behind greatness Anselm 's argument is one that is strong and can work as a proof when trying
My personal ability to maintain “a well-being” while engaged in coaching is to continue to remind myself why I am doing this job and why it is important. Like the passion and the love, I have for the sports and the goals that I set for my athletes that I will be coaching in the future. I will also do a monthly check in with myself and what I can do to better my coaching technique and skills. I will also do a survey with my athletes this will help me to see on areas I need to work on and improve.
In today’s society, media is displayed throughout all over the internet and the way it is presented is not always honest towards the public. Authors like Cass Sunstein, Diana Mutz, and Alexis De Tueville all incorporate factual evidence onto how media is spread due to outside information which is distributed towards the democratic process. One involvement with the media was Russian involvement during the 2016 Presidential Election.
