As India is a developing country and the status of English is second language the teaching of English has become a real challenge right from the beginning of the history of English language teaching till date and the teachers have been introducing new methodologies and the trends kept changing. Due to the association with the British, English started in India with the status of foreign language and much hated language. Today it has become a status symbol for the upper class. In the 20th century English language started emerging as a global language and the Indian classroom environment also changed based on the needs of the learner.Through this paper I would like to discuss the various trends in language learning. In the book Just Mercy, Walter McMillian was an African American who was falsely convicted and sent to death row for the murder of Ronda Morrison. Walter spent six years on death row terrorized, fearing for the day he would inevitably die. However, Walter was freed from death row after six years, finally being a free man once again. However, this does not mean that Walter finally received justice. After Walter was free he was diagnosed with dementia, a disease that tragically ended his life early, Walter also received a miniscule amount of compensation for the time he spent on death row, and he had no help dealing with the traumas from being on death row.
Edgar Allan Poe and Alfred Hitchcock both use suspense and fear in their pieces of work. The audience can see the way Edgar Allan Poe uses suspense in his pieces, “The Raven” and in “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and how Alfred Hitchcock uses similar techniques in his piece, Rear Window. These three pieces of work show how Edgar Allan Poe and Alfred Hitchcock are able to use and set up different aspects to create suspense and fear throughout their stories. In both Hitchcock’s and Poe’s pieces one can see the aspects that they use to create suspense are very similar. Both Hitchcock and Poe use a single character’s point of view, detailed settings, and isolation to create this sense of suspense throughout the story.
A common controversial topic that is discussed universally is the issue of shootings and gun use. English has undergone some changes in relation to its status in the world. Some years ago, it only became the first or second language for several countries. Nowadays, alongside with the development of information, communication, and technology the status of English becomes a lingua franca in the world. That is, a language that is used as a means of communication between people with different language. This change, of course, brings some impacts in the roles of English as a language. English is not seen as a language for identity anymore. Yet, it functions mainly as a means of communication. From my observations, the first weak point of the textbook English 6 is lacking of information about the authors' formal education, experience in teaching, administration, curriculum and materials development experience. Undoubtedly, it is a main factor which shows a vivid picture of the authors having a recognized standing in the field of education and a good reputation for producing innovative and efficient materials. For instance, on the contrary, publishers often attach the authors’ views on language, methodology or teaching and learning theories. However, the textbook English 6 does not present things mentioned above.
