The Song Praying Poem Analysis

​The song “Unanswered Prayers” speaks to how everything led up to this moment. The song talks about a man who prayed in high school for a women to love him, but now years later is married to someone else and happy that God didn’t answer his high school prayers. The lyrics at one point say “Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers, remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs, that just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care, some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers,” this speaks to my relationship with Tyson, because I can remember in high school praying that my best friend would look my way. All throughout Bon Jovi’s song “Livin’ on a Prayer” it shows a tone of being depressed and having hope. They shows this throughout the song to say having someone to lean on, in rough times, can help you get through them. This is most prevalent when he sings “Take my hand, we'll make it I swear” and “Baby it’s okay, someday”. Bon Jovi uses terms like metaphor, personification, irony and even connotation to show a tone of depression and hopefulness.

In the opening lines she asks, “Who are you trying to impress when you pray?” Are you praying for the poor and the dying? The image painted with these lyrics is of someone that is dysphoric, someone whose life has lost meaning and they have fallen into the deepest state of sorrowfulness. Chloe’s voice plays the most vital role on this song, it is soft enough to be heard and at the same time it also soft enough to stealthily attack you with the horror of what is going on in the lyrics. The vocals are well timed to compliment the lyrics in such a way that she knows when to lay them back, when to elevate them and how to regulate her tone to give you are tonic effect that impressively blends the lyrics with the instruments on the song.

Richard Blanco is a Cuban- American poet who was given the oppurunity to write an inaugaration poem for Barack Obama's second swearing-in. He wrote a poem titled "One Today" that praised the good and unique things about the United States and also the everyday people who's daily routines help to make America the proud country that it is.

I am relating this song to the misuses of power and influence found in chapter twelve. Chapter twelve specifically contains information about sexual harassment and different types of bullying. Kesha’s song, “Praying,” expresses abuse

There’s a song by Frank Ocean where he captures an aspect of religion that I have always found to be incogitable. He sings, “..This unrequited love To me it’s nothing but a one-man cult... I can never make him love me...” Ocean is talking about the idea that this unreturned love, when internalized can be built up. He compares religion to a cult, filled with people who mindlessly follow a figure, in this case God, who represents the answers to all their questions. When I look around the world and see the Churches and Mosques dedicated to these Gods I am in awe of the sense of faith that so many have.

Among The Thirsty is a contemporary Christian rock band that is breaking barriers in the music industry. Band members Ryan Daniel, Scottie Henderson, Brock Douglas, and Gregory Smith all have the same purpose in mind: to present the Gospel to the world. "We have songs for the church as well as the for the hurting, seeking and lost, our desire is to eradicate the line between Christian and secular music" says Ryan Daniel, in a interview with KLOVE. The general message in “Completely” is to keep your heart open for god, never keep anything from him, for he is all knowing and all forgiving. Its shown in the song, by telling a story about someone falling; needing christ to help him stand tall again, and how to find the path to him again.

Poetry can be divided up into different forms, more easily expressing an author’s emotions and intent with their poetry. For analyzing purposes I chose the poems Self-Help by Michael Ryan, Ghazal by Agha Shahid Ali, Psalm 150 by Jericho Brown, and Emergency by Michael Dylan Welch.

In her latest album named Prism Katy showed her fan’s that’s she is just like the rest of us. The album goes to describe her dark struggles with her divorce. How she felt so down at one point, that she felt like she didn’t want to be a part of this world anymore. This inspired many seeing this side of Katy, many felt her pain through the songs and others related to it. This Album caught the eye of many because she let those who listen understand that she is also human too, that just because she is constantly on the spotlight doesn’t mean she doesn’t feels just like we do. The song “Believer”, by Imagine Dragons, they sing about how the pain and depression, they were going through, has made him stronger than before. This song tells us that your greatest strengths come from your weaknesses. Imagine Dragons are trying too say that “Pain” and depression and sadness are only stepping stones to your strength, in this song. “Believer” is about that you don’t have to dwell on your troubles and can look on the bright side of things. This song also explains that you can become a “Believer” by embracing all of the problems going on in your life today. The theme of relationships in this song is highlighted through many various examples of similes, metaphors, and other literary devices throughout the song.

Her beliefs helped because she decided the only way to make it past was to believe this is God's plan. On line 14 she says “I blest his name that gave and took” she means she blest Gods name when he gave her and blessed her with those things and took them. Also on line 17 she says “It was his, it was not mine” she means it was God's not her belongings.
