The Sniper Suspense Analysis

A similar theme was developed between The Sniper and Ambush. The Sniper’s theme is Stay Focused, What has happened… Happened. Ambush’s theme is Don’t Dwell on the Past.

The opening scene of the movie American Sniper, “which tells the story of Chris Kyle, a Navy SEAL who shot his way to 160 confirmed kills in Iraq,” (Buckley) starts out when Chris Kyle was just a child and him and his father are out in the forest shooting deer and him beating up a bully who was picking on his little brother at school. Later on into Kyle 's young adulthood he made a decision to quit being a cowboy rodeo star and instead enlist with the Navy SEALS in 1998. During this time Kyle meets his future wife. Then, once after the trauma of 9/11, the war in Iraq puts Kyle to work as a sharpshooter, and the film shows his skills as frightening and strange. From this point, the arc of the film essentially follows Kyle across his missions as a sniper. An important element of the plot is his face-off with an enemy sniper Mustafa, A Syrian sniper who was a former Olympian rifleman, who Kyle does manage to take out near the end of the film. Kyle was shot and killed later on by a veteran who he was actually trying to help. Even though every Iraq citizen isn 't a terrorist, American Sniper should be known for its stereotypes against race because the invisible norm of the white dominant culture and the display of the male body, white males in particular. Also to add to that the movie is showing the masculine spectacle and its collapse by portraying Iraq and how all they want to do is kill Americans.

In the short story, “The Sniper,” author Adam O’ Flaherty includes the element of surprise to reveal that war causes not only physical risk, but also psychological sufferings. This is true because of many reasons according to the story. Flaherty uses surprise and the element of suspense to show how war affects those involved. In the story, there is a Civil War taking place in Ireland. The war is between the Republicans and the Free Starters.

There are many ways to compare the sniper and Ty Johnson . Ty Johnson from 6street pharm and the sniper are inventive because they came up with ways to stay alive and cheat death. Ty Johnson is any ordinary hustler. One way Ty was inventive was he came up with a plan to get another hustler off of his turf. ”let's go over the plan.

Every good story has some part where it gets suspenseful. In the stories, “The Most Dangerous Game,” “Liberty,” and “Harrison Bergeron” there were situations of intense suspense. In “The Most Dangerous Game,” an example of suspense is when Rainsford was noticed by Zaroff while he was laying on the branch. “The general’s eyes had left the ground and were traveling inch by inch up the tree. Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring. But the sharp eyes of the hunter stopped before they reached the limb where Rainsford lay; a smile spread over his brown face.” That was a suspenseful situation because Zaroff easily found Rainsford, and just smiled before leaving him unharmed. In “Liberty” an example of suspense is when the narrator was taking Liberty to her cage, and strange men tried stealing Liberty and kidnapping the narrator. “Two strange men in dark glasses were crouched behind the hedge. The fat one had seized Liberty by the collar and was pulling so hard on it that poor Liberty was almost standing on his hind legs.” That was a suspenseful situation because two strangers tried kidnapping the narrator it wouldn’t have ended so well, because they could have used her to scare her family into

U.S. Navy SEAL ,Chris Kyle was just the average die hard Texan. He aspired to become a cowboy, but it wasn’t working out in his favor. After seeing the horrors of terrorism on 9/11 he was ready to fight for his country and enlisted into the military. He goes on to fight in four tours and becomes the deadliest sniper in American history. After each tour, he felt that he had to go back. He had two goals that he couldn’t give up on; protecting his team and taking out the deadliest enemy sniper, Mustafa. Chris would not stop until he achieved his goals, when he finally did, he faced a new battle. He struggled with normal daily life, but even then he persevered and found a new passion to aid him. Throughout this film, Clint Eastwood portrays the theme of perseverance through the use of setting, camera angles, and the main character Chris Kyle.

Between the three stories, “The Dogs Could Teach Me,” “The Flowers,” and “The Sniper.” “The Sniper” demonstrates the best suspenseful text between the three stories. To create a suspenseful story, “The Sniper” develops multiple moments of suspense. For instance one illustration of suspense in “The Sniper” is, “He paused for a moment, considering whether he should risk a smoke. It was dangerous. The flash might be seen in the darkness, and there were enemies watching. He decided to take the risk.” This is a suspenseful moment in “The Sniper” because if the sniper risks to smoke, he will be giving away his position and could be shot at by the enemy's. Again, you have varying perspectives as some take place before the shooting, some weeks after, and sometimes you are getting the before, in the moment and after all at once. Each story has a boiling point, and it's one that you know if going to happen, it's just a simple question of when. I did enjoy that the book doesn't label which author wrote which story. While some of the writers have a more distinctive style than others, the flow from story to story is well done, and sometimes I'd forget that I was reading a different author's story because everything feels so inter-connected. If I had to pick favorites, I'd said they were "Miss Susie," "The Perfect Shot," "History Lessons," and "Hypothetical Time Travel." These four stories in particular stirred a lot of emotion in me, but I think all the stories as a collective are
