The setting in “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is crucial to the plot of the story. For instance the island where the story takes place must be isolated. For the antagonist, General Zaroff, to hunt people on the island it is important that the island cannot be found. Therefore it is necessary for the island to be secluded. Rainsford, the protagonist, is now trapped on the island with no way to escape. “He was in a picture frame of water, and his operations must take place within that frame” (11). Rainsford is out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by the sea making it difficult to leave and very far away from anything else.
