Cloning is an often discussed topic among the masses. This could range anywhere from a children’s television show, to an intense debate between two influential figures of the science world. As interesting of a prospect that cloning is however, the ethics behind such a scientific process would result in many negatives in this world. Some examples of why the cloning process should be abandoned are as follows: the cost to research and produce these clones is astronomical, and could be used for more beneficial prospects; if the purpose of creating these clones is for organs, science is close to being able to do without creating a life that will end immediately; the likelihood of a genetic mishap in one of these clones is very prevalent; and finally, the amount of discrimination against these clones would likely drive some to suicide or depression, as well as potential lynchings or other hate crimes. For these reasons, and many more, Humanity cannot allow itself to fall into the temptation of creating “artificial” people. After the cloning of Dolly the sheep in 1997 ( Herper, 2013; Kolehmainen, n.d.) cloning has tried to meet the next milestone of cloning a human being, but one of the problems with this is the cost it takes to complete such a task. Four years ago Forbes published an article discussing the price of one step of human cloning. In this article Forbes (2013) says
“Scientists will almost certainly use fewer eggs if therapeutic cloning is used on people. But even if
CBS News estimates that there are approximately 12 million infertile americans, but according to scientists, cloning may very likely become the next big solution to infertility. The type is referred to as reproductive cloning and is a term used to describe the process of making an identical copy of a person, creating a new human being with the same DNA as an existing person. So far it has not been allowed in humans, but it has been used experimentally with many animals, and the first successful case, as aforementioned, was of Dolly the sheep back in 1996. However, Couples who cannot conceive naturally turn to fertility treatments and other procedures for help. Some couples who can produce eggs and sperm are able to conceive this way. However, reproductive cloning can provide another option for those who want children but cannot produce eggs or sperm. The process of reproductive cloning can create a genetically related child for the couple. The child produced by cloning would be the genetic duplicate of one of the parents. Through this process, a cell is taken form the patient, the nucleus is removed and is put into an empty egg. Then the formed an embryyo is implanted into a woman’s uterus, and it will then grow like any normal pregnancy. Any extra embryos could also be immediately frozen for future attempts at pregnancy. Dr. Mark Sauer, an infertility expert at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, hopes
Recently the world has turned its attention to a new development in science, cloning. Cloning is defined as “the process of producing a clone” (Dictionary.com). This has become a big deal because the endless ways we can bring back extinct creatures. Such as, the extinct wooly mammoth, the Tasmanian tiger, and Quagga. With the endless ability to bring back animal from the past with DNA there comes a problem. With human DNA made available so easily science has come to the idea and process of making designer babies. A designer baby is a baby whose genetic makeup has been selected in order to eradicate a particular defect, or to ensure that a particular gene is present. A family gene might be a bad disease which a baby might get when born. Before this, cloning a baby was science fiction idea to people. It was never imagined or even thought possible, but now it is not. Scientist have already started to create ways to clone babies. With this comes the problem of how far should scientist go? This could be both a blessing and a curse.
There have been recent studies on animals where the scientist cloned the animals. Cloning is something many people are split on. Some say it is bad some say it is good. I think cloning is a bad thing. Cloning can be a bad thing in many ways. I will be covering some of those ways in this paper.
Imagine a teenage girl, only seventeen years old having to go three states away to
Cloning is a number of processes that are used to create genetically identical copies of an organism. Researchers have cloned a number of biological materials, such as genes, cells, tissues and whole organisms, including sheep 's and horses. Cloning can happen naturally in identical twins, but it can also be done in a lab. ("Cloning Fact Sheet").
I am writing to address the problem I have with cloning. Therapeutic and Reproductive cloning is a waste of money and time. Why would you pay fifty thousand american dollars to clone something or someone that won’t be an exact copy? Every person or animal in the world is made for a reason, so why make a clone if you’re one of a kind.
In the article “In Favor of Cloning”, the author Greg Stock influences the reader by stating that human cloning advance’s
If a random individual were asked twenty years ago if he/she believed that science could clone an animal, most would have given a weird look and responded, “Are you kidding me?” However, that once crazy idea has now become a reality, and with this reality, has come debate after debate about the ethics and morality of cloning. Yet technology has not stopped with just the cloning of animals, but now many scientists are contemplating and are trying to find successful ways to clone human individuals. This idea of human cloning has fueled debate not just in the United States, but also with countries all over the world. I believe that it is not morally and ethically right
Cloning Dolly, the sheep in 1996 was a momentous moment in scientific history. Scientists removed the nucleus from one of Dolly 's skin cells and engineered an egg to be insert with then nucleus. This egg could have fertilized in a mothers ' uterus. Following this discovery, mice, pigs and cattle have been cloned based on the same concept. In 2012, a group of scientists took cloning a step further and cloned human embryos. With great certainty, human cloning will be banned by the government due to human rights. The government has already deemed it illegal to fund human cloning projects. Despite the human rights issue, cloning serves a great role in research. These cloned embryos will help understand the biological nature of human cells and the human body. Also the embryos will help advance medical treatments for a wide variety of diseases. Cloning is vital to genetic engineering. Problems do arise from such an advancement. Exploration of women would be a major issue due to the fact that these cloned embryos need to be implanted into a women 's ' uterus in order to under go gestation. Almost all scientific developments pose positive and negative outcomes.
Many people have asked, "Why would anyone want to clone a human being?" There are at least two good reasons: to allow families to conceive twins of exceptional individuals, and to allow childless couples to reproduce. In a free society we must also ask, "Are the negative consequences sufficiently compelling that we must prohibit consenting adults from doing this?" We will see that in general they are not. Where specific abuses are anticipated, these can be avoided by targeted laws and regulations, which I will suggest below.
Another supplementary argument can be made on the topic of medical advancements made possible through the cloning process, mankind will be provided with organs and cells with which human’s lives will be saved. If a person needs an organ transplant the normal means of transplantation would involve the removal of an organ from another person. This organ could be rejected and many complications could arise, often with deadly repercussions. Human cloning would involve using the person’s own cells that could be cloned to produce a healthy, normal organ for use in the person. Through this process, there would be no
With misconceptions of cloning, it is no wonder controversies are preeminent, with many claiming the benefits are unable to be outweighed by the cons. With clones being unable to be differentiated from a natural born child. Socrates, a greek philosopher once said,” there is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.” We as a society must enable artificial cloning to gain more funding, as the medical implications alone can save lives, save families, and stop suffering of those in
Many ethical and moral dilemmas arise when discussing human cloning, and one can have many positions for and against each. To understand the issues surrounding human cloning, one must have a basic
In addition, there are individuals who approve of the idea of cloning and do not have a problem with “making life” identical to what already exists. These individuals argue that cloning can and should be used for medical purposes, and can also provide nations with accessible clones to do “dirty jobs” or participate in the military forces in order to benefit the country. Others decide that cloning is justifiable in order to replace a deceased child or pet or to even enable infertile couples to have children. While many people agree that cloning can be beneficial, I argue the idea that they may be ignoring one huge key factor – this act is a violation of nature. To be a human, one must have the qualities of a human, which include emotions and unique personal thoughts. Will a clone have their own unique distinguishable thoughts as well? The process and implementation of cloning removes our individuality and God-given abilities as humans. The idea of creating a completely separate entity, a living, breathing entity not created by the Creator is in my opinion, ethical injustice.
Scientists have been getting closer and closer to reproducing stem cells and in the process they won 't have to deconstruct the human embryo. The bad side is that the people who are sick are waiting around for cloning. Without cloning now these sick and injured people are going to become even more and more sick and injured as time goes by. As this time goes by these people could even start dieing like. What i 'm basically saying is that people need cloning in there life, not all but some and if they don 't have it it 's not going to get any better for them. You 're basically making them suffer something that might be able to be fix.
