The Philosophy Of Leadership And Leadership

Leadership, to me, is more than just being able to tell people what to do. You have to be able to respect them, listen to their ideas, and make them feel equal. It’s not about setting yourself above everyone else; it’s the ability to influence others in a positive manner. A good leader is someone who inspires others to dream bigger or become that better person they’ve always wanted to be. Leadership entails bringing out the best in everyone, or at least being able to see their best qualities. Someone could be thrust into a leadership position, but lack those qualities, therefore, holding a leadership position doesn’t automatically qualify you as a leader. These highly specific qualities require constant learning, understanding, and growth, and are characteristics that even the best leaders are still trying to perfect.

John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States, once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” This is how I see leadership as well. It is not about proving you are the best, controlling others, or even winning a race. The meaning of leadership, at its core, is having the ability to turn followers into strong leaders. This is how truly great things can be accomplished.

The definition of leadership has different kinds of meanings to me. Having leadership could be a person that has done a great impact on society or has just done something that has made someone feel better. Leaders have a great responsibility probably the most difficult job for a leader is to persuade others to follow. It can only be possible if the leader inspires there followers by setting a good example. When the going gets tough, they look up to a leader and see how they react to the situation. If they can handle it well. As a leader, they should think positive and this positive approach should be visible through their actions. Leadership is the ability to influence others and investing ones self to achieve a common goal. Influencing others requires you to sometimes have different groups; races, sexes, religious beliefs, etc. find that common ground in order to achieve something greater than them. Investing ones self to show there is no differentiation between you and the people who follow you. That we all carry the same weight and I expect no more from you than I would expect from myself.

Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.

According to Collins English dictionary, Leadership is the art of leading others to deliberately create a result that wouldn’t have happen otherwise. A leader helps himself and others to do the right things. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where one need to go to achieve a goal as a team or an organization and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring for those who participate in this journey. Yet, while leaders set the direction, they must also use management skills to guide their people to the right destination, in a smooth and efficient way.

‘Leadership is the subjective. But its foundation stems from one thing: the ability of an individual to establish a following among other individuals or teams.” (Post, 2017) There is no true 1 way to lead. My leadership philosophy is subjective. Each situation, individual, and/or team dictates which of the 30 leadership behaviors we should pay more attention to during that particular time. The 5 personal values that are most valuable to me and guide my leadership philosophy are family, dependability, honesty, communications, and loyalty. The most influential, positive, effective leader I have had the pleasure of working with was the supervisor who made it very clear from the beginning his leadership

According to Webster’s Dictionary, leadership is the power or ability to lead other people, the act or instance of leading. I believe that Leadership is an art, the art to get others to follow and accomplish a common goal or task in a harmonic manner. A leader can be shown in all kinds of shapes and forms. To be a great leader many people believe it consists of modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others to act, and encouraging the heart. Over the course of me learning how to become a better leader and being in leadership roles, I’ve learned that all these are very necessary to be a great leader.

I define leadership as the ability to seek out and empower others to influence their generation and society for the greater good. A leader is a mentor. To me, a leader is someone who helps themselves and others to do the right things. They are people who build an inspiring vision of the future, motivates and inspires people to engage in that vision. They lead and work with others so that it is effective at achieving the vision. Leaders also set directions. They practice in the act of planning things out and leading a group/organization. Leaders have high management skills to guide people to a successful future, in an efficient way. Leadership is also the ability to see a problem and be the solution.

In my experience, my idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, communicate, respect others, listen to individuals, and of course lead from the front. I believe that every leader needs to have the ability to convince his or her followers that they are worthy of being followed. Creating an environment that encourages people to share their opinions and to motivate them to be their best selves is an important aspect of leadership, and allows members of your team to trust you throughout the entire task or mission. No one individual is going to be the same and that is why you as a leader have to be able to push and motivate each individual differently. How I define leadership has mostly to do with 27 years of service in the Army and 20 of those years spent as a Non-Commissioned Officer. Simply put, I believe leadership is the balancing of two competing priorities, the accomplishment of the mission and the welfare of the people that are in your charge. Others can probably think up a million of other subcategories that go into defining leadership, but I believe those are the two over arching things a leader has to do. I see those two priorities being symbiotic because without the people I can’t accomplish the mission but without the mission I don’t need the people.

Artisans all have tools they proudly weld in the pursuit of their craft. Musicians have their instruments of wood, brass, string and voice. Sculptors and painters have their materials of metals, clays, pigments and canvas while dancers use their bodies and costumes. These items are all used as tools of personal expression for the artist. Many artists appear to be born with natural talents for their art or are drawn to one medium of expression over another, but none excel at their craft without dedication and deliberate practice.

My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. Leadership is something that people are born with. It is an inherent charm and it doesn’t hide even if you want to hide it. There is a leader amongst us and he or she is the one that leads other people to great things by inspiring and motivating people to do good deeds.
