Antisocial personality disorder is a disorder of the brain that cause one to disregard other people’s rights by violating them, they lack empathy and are very malicious towards others, they enjoy the suffering of individuals whether it be an animal or human being and it usually occurs during child/teen hood and worsens as the child ages. With this disorder comes a hatred toward society due to lack of knowledge of the real world “Many of the children grow up shy, lonely, highly sensitive, with feelings of being rejected, unloved and neglected by family and/or society”(Miller, 2014, p.13). Isolation at young ages causes children to not know how to interact with others in the real world they think that it is okay to violate personal space because they were never taught what that was. With the isolation and feelings of oddity in the child, they begin to manifest fantasies within their own mind (Miller, 2014, p.14). Many times the child starts out with violent sexual fantasies that they would like to act out but do not have an execution plan so they experiment on inanimate objects or even themselves or family members who will not tell such as younger siblings. This quickly escalates to the things they do to strangers in society starting with smaller steps such as stalking, peeping tom, or abduction. With such successes, they begin their reign of terror
Peter has demonstrated deviant and criminal behaviors by utilizing assumed names, burglary of other individuals ' property, exhibits no remorse for his violation of others property and/or feelings. He also does not have the capacity to be self-supporting. This is evident by Peter 's partner, Wendy, who believed Peter’s assertion that he was an independent computer consultant and an Ivy League graduate. She later discovered Peter was a high school dropout and a Gulf War veteran.

Antisocial personality disorder causes a person to have no regard for the rights of others. Persons with this disorder will violate those with whom they socialize. The law is not regarded by them. They have tendencies to bully and assault anyone they might become irritated or aggravated by. Their irritability, aggressiveness and impulsiveness causes them to pick fights. After all of their bullying, lying, assaulting, breaking the law, etc. they have no remorse for their actions. They will not own up to their wrong. This disorder hinders persons from having healthy relationships with family and friends. They are not successful in careers because they do not have the ability to socialize with others (DSM-IV-TR, 2000).
Antisocial personality disorder is considered a mental health disorder where one may act and behave differently from people around him or her. People suffering from an antisocial personality disorder exhibit “extreme disregard for and violation of the rights of others” (Kearney & Trull, 2015, p. 296). Individuals with this disorder are often reckless and impulsive when it comes to the safety of others and they “lack remorse for the harm they inflict” (Kearney & Trull, 2015, p. 296). Those suffering from this disorder seem as if they do not care if they inflict harm to others and many with this disorder have criminal records. The questions that arises from those suffering from this disorder is whether when they were inflicting harm upon others did they at the time understand right from wrong and can they be held accountable for their actions?
Antisocial personality disorder is one of the hardest mental disorders to treat. Treatment is long term and may better the situation but the disorder will not be cured. It is also very rare for an individual with ASPD to seek help for themselves due to their denial of symptoms. Oftentimes, help is only sought if the individual is in legal
mentioned, the general features that represent most personality disorders are chronic interpersonal difficulties, problems with ones identity or sense of self, and inability to function adequately in society. Personality disorders can stem form stressful events in life that may cause a person to develop inflexible, distorted personality and behavioral patterns that translate into maladaptive way of perceiving, thinking and interacting in the world. The people that have personality disorders struggle with maintaining healthy relationships and those that find themselves in a relationship with them find their behavior exhausting, confusing and unpredictable (Hooley, Butcher, Nock & Mineka, 2017).
Antisocial Personality Disorder, commonly known as ASPD, has been found to not have a single cause. Although, theorists have hypothesized that antisocial personality disorder takes on the biopsychosocial model (PsychCentral). Also, antisocial personality disorder has been found to be 70 percent more prevalent in men than women. With such an overwhelming prevalence in one gender than another, it would be enlightening to research what are some main factors in causation. By taking a closer look at biological/genetic, psychological, and social factors, a more concise conclusion can be made about ASPD causes. According to the DSM-5, to meet the diagnosis criterion for antisocial personality disorder, an individual must have a majority of these symptoms: failure to conform to social norms, deceitfulness, impulsivity, aggressiveness, reckless disregard for safety, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. Within these symptoms, the severity of one or another could also account for the differences in antisocial personality disorder diagnosis in females and males. Another factor that certainly plays into diagnosis is childhood development. Childhood can be rewarding and/or traumatizing depending on one’s situation, either way, it is arguably the most influential time in one’s life so by looking at an individual's childhood development one can gain more insight into the cause of such disorder as ASPD.
