A particular piece of music is most appealing to me when I can relate to it. However, I like all kinds of music depending on time, place, and certain moods I may be feeling.Having a relation to music or a song can be uplifting, calming, or inspiring. Have youever felt like there was nothing you can do about a situation or a particular problem could not get any better? That feeling has drowned me at times. At times I have lost motivation for the things I seek to gain or feeling it may be impossible. Hearing the struggles I go through in music or knowing I am not alone has comforted me. In the article, “The Benefits of Listening to Music,” the author, Steven Cornelius and Mary Natvig, states, “Attentive listening is good
In the reading, “Shitty First Draft by Anne Lamott,” she talks about her struggles on writing a perfect just like anybody else does. People lives are not perfect, just the same way your first essay is written. Anne first tells us how nobody can sit down and write a perfect draft right away. Not even me that I’ve been going to school non-stop, I cannot sit down to write an essay draft. I would sit down and rub my head or just write on as piece of paper what my essay would be about.
After observing, communicating with, and analyzing the work of Kayson Maciel-Andrews, I have learned many things about working with advanced students in a low-achieving classroom. At my internship site, we have a very low population of talented and gifted students, less than 2%, and therefore, getting the opportunity to work closely with one of these students was a very unique opportunity for me.
The Author, Phillip Lopate, Introduces himself in “The Essay, An Exercise in Doubt” as an essayiest; a professional essay writer. This was an interesting discovery for me, when I think of an author I never considered that there was a market for writing essays alone. Lopate introduction alone sparked my interest. I was not sure where the essay would lead me but was aware that I would be engaged and informed.
In “They Say I Say”, chapter 11 may perhaps be the most important chapter in the entire book. Chapter 11 emphases on how important it is to revise and edit your writing. Some students may say that reading over you essay and getting somebody to edit it is pointless but I think that it’s a vital step. It’s simple. Revision and editing could turn your awful essay into a superior essay. When I read over my work I always consider changing it to improve it, should I add more complex sentences? “What [do I] need to do to make it better” (Graff 139). In addition, I would constantly find grammar and punctuation errors that weakened my essay. After I guaranteed that there were no more grammar mistakes my student editor would find one.
Albert Namatjira was born on the 28th of July 1902 in Hermannsburg (Ntaria), Northern Territory. In 1905, the family received into the Lutheran Church, this was the beginning of a transition. Albert was born as Elea, however later on his name was changed to Albert after being baptized. After being baptized, Albert’s father was given the name Jonathan and his mother was blessed with the name Emilie. During Albert’s school years, he attended Hermannsburg Mission School. He lived in an all boys’ dormitory away from his family. Growing up, Albert sketched many things. He mainly sketched all his surroundings, the landscape around him and in some cases he even made artefacts out of wood. During the Aboriginal expedition people became extremely attracted to his great landscapes due to his undeniable talent. The first time Albert left Mission School was at the age of thirteen for six months (what did he do??). After
While attending public schools english teachers did not begin teaching students the proper method to create a essay until the sixth grade. I never understood writing, because the stress of the state test, the teachers only taught what will earn students a successful score. In lectures, we learned to create and revise an essay. The teacher trusted student to be accurate in their corrections. By analyzing Richard Straub’s document, I have gained knowledge on where to put place my comments, how to criticize an essay and goals a responder should encounter.
The Cold War holds a special place in the study of international relations and its paradigms and perspectives. In this part of the course, three readings work together to provide a basis of arguments and positions on the origins of the Cold War as they relate to international relations. As George Kennan describes in the article written under the pseudonym ‘Mr. X’ in the early years of the Cold War, the Soviets were widely recognized in the western world as being fundamentally expansionist by nature, and this fundamental attribute would lead to the ultimate quest to spread communist ideology across the globe, eventually leading right up to the United States’ doorstep. Similarly, Douglas J. MacDonald lays out the viewpoints held by policymakers
Lesley Choyce’s The Book Of Michael illustrates that it is important to move on from hardships that occurred in our past. Michael decided to move on from his girlfriend’s murder, and instead of mourning, he decided to go back to school and do something with his life. “I had nothing to lose. I had already lost it all. I was free. Strangely enough, my parents tried to stop me. They thought I had lost my mind. ‘Why today?’ my dad asked. ‘What do I have to lose?’ was my answer.” (Choyce 147-148) This quotation tells us that Michael wanted to go back to school and start a new life again. He keeps repeating that he has nothing to lose, which shows us that he is starting from scratch again and has nothing that he can possibly lose. In addition, Michael
My initial reaction to my essay was rather...meh. The writing was still very characteristic of Dave Gao. There were no gasps of horror induced by my former writing quality. But as I peered deeper into the language of the paper, I began to notice subtle, yet significant changes I had undergone throughout the year. I have to admit that at the time, I believed my essay was excellent—a verifiable work of beauty. Now, the essay looked crude, and a bit too simplistic. The vocabulary seemed rather
Kane would mark through my essays where my grammar lacked, and I corrected those errors as I did more writing. Drafting and revising allowed me to see different perspectives of writing that I can include in my essay in order to lengthen it and for it to be academic. I tended to write in first person in my body paragraphs which was a major error, but I corrected that after seeing the notes that were on my revision sheet. Grammar mistakes weaken your essay since, you lose the reader of how the essay is supposed to flow, and I revised my common mistakes and avoided them throughout my essays in order to keep the reader engaged. What also helped me to write this essay was the textbook, everything’s an argument I would read the about the topic we were on, view samples of essays and I got a hint of how the essay should be. These strategies improved my writing whereas when I began this class my writing was weak and unclear and now that I'm approaching the end of this class my writing is on a college level scale and this will help me in my
People have different ideas of a good essay. Essays that are interesting to the readers. For an essay to be considered a good essay, it has to be entertaining, the readers should be able to picture an image in their mind. For many others, they may have different ideas about what a good writer is. For example, I don’t like it when writers give out too much information. They will describe things and go on and on about it. Others might like this, but I don’t like it when the writers do this. Most writers have one of the qualities that I think makes a good writer. They don’t have to have all three qualities for me to think that it’s a good essay.
One of the most important parts about writing is the process behind it. An essay should consist of an introduction, a body and a conclusion.
