I will do my extended analysis on the film, The Outsiders. The film’s release was in 1983, and the director was Francis Ford Coppola. The genre of this film is drama. The Outsiders would fall into the classification chart in two categories (realism and classicism). This film is realistic because it concentrates more on the content, plot, and themes than form, visuals, and appearance which is the formalism approach. Also, it is realistic because it represents reality with no distortions. The Outsiders is a realistic story about two rivalry gangs. Some of the settings throughout the film take place in realistic areas like a suburban neighborhood, a park, and hospital. The plot is about two gangs, the poor, middle-class greasers and the rich, high-class Socs. The main characters from the greasers are Dallas (Dally), Ponyboy (Pony), Johnny, Darrel, Sodapop, and Two-Bit. Moreover, Darrel, Sodapop, and Ponyboy are all brothers. The story highlights the challenges the greasers face in a divided society between two gangs. One major obstacle they face is Johnny kills one of the Socs because he was drowning Pony and almost killed him. Thus, Dally helps Pony and Johnny escape town to live at an abandoned church, so Johnny won’t go to jail. Then, one day Dally, Pony, and Johnny return to the church to find it on fire with schoolchildren inside of the church in need of help. Dally, Pony, and Johnny dive in to rescue them. Dally and Pony have superficial injuries while Johnny endures the worst with third degree burns covering his whole body. Dally proposes a fight against the Socs to get revenge for Johnny because this would have never happened to Johnny if he didn’t have to run away from home to stay out of
