The Old Testament And New Testament

The names “Old Testament” and “New Testament” are inherently theological in nature. Because there is a difference distinctly built into giving them different notations, it implies that there are differences between each the Old Testament and the New Testament, whether it is subtle in nature or obvious in nature. To Christians, the difference means that the Old Testament contains dealings between God and the world and even some of the rules made are made irrelevant by the interactions of Christ Jesus with the world. One of the differences between the New Testament and the Old Testament is the way each of the Testaments describe God and God’s nature. The Old Testament describes an angry God, one who only created the world and was obsessed with laws and rules. The New Testament describes a loving God who redeemed the world. The different ways the Old Testament and New Testament describe God and his nature are very much influenced by their perspective of God. By the rules, actions, and laws God made, the early writers of the Old Testament made their judgements about God and wrote those perspectives into the books of the Old Testament. The writers of the Old Testament did the best they could with the information they had and got some things about God right, but also got things wrong. The writers of the New Testament and therefore, Christian believers understand God better.

As a person throughly studies the Words of God found in the Bible, one would find that there are many topics and doctrines contained within. One of the major doctrines or teachings found in Scripture is prophecy. Around 28 percent of the Bible is classified as prophecy. The men who wrote these prophecies did not write based off what they thought would happen. Neither did they write them after the events that were predicted took place as some critics of the Bible would claim. These men were inspired by an omnipotent, omniscient God Who knew the events that would take place in the world. After all, “Prophecy is written foreknowledge of the omniscience of our omnipotent God”

The Hebrew Bible (Tanak), the Protestant Christian, and Catholic & Orthodox Old Testaments share many similarities, as well as significant differences. The similarities are simple: they each start with the same five books, and contain largely the same writings of wisdom, history and prophecy. In the following paragraphs, I’ll focus on the ways that the three groups’ sacred texts are different in structure and purpose.

The history of how the Bible came into existence has been explored for centuries and is an active area of study today. There are many facets to the Bible and each has its own set of unique characteristics and teachings. The Old Testament is considered a contemporary guide for daily living, even though it was composed hundreds of years ago. Where did the Old Testament come from? What are some of the influences that shaped the Old Testament? What are the significant events of the Old Testament? In order to gain a better understanding of the Old Testament and its message to Christians, special consideration is given to its historical and cultural context, and to the major milestones in its development. Personal application of the teachings offered in this section of the Bible should be the aspiration of all Christians today.

The term “Bible” is an interesting one as it potentially encompasses many different entities. There are thousands of versions of the Bible, many arranged and presented in a variety of ways. They vary physically & in content, and as I recently discovered aren 't necessarily Christian. Below I delve into a rather interesting version of the book published in 1976 by HarperCollins (in conjunction with the American Bible Society). Good News Bible is a compilation of the Old Testament and the New Testament in their entirety (the American Bible Society had actually made their version of the New Testament available a decade prior). This information is made easily available in small print on the first few pages just as in most relatively modern books. The society was founded in 1816 and its goal has always been to make the Bible more intelligible. The stories contained within the Good News Bible don 't deviate from those that most Christians are accustomed to, however, the way which these stories are conveyed is rather unique. The book is written in simple everyday English and it is comprehensible to nearly everyone with even the slightest grasp of the language. The basic elements of the book (including cover, binding, paper, font, headings, maps, paper, illustrations, chronology, etc.) are all incorporated deliberately and make it apparent that Good News Bible is intended to make reading the Bible a far less daunting task. Good News Bible is distinctive, because it embodies a

1. Between the time of the Old and New Testament was four hundred years and within this period, there was no message or voice from heaven. There were six periods of rule during the four centuries starting with the Persians, then the Greek, the Egyptian, the Syrian, the Maccabean and lastly the Roman. The Old Testament closed with the Persian Empire ruling Palestine and by the time of Jesus, the Roman Empire was ruling. The New Testament is known as the second major part of the Christian biblical cannon. The New Testament, unlike the Old Testament is responsible for spreading Christianity Theology to the world. The book was written by the disciples of Jesus. When one hear of the book, one’s mind think about the apostle Paul, since he is the one responsible for a large portion of the book and is one of the most studied out of the apostles. Paul has written: First Thessalonians, Galatians, Philemon, Romans and many more. However, with the dates of these gospels going back to million years ago; no one can truly attribute all the Pauline epistles to him. Titus, Ephesians, and First and Second Timothy are all in question of the authorship being Paul or one his followers which has been seen as a common theme in history. Paul’s main purpose for writing these letters was to educate the communities about how to obtain a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. There were other letters that he wrote that were foreshadows of the apocalypse and destruction and one letter that he wrote on behalf of a slave (Letter to Philemon). Galatians is one of those letters were he is writing to the citizens of Galatia and trying to help the gentile Christians one again. Paul achieves this by recalling events of his past life, preaching the gospel that was giving him to by Jesus, and by being expressive and telling the citizens of Galatia that they have betrayed the Lord Jesus Christ by following the Jewish Laws.

In the center of the New Testament a centric theme is present -- Jesus is the Messiah and He has helped bring salvation to Jews and Gentiles alike. In order to understand this theme throughout the New Testament it has to be through the scope of the culture that Jesus was brought in and in of each section of the New Testament. Jesus came a time when the Jewish culture was prospering, but also under pressure from the Roman Empire. The Gospel’s tell of the story of Jesus and how he proved to be the Messiah. Then, the epistles further emphasize the importance of Jesus Messiah and how He has brought salvation to all of humanity. Because Jesus is the center of the New Testament He also should be the center of our lives and not treated as a moralistic therapeutic deity.

The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. The Old Testament is the largest part of the bible nestled behind the leather binding in the front of the book. Unlike most books, told from one-person or even two this is comprised of multiple, some stories even having two different versions in another point of view; over time it has become a large collection of ancient texts written and re-written by different authors and editors over the many years. The stories show the ancient Israelites, they show the laws, and rituals, which make up their religion and the small embers, which will one day, turn to a flame that is Christianity. The Jewish people view these stories as collected in what they call the Torah, is the collection for what makes up their history and the promise that God gave to them, as well as their laws and what they worship today. For the Christians the Old Testament is still seen as sacred, but most place a stronger importance to the New Testament.

It’s been a while since I read the bible whether it’s the Old Testament or the New Testament. I’m not really a very religious man, but my family and I would go to Church, at least try to, every Sunday. I’m Catholic but was raised to go to Methodist Church because of my mother. My father was a Catholic. I was baptize in a catholic church when I was very young and so was my wife. I didn’t get back to Catholic church until my wife and I got married. But I always considered myself as Catholic. My mom understands. I have 4 other brothers that are practicing different religion. But we all believe in one God. So we respect each other’s religion. The Book of Leviticus is the third book of the Hebrew Bible, and the third of five books of the Torah (or Pentateuch), and the third book of the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Moses was the author of the Book of Leviticus. Leviticus contains the law and commandments that God gave to his newly sanctified people to obey as their part of their covenant relationship. I have learned a lot in the New Testament. It’s important to know how the author intended the book to be interpreted. Also if we know the basic historical background, it could help comprehend the meaning behind the book being written. If we really want to understand the bible to help us grow spiritually, we must be informed in our history. It could tell us why our ancestors went through certain trials. We can then know why we still face dilemmas from their past actions today. History continues to affect our lives, and if we learn from the past it could salvage the future.

Many Christians focus majority of studies in the New Testament. The New Testament catches many attentions because it describes Jesus’ life and birth of the church. As people focus more on the New Testament, the Old Testament is viewed as an unnecessary book to read. Christians have debated whether the Old Testament is needed to be read. Many Christians have claimed that the Old Testament is unnecessary to the biblical study with the New Testament containing all the study materials needed. Even so, Old Testament is vital literature needed for Christians. The Old Testament’s importance comes from its prophecies, stories, and ideas. The Old Testament helps to complete the New Testament

The Bible simply says in Isaiah 55:9, "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts." God does work His wonders in ways that are beyond finding out! The congregation at Calvary has heard repeatedly about the classic book called "Pilgrims Progress." In this timeless book there is a man named "Mr. Worldly Wise." It doesn 't take long for a Christian to realize that he shouldn 't have listened to this man. Mr. Worldly Wise does not have the mind of God. There would appear to be great wisdom coming from his mouth, but it 's not from God. Something that will have to be accepted by faith, no matter how good the intentions, if the direction that a person is going is not governed by God 's wisdom, that journey, that path, will end in hopelessness.
