It’s been a while since I read the bible whether it’s the Old Testament or the New Testament. I’m not really a very religious man, but my family and I would go to Church, at least try to, every Sunday. I’m Catholic but was raised to go to Methodist Church because of my mother. My father was a Catholic. I was baptize in a catholic church when I was very young and so was my wife. I didn’t get back to Catholic church until my wife and I got married. But I always considered myself as Catholic. My mom understands. I have 4 other brothers that are practicing different religion. But we all believe in one God. So we respect each other’s religion. The first topic I want to discuss is the Exodus. The Exodus tells of the enslavement of the …show more content…
Come, now! I will send you to Pharaoh to lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” (61). And does the start of mass exodus of thousands of Israelites from Egypt. In the third month after their departure from Egypt God again spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai and said “Therefore, if you hearken to my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my special possession, dearer to me than all other people, though all the earth is mine” (77). What does God mean when he said “special possession”? I think the very word “possession” denotes something only God can really have. My emotional reaction to anything given to me that I treasure is one of thankfulness and a great sense of responsibility towards. My greatest treasure given to me by God would be my family. I believe he has given me this gifts to use to fulfill my …show more content…
My son is one whom I treasure and feel responsibility for. I want to protect him and teach his in ways that are good. Helping him attain integrity and Godly character. He is like a jewel to me that I like to polish and shape until he shines and becomes beautiful and who God made him to be. The idea of possession was fulfilled to Israel in the same way. Through a covenant with God who agreed to protect and by giving them commandments, was teaching them to follow His ways so they could shine in the land God was giving them. He guided them into truths and has given them His wisdom to learn of a better way of life. God has demanded the Israelites to get along with other people “When an alien resides with you in your land, do not molest him. You shall treat the alien who resides with you no differently than the natives born among you: have the same love for him as for yourself; for you too were once aliens in the land of Egypt.” (120). God chose Israel to be His “special possession” out of all the people in the world to bless them and then pass it forward to the rest of the world. And for the Christians, it is faith in Christ Jesus that each and every
I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ “This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation. “Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to
In Exodus, God returns attention to the Hebrews but uses a descendent of Abraham to do so. After the death of Joseph and his brothers, the Hebrews continued to flourish in Egypt. Their numbers multiplied, which resulted in the Egyptians fearing that they would be overthrown. The Pharaoh then forced the Hebrews into slavery. After over four hundred years of not communicating with the Hebrews, God speaks with Moses through a burning bush. God tells Moses that the Hebrews will be delivered out of Egypt after facing oppression and slavery from the Egyptians. God has Moses tell the Hebrews that He is “‘The Lord, the God of [the Hebrews] ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” (Exodus 3:15). This moment acts as the
This lead the reader question why God did not provide defined rules, or expectations, prior to the commandments? Previous covenants focused on God’s obligations: to not destroy mankind again and to provide Abraham offspring and the land of Canaan, whereas Exodus focused on Israelite responsibilities (p. 114). In the end, the reader found Exodus a “rite of passage” that displayed God’s trust in the Israelites and a formalized relationship with God.
The names “Old Testament” and “New Testament” are inherently theological in nature. Because there is a difference distinctly built into giving them different notations, it implies that there are differences between each the Old Testament and the New Testament, whether it is subtle in nature or obvious in nature. To Christians, the difference means that the Old Testament contains dealings between God and the world and even some of the rules made are made irrelevant by the interactions of Christ Jesus with the world. One of the differences between the New Testament and the Old Testament is the way each of the Testaments describe God and God’s nature. The Old Testament describes an angry God, one who only created the world and was obsessed with laws and rules. The New Testament describes a loving God who redeemed the world. The different ways the Old Testament and New Testament describe God and his nature are very much influenced by their perspective of God. By the rules, actions, and laws God made, the early writers of the Old Testament made their judgements about God and wrote those perspectives into the books of the Old Testament. The writers of the Old Testament did the best they could with the information they had and got some things about God right, but also got things wrong. The writers of the New Testament and therefore, Christian believers understand God better.
In the book of Exodus from the Bible, God and Pharaoh both wish for possession of the Hebrews for different reasons. Pharaoh rose to power in Egypt thinking he could use them to his benefit and the city’s benefit, all while trying to reduce the number inhabiting the powerful city, while God wanted to free his people from the oppression occurring in Egypt.
Exodus 19:5: Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.
In the United States, health care price information is rarely made available to the health care consumer when they receive the service. Patients are usually become aware of the costs when they receive the bill. The price health care can vary radically by health care provider. Furthermore, prices can even vary by payer for the same provider. According to one study, consumers paid 10 to 17 percent less when they were given access to comparative price data. This tended to work best for consumers who had to pay for at least a portion of their care out of pocket. According to a paper that was published in the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, when patients had access to price data and were willing to shop around, they could be paying significantly less for everything from routine screenings to knee surgery \cite{www-google-transparent}. This tended to work best for consumers who had to pay for at least some portion of their own care.
Biblical faith, such as Christianity, indicates most of its values in different verses of the Bible and people are expected to live according to the conditions of the covenant (Law 5). Therefore, such people are intended to cherish the religion. Christianity and other biblical faiths, such as the Jewish faith, depend on the Bible, which direct the people’s lives. It means that people who do not follow the directions of the Bible as well as the covenants are likely to be viewed as people who violate Christian
In the Bible, I never read the word immigration nor immigrants. In Addition, in Israel’s history, Israelites traveled many times from one land to another. Moreover, Old Testament, 39 books, and the New Testament, 27 books, I did not see the word immigration. Does that mean people own nothing and God owns everything? In Chapter 1, the creation, grounds, lands, and plants were made. How could people own something they did not make?
Although they are both parts of a one book, there are various differences in the New Testaments and the Old Testament. The first difference is in the time period. The Old Testament was written during the time of Moses to about 400 B.C. The New Testament was written between A.D. 50 and A.D. 150. Secondly, the Old Testament was written to tell the story of God and how they waited for a Messiah. The New Testament told that Jesus Christ was the Messiah and also explains the foundation of the church and the spread of Christianity. The Old testament introduces ideas, while the New Testament showed how the predictions and the methods were correct.
With Adam’s covenant with God having been defunct as of the expulsion from Eden, the extant covenants are limited to those of Noah, Abraham, and of Moses. All mankind is considered heir to the burdens of Adam and Noah. According to the Jewish tradition, the obligations created through Abraham and Moses are what distinguish the Children of Israel as a people apart from the
The two gospels, The Old Testament and The New Testament provide mirror images of Terrestrial Humans mentality Evolution and the comprehensive overview of the mental developmental trends over a span covering last five millennia. The Old Testament moral norms served in establishing a legal system with base in an absolute, irrevocable right of private ownership. Incontestable proof of continuous process of Evolution in this micro-segment of Spiral is an emergence of ‘The New Testament’, as a herald of a new mental era on the Earth, which naturally succeeds ‘The Old Testament’. Needless to remind, that The Old Testament also inspired adherents to vehemently follow the principle "an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth", a total ‘defence of ownership’ “…based on the superstition or the illusion that one was ‘God 's chosen people’ and was superior to all ‘heathens’ ". (Quote from ‘Livets Bog’, Vol IV #1310)
The Old Testament is the largest part of the bible nestled behind the leather binding in the front of the book. Unlike most books, told from one-person or even two this is comprised of multiple, some stories even having two different versions in another point of view; over time it has become a large collection of ancient texts written and re-written by different authors and editors over the many years. The stories show the ancient Israelites, they show the laws, and rituals, which make up their religion and the small embers, which will one day, turn to a flame that is Christianity. The Jewish people view these stories as collected in what they call the Torah, is the collection for what makes up their history and the promise that God gave to them, as well as their laws and what they worship today. For the Christians the Old Testament is still seen as sacred, but most place a stronger importance to the New Testament.
Evan Ramsey, snuck a shotgun into his high school and shot a student and the principal and wounded two others. He claims that a video game, Doom, distorted his version of reality: "I did not understand that if I pull out a gun and shoot you ... you're not getting back up. You shoot a guy in Doom, and he gets back up. You have got to shoot the things in Doom eight or nine times before it dies."(Fletcher Lyndee Christmas News) Even though numerous students demonstrate that playing violent video games leads to increased aggression, do video games really cause violent behavior because no definitive links exists between playing video games and common violence and if video games do cause bad behavior then why are
The Old Testament consisted of a set of documentations of religious scriptures, which were written by different people at various times for a different audience. Most of the Old Testament contains short stories of traditional stories and those stories of distinguished ways God established mankind. These stories are often told to the people in narrative form, which are guidelines often referred to as laws, songs, genealogies, and a list from these authors that composed the Old Testaments. The pressing of set documentation is essential because it is the framework for the lives of God 's followers. The term “Old Testament” originated as a means to express spoken traditions and God 's creation of that particular era. It is an method of philosophical investigation was designed to answer the why questions within these spiritual text documentations. These religious documentations consisted of four parts. These four sections retrieved from the Old Testaments are the laws, history, wisdom and prophecy. The laws are a rule of behavior enforced within the community. The rules are sometimes called “Torah.” When analyzing this Torah, these rules viewed within the first five spiritual books of the Bible. For example, in the first Torah in Genesis, it explains the creation, Noah’s Flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Joseph’s coats of many colors. However, the laws in Exodus were in regards to the going out. The going out took about 40 plus years, until the people led to
