The Mobile Food Bank Delivery Service

Decent Essays

The Mobile Food Bank delivery service serves as an 8-month pilot project and may possibly satisfy the needs of people with mobility issues. As stated earlier, this project also aims to deliver to approximately 50 households bi-weekly in Halifax. Ultimately, this project hopes to improve food security in Halifax. However, there are a few evident and visible barriers that exist, amongst these are finding the financial support for this project, and most importantly, the effectiveness of the project.
Since this 8-month project is a non-profit project that does not aim to sell food, but rather to give food to those who are in need instead, there is no need to apply for a Food Establishment Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). However, if the project committees wish to organize any fundraisers prior to the start of the project, which includes food booths or mobile canteens that involves selling food at temporary events, it is then necessary that the project committee applies for a Temporary Event Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015).
In addition to fundraising events, there are also several grants that are available. However, grants do not provide a guaranteed source of income. Applying for grants is an arduous task, which would fall under the responsibilities of the project employee, and the start of the project would be dependent on the employee’s ability to secure the finances.
