The importance of a leader’s ability to embrace and promote change can not be over stated. It is imperative for a leader to understand and manage changes in the work place in order to promote innovation and therefore creativity from the work force. A leader that promotes innovation promotes an environment of change and with it people that are encouraged to accept changes. The leader’s role is very important because they have a duty to create and atmosphere that promotes innovative ideas and changes (Huber, 2014). I work for The Jackson Health System (JHS), and they resently implemented computerized charting. JHS organized multiple monthly meets for over a year with the system wide nursing staff and administrators. This opened the lines
As already discussed in Section 1, business productivity and change cannot occur without effecting people’s psychology to effect change. I initially felt that supervision would be fundamental to addressing and identify issues to allow reflection to plan a way forward to address issues, such as, performance management, productivity, effectiveness and understanding the views of the individuals to effect and improve individuals and team goals, and linking this to the business plan. This approach I

Jackson Memorial however, ended the 2015 fiscal year with positive numbers due to its non-operating revenue. Due to Jackson’s total non-operating revenue of $467,855,586, net income ended at $209,430,749 (Public Health Thrust of Miami-Dade, 2015, p. 18). Compared to 2015, Jackson Memorial’s operating numbers were slightly low in 2014. Jackson Memorial had $1,173,157,623 in total operating revenues with total operating expenses of $1,506,814,082 generating a total operating loss of $333,565,459 in 2014 (Public Health Thrust of Miami-Dade, 2015, p. 17).
In times of uncertainty and failure I believe that a transformational leader would inspire performance and creative behaviors in their employees to meet the emerging needs of their organization. I believe that the transformational leader would have the ability to motivate his or her employees and inspire them to trust and be loyal employees. Additionally, I think that a transformational leader would continue to maintain daily operations and continue to stimulate their employees to perform with confidence to achieve the goal and meet the standards of the organization.
The health care organization covered is Jackson Health System in Miami, Florida. With over 2500 beds, this is one of the largest health systems in Florida and its flagship Jackson Memorial is one of the largest in the country. There are a number of strengths and weaknesses that will characterize the strategic direction that the organization will follow. Among the strengths are that Jackson has a large geographic footprint with Miami-Dade County, it has the financial backing of the county, that it has a diverse workforce, its relationship with medical school at the University of Miami, its leadership, and the multiple clinics and specialized services that it offers.
I have six years of solid, in-depth experience in operations management. Outlined in my resume, you will see that the depth of my experience offers you the opportunity to hire a seasoned professional -- one who can begin being productive at once. Your advertisement for a Chief Operating Officer caught my eyes immediately and I am excited about potentially sharing my experience, knowledge, and energy with Jackson North Medical Center.
Healthcare is evolving, and the uses of technological innovations are reshaping the delivery of healthcare services. Adoption of mobile applications for electronic health (e-health) can assist patients and providers monitor or track lifestyles activities that may indicate a change in health behavior or provide approaches to address future health challenges. As new technologies emerge, it is vital that healthcare professional scrutinize these innovations to extract useful resources that can help address challenges such as high hospital readmission for dual eligible patients. A proposal to help Trinity Health System decrease its readmission rate is to implement a hands-on e-health literacy model program for dual eligible patients and their caregivers
For this reason, leaders are culpable for the perceptions of any potential alteration efforts. They should endorse the change as an occasion for employees to enhance their skills and offer guidance after implementation (Nelissen & van Sale, 2009). Not to mention if every meeting begins with communicating the vision of the company, it can advance ownership and pride that will lead to success.
Fortunately, we do utilize computerized charting as well as the physician order entry system, but there is room for improvement in our home health organization. Epic home health is the system that we utilize, unfortunately, internet service is required to sync/update patient information. In order to review previous nurse, physician notes, and lab/test results internet service is needed. Many of our patients live in rural areas where cell phone service and internet service is not available. Therefore, we must often wait until we return to the home health office to find the patient information we need and to submit our charting. I am grateful our organization utilizes computerized charting, but often it is difficult to communicate with other healthcare providers or pull up pertinent patient information while in the field. Certified nursing assistants, nurses, physical therapists, social workers, and case managers are all required to use the same charting system, using the same system does improve communication within the organization. Nurse Managers review our charting on a regular basis and provide staff members with feedback and updates if changes are made in the computerized system. Also, technical service representatives are available 24-7 for employees to assist with questions and to address technical issues regarding
In today’s business world, one of the most important contributing factors to the overall success of an organization is the effectiveness of their leadership. Effective leaders carry with them a strong skill set along with a broad knowledge base gained from experience that allows them to effectively and efficiently manage change initiatives. An organization that possessing an effective leadership team is more likely to experience success, especially it comes to creating effective change. The leaders’ role is crucial during a change
One reason I selected the Temple University Health System campus in Philadelphia is because of its affiliation with the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Recognized as a comprehensive cancer center, Fox Chase is committed to innovating cancer treatment through its Molecular Therapeutics Program. I am particularly interested in Dr. Jian Q. Yu’s research. His work in diagnostic imaging of various tumors using radiotracers intrigues me because I synthesize similar novel tracers to image colorectal and breast cancer cells using SPECT and PET imaging at Hunter College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). When I think about my future medical career, I imagine one involving specialized patient care, in radiation oncology, and research, in cancer
In order to move forward and keep ahead, I believe an organization need change leaders who have capabilities to have their workforce go from change avoidance to change acceptance. “One of the most significant strengths of an effective leader is the ability to create a positive work climate where people are energized to do their best work, free of unnecessary distractions” (Cronkite, n.d.). During this part of the change process I feel the change leader would have better success if he would be tactful and harness the skills of others by working in a collaborative rather than hierarchical way. Leadership in an organization involves instilling motivation and enthusiasm in the employees. An effective leader knows how to manage and tackle difficult situations and people. Many reasons can cause a force of change in organizations but I feel it’s up to change leaders to manage these planned and unexpected changes. (Word count: 548)
Transformational leaders have the ability to take diverse talents and viewpoints in any organization and meld them together into a cohesive, focused and highly effective force to accomplish challenging goals and objectives. The intent of this analysis is to evaluate theories of innovation and change from a leadership perspective in the first section, followed by an analysis of experiences, and finally a self-assessment of leadership skills.
Eric Reis, a successful entrepreneur, stated that successful companies in the future is need to fast adapt by practicing continuous deployment of idea, planning and more experimentation, ie creating organizations that have the ability to cultivate, test and materialize new ideas (Heskett, 2013). So, in terms of the large scale innovations like what Apple went through, transformational leadership was necessary.
The impact of leadership style in the change process of an organization influences the performance; Leadership as stated by Martin, Liao and Campbell (2013) remains one of the most consequential contextual influencers of employee performance. Latson (2014) elucidated that some leaders may have the best intentions, but the impact will not be in alignment with the intension. But leadership trait is the ability to inspire, motivate and engage the followers to make the inspired vision happen beyond their normal capabilities (Mendez, Munoz & Munoz 2013). A change is the most frequent phenomenon of today's reality and a good understanding of how to manage the change process is very essential; Change is translation from one state into
I have been employed and attending clinicals in Winter Haven Hospital since 2011, the first year they changed from paper-charting to electronic medical administration record (MAR). As a newer nurse, the electronic and informatic aspect has been a part of my daily practice and routine. I also work with nurses who would prefer paper-charting. They believe it to be faster and less redundant. I was able participate in the implementation of newer charting software in 2015, and most recently last year, an intravenous pump program and vitals recording program.
