I believe at one time or another, we have all been the victim of a form of gossip, backbiting, or betrayal. When victimized by slander, gossip, or backbiting happens, emotions shudder in mazes of hurt and anger. Negative emotions selfishly nudge a place to overwhelm the mind and heart, lacking merciful speech practices. The agony which is delivered as a result of the union of lies and deceit, becomes multiplied, in situations, when the offender, act as if they did, or said, nothing to warrant a wounding reaction from the intended victim.
WetWind Alternatives Corp (WWA) produces electricity through alternative methods such as wave and wind turbines and owns two subsidiaries, Kahuku Wind Inc. and North Shore Wave Electric Inc. (NS Wave), on the north shore of Oahu, HI to utilize the resources of this geographic location in their business venture. Deloitte’s Case 13-06 – “Natural Irony: Accounting Considerations When There Is a Natural Disaster”, discusses a hypothetical scenario where a volcanic eruption causes massive damage to the subsidiaries’ operational assets and poses the question of how to properly record these occurrences in financial statements. The main issue is that Kahuku Wind and NW Wave’s fiscal year end is October 31st so that WWA can have complete
“Invitation to Murder”, a suspenseful tale, composed by Josh Pachter unravels the murder of Gregory Eliot Abbott using situational irony. Contrary to the outcome of what the intended meaning in a situation exemplifies situational irony. Starting off with the name of the story, the title itself represents situational irony. Unexpectedly, Eleanor Madeline Abbott demised as well as Gregory Abbott. The sleuths and detectives predicted Eleanor attempted to eliminate Gregory with the amber bottle; although, it contained medicine to keep Gregory. Utilizing the blockage of the prescription, Eleanor manipulated it as a blame. Not noticing the unique technique Eleanor maneuvered, the witnesses lead her into a death penalty. Along with the bottle, it
As human beings, we experience many different emotions everyday. However, there is one emotion that can lead us to lie to both ourselves and others. Although many people experience situations differently, we all have come across this emotion. It can make one angry and aggressive. This emotion can also cause one to lack self-esteem and even cause one to experience suicidal thoughts. This emotion is known as guilt. Guilt is shown as a recurring theme in both Fifth Business and in Hamlet.
Newspeak is the official language of Oceania. Newspeak is spoken in english, the only difference is Newspeak eliminates as many words as possible that could have anything to do with freedom or thought. For example, words such as “splendid” are replaced with words like “plusgood”. The aim of newspeak is to gradually get rid of all concepts that are unimportant or irrelevant to the Party. They strongly disagree with synonyms and antonyms because it broadens the range of thought in citizens, leading to more freedom, which is exactly the opposite of what they want to do.
For this paper, it is necessary to distinguish several of those forms, which vary in severity. First, there is the simple white lie, which is defined as “a trivial lie that is told for diplomatic or well-intentioned reasons.” These are typically inconsequential responses made in an effort to preserve one’s feelings, such as in the cliché case of a spouse asking, “Do these jeans make me look fat?” They rarely have any lasting effect, and are, for this argument, considered moot. On the other side of the scale is the outright lie, also known as deception, which is “a sender intentionally trying to get someone to believe something that the sender knows to be false” (Gass & Seiter, 1999). These lies are the sort that have most often garnered scorn, as they are typically malevolent (or at the very least, selfish), and utilized to serve a personal end. We will see that this is not always the case, but for the sake of argument, the “outright lie” will begin as an evil. Lying, as a whole, is perceived negatively, because it is most commonly used in negative instances because the sender wants to protect themselves from pain and embarrassment. It is the attempt to avoid punishment or retribution that spurns most people to lie, and therefore, the concept of speaking such an untruth became associated with the consequences of something injurious, and is frowned upon. The
Throughout the short story “The Interlopers”, author Saki demonstrates a powerful lesson through the mistakes of the two main characters, Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym. These two men are divided by a property disagreement and lust for the other to give up the fight, yet neither are in the slightest willing to part with the land they claim as theirs. If either of the men would have forgiven the other, they would have been united as friends and allies. But each is fixed on his own material gain, and is blinded to his fatal flaw. As a result of their feud, both men meet an untimely end. In the end, friends that can be trusted make a man stronger than property he can use.
You’ve said it, the thesis is very important part of an essay. Although it is a bit of a challenge for me, I did learn a lot about how to keep the thesis flowing with the rest of the essay. Smarthinking tool is also a great resource. It has helped me with my organization and thesis of the essay. I hope that with the knowledge I received my writing will improve. I also like the paperrater site as well, it does give a lot of
In the ghastly and gruesome story “Cask of Amontillado,” by the descriptive and creative writer Edgar Allan Poe, the author regularly utilizes irony to create suspense in an unforgettable tale of vengeance, both in the beginning of the story when Montresor coaxes his unwary fellow nobleman, Fortunato, to join him to find a rare barrel of Amontillado, and later when Montresor and Fortunato toast to his “long” life. Montresor is a nobleman that is clever, critical, insincere, vindictive, and solicitous. His plan is to get revenge on Fortunato by luring and eventually killing him in the extensive catacombs underneath Montresor’s palazzo. The reader knows that, “[Fortunato] did not perceive that [Montresor’s] smile now was at the thought of his
A strongminded man who has everything going for him, nice job nice car, great friends, etc. comes home every night to a sick mother whom he takes care of after a long day of living a lavish life. His one weakness is his sick mother because she taught him everything. No one, not even his best friend knows about his other life and so that 's how he keeps it. Oh the irony right? Big strong man afraid to live his truth in fear of change and facing his reality. In The Metamorphosis, author Franz Kafka speaks on a character name Gregor, who somehow manages to transform into a hideous insect, and the ironic life he lives. During the story Gregor has a family whom he cares for, a job as a salesman, and a lack in
There are many ironies with Juana and Kino and there baby Coyotitio. One of the first ironies has to do with Juana. Juana is Coyotito's mother. A mother is supposed to take care of her baby. Since Juana is Coyotito's mother, she was supposed to take care of her baby.
¨Richards was to late. When the doctors came they said she died of heart disease - of joy that kills.¨ This is an expert from the Kate Chopin story The Story of an Hour. The plot to the story is one of massive irony. A woman is told that her husband has died in a train accident. Instead of doing what is expected she is happy to hear that he has died. She proceeds to have this joy and she adopts a new look on the world, one of freedom. In a twist ending her husband shows up to her house, not dead and completely unaware that there was even an accident. The wife, Mrs. Mallard then dies of shock that he hasn’t died. There are two types of irony in the story, situational and dramatic.
I know why i was laughing, but why did she start laughing? I barely made it to the bus before it left and there was only one seat left next to this girl that I did not know at the time. Her name was Lorrain. When I sat down, she just looked out the window. The bus started to move and she still was just looking out the window. After like two minutes or so, I remembered the last time that I set a bomb off in the bathroom. That's when I started laughing uncontrollably. Not at anyone on the bus or to something that someone said but the look on the guy’s face who got in trouble for what I had done.I was not even remotely thinking about what other people would think of me laughing for no reason, Let alone the random girl next to me. I had seen her before a couple of times, but I did not know her at the time. I kept laughing. I could not stop. It was not even that funny but I could not stop laughing.
Assess the patient’s ability to cooperate in activities of daily living. If she is not able to get out of bed then provide bed bath to prevent infection and improve blood circulation.
Two brothers playing with a toy is an example of this. The older of the two has a toy which the younger brother wants and the younger brother desiring the toy lashes out. The younger brother did not necessarily do this with the intention of hurting the older brother but in an attempt to get the toy, he scratches his brother. The older boy, instead of discussing the problem and finding a way to share the toy, goes to his mother. The older brother uses the harm to shame the younger brother in front of their mother and gets the toy. The older brother who was hurt has turned that hurt into a weapon against the younger child and this serves to only increase the ill will between them. It is mimetic desires that drove the younger brother to try to attain what the older brother had. When he tried to get the object that he longed for, he caused his brother harm. Instead of being told how he had hurt his brother, so that he could understand why he should not lash out, the younger brother was shamed and a longer lasting resentment begins to form between the brothers. It is important to be careful when addressing harms done so that the party causing the hurt is not ostracized. Reconciliation cannot happen while the parties are attacking each other. If the harm is used as a weapon against the offender to make them feel guilty, it only causes more harm. Even the term “offender” is damaging. If your brother causes you harm, do you call
Southern gothic literature is known for the irony it produces, how it can derail an entire story, and take the reader for a ride. Southern gothic literature’s definition of irony deals with the history of the south. The irony that is shown in Stown is the tattooes on John's body, but also the fact that the Burt’s ended up buying John’s property after he had passed. Irony in Stown is to keep the reader interested and has them wanting to find out more. Throughout the podcast, many things are thrown our way, the irony of those things make it that much more interesting. Some things stand out more than others for the characteristic irony. One that sticks out like a sore thumb to most readers is the fact the John loathed tattoos but was completely covered in them when he passed away. Brian once caught a flash from John of his chest and he then begins to talk about tattoos, “The entirety of John's chest is tattooed, and his shoulders too, though it's all perfectly covered when he's wearing a t-shirt. The flashing is quick, so I can't take it all in, but I see a glimpse of what's possibly a beaker and maybe a clock-type thing. It takes me aback, because John has made clear to me how much he loathes tattoos. They're one of the things he hates about Shittown. I believe he once called them "an expression of hopelessness." Doesn't compute.” John has mentioned a few times that he hates tattoos and everyone that has one is a low life. He knows that most people have them, and openly talks
