The Importance of Technology

Technology provides students with easy access to information which otherwise would be difficult to obtain. Before technology, students had to read a book in order to look up what they needed. This would take hours, sometimes days. According to Edmund J. Gleazer School of Education, “Students can look up specific information or questions from a teacher, find answers, and do more research without even leaving their desk” (Edmund J. Gleazer School of Education). Technology provides students with a wide range of libraries and sources to enrich their learning.

Technology can be broadly defined as the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes mostly in industry. Its application in various industries includes the information and media technology, agriculture, education, construction and transport. Technology allows us to perform complicated tasks in our daily lives and ensures efficiency in production. Technology has been advancing in astounding ways in recent years especially due to progress achieved in computing and it can only grow even more in the future. Although authors have different views on this broad topic, they are important as they help paint a picture for society on how technology will evolve.

In the article “Technology Changing how students learn, Teachers Say” many different surveys and experiments were constructed to see what the response were toward technology changing the way we think. As stated “roughly 75 percent of 2,462 teachers surveyed said that the Internet and search engines had a “mostly positive” impact on student research skills” (Richtel).This means that majority of the teacher do agree that the internet is making a positive effect on the children. Using technology in the educational field is a different approach on how the student my able to learn or grasp the whole content of that topic or subject. The internet doesn’t only help out with the student learning but it is already help the teacher. Through the internet they can exam the progress of class by averaging out the online homework or test that may be given out to the class.

As technology has progressed over the years, it has become a greater source for information. Students should be able to use it to their advantage.

Technology is the crucial factor for education sector to maintain all the data and information more effectively and efficiently. Technology can help students in all areas of study. Furthermore, the use of technology, mainly the internet, provides for variation since “Students find themselves bored and burnt-out of the lecture format to classes, so changing the curriculum and instruction to include things like online assignments and educational videogames can be one clear remedy” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Teachers who have implemented technology into their classrooms have noticed changes in their students. The most common of these effects being an increase in motivation. Due to the easy availability of the information to both the student as well the teacher, there is a balance of power between the student and teacher. The process of giving as well as receiving feedback helps both the teacher and the student. The student can give constructive criticism to the teacher. Technology is said to be usage of knowledge of various tools, techniques and other sequence of mathematical coded electronic instruction by man to fabricate a model to solving problems or to improve upon preexisting ones. Also, one may just say it is an application in which human apply to solving problems. As the world keep changing, so do technology. Today technology has inspired a lot of change into the way we do things or relate to certain problems. We will all agree that, we cannot talk about technology without mentioning inventions. Most importantly, it is an undeniable fact that, all the sophisticated gadget we see around were invented through the application of science and technology. Some of these gadgets such as cell phones, computers, tablets, etc. have indeed made life so easy to operate and also help in creating non existing jobs. Burkhardt, M. E., & Brass, D. J. Across the U.S., technology used in education has been increasing exponentially. Every learning institution ranging from elementary school to college have incorporated technology into their teachings. Online textbooks, quizzes, notes, and classes are all examples of how education has been utilizing technology. While technology has a place in education, not everything in education needs to involve technology.
