I am a runner. One who strives for greatness at every moment and doesn’t give in when things get tough. I have aspirations, dreams, and goals which I will stop at nothing to achieve. Unfortunately for me, the life of a runner is filled with challenges and setbacks and only the best will learn to push through the adversity. My defining moment was the summer before my Junior year, 2016. I had set the goal of becoming All-State in Cross Country, meaning placing in the top 25 of all the runners in the state meet. For example, lemon tartes are one of my favorite desserts, but making the tart crust is extremely complex. I spent hours attempting the crust but kept failing. I was getting discouraged and was at the point of defeat. However, I gathered myself and tried again a few hours later and the crust was a success! Having been a Cross Country and track long distance runner in high school I always had the dream of running and completing a marathon. The perfect example of me succeeding and failing a goal at the same time occurred in March 1990 when I ran the Los Angeles city marathon. When I entered the race, my goal was to finish in 3 ½ hours running 8 minute miles, not completing the race had never crossed my mind. My training had been going fine until approximately six weeks before the race I pulled a groin muscle and was unable to run anymore but I was able to maintain my conditioning through other activities.
