Telehealth is an innovative approach to health care that is rapidly expanding in all areas of patient care. It has been shown to be cost effective and is rapidly being integrated into everyday practices from clinics, hospitals, court systems, school systems and even the local drug store.

There is an interest in the benefits of telecare health care services, especially among patients who require hospice care. It is projected the number of elderly and terminally ill patient will continue to increase in the near future. Telecare is not a new phenomenon in the health care industry, it has evolved into an important aspect of health care and hospice. Thus, some of the important challenges facing the telecare team and the individualized field team included: inadequate knowledge on evidence based practices, lack of professionalism, and poor teamwork. The purpose of this essay is to assess three challenges faced in Telecare and apply my professional growth as it relates to these challenges. As I relate my co-op experience to the RN-BSN program I have noticed significant changes in my behavior and skills after the program. I have enhanced my knowledge on evidence based practices, I conduct myself in a more professional manner, and I have expanded my interpersonal skills to effectively work with interdisciplinary teams.

UC Davis examined more than 19,000 medical encounters from 1996 to 2013 to explore the benefits of Telemedicine and virtual visits. The study found that savings translate beyond simply saving money. Patients also saved time, experienced less stress and had easier access to their doctors. The UC Davis study, which looked at both inpatient and interactive video consultations, found collective savings of almost nine years of travel time spent driving five million miles and approximately $3 million. Per-patient savings averaged $156 related to travel expenses and about four hours of time of the road.

For example: people staying in the mountainous areas or islands can get medical services right at their home with the help of smart devices or patients who cannot go to the hospital for some reason.
