“The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read, “wrote Mark Twain. No matter what part of the world, the different cultures and languages, there has and always will be the written form that must be read to understand our human counterparts and history. Reading can be traced back as far as 3100 BC with content written on limestone and still very much used to day with technology as simple as a text message. The most commonly used language both spoken and literary around the world is English. Growing up in Jamaica, my first experience with literary content was a mixture of English and Patwa, which is a Creole-based language with a predominate English roots. I have been fortunate enough to receive the education necessary to be able to communicate and advance in today’s world through reading and writing. My encounters with words and memories have vastly shaped my academic life. As a child, the first experience I can remember was reading and writing would be my mother teaching me to write my nickname “Tanisha.” The step above that would be my home address in Jamaica and this was important so that I would always be able to know how to get home if I was lost. At times I would either be read or read myself fairytales and children stories, and I remember vividly one book in particular named Sweet Sweet Mango Tree by Diane Browne. Going to school I learned to understand rudimentary words and grammar advancing each year with more knowledge as we
Learning how to read and write was a challenging task for me as a kid. I believe I couldn’t read until the second grade and that was embarrassing. Being a slow learner made me insecure, which hindered me from building the confidence I needed to succeed and get pass identifying with having a disability. Instead, I was enrolled into a special ed class that I had to leave my regular class to attend. During my special ed class all I could think about was how I couldn’t wait to get back to my regular class so I didn’t have to tell any of my classmate where I was. Therefore, my focus unfortunately wasn’t on learning, like it should have been!

IT is traditionally around first grade when children are taught to read in school. Some children catch on before this with the help of parents, and others are slower to read at expected levels and speeds. I can say without hesitation that my mom sent me on the path to be a reader. My mom is an elementary school teacher and so she started to read to me at a very young age. I have memories of listening to her reading everything from Love You Forever to Little Woman and lots in between. I am fortunate that my mom read to me so much because I picked up reading before going into kindergarten, starting with Goodnight Moon. 1st grade. Taught to read. Had to read for class. Harry potter and the sorcerer's stone, would read on own time, with help from mom. Before this it had primarily been listening to people read to me, small picture books like goodnight moon.
My company is a famous fruit dealer which has over 20 fruit physical stores all over New York City. We provide different kinds of fresh fruits to our customers with the best service. However, we noticed that our sales in winter experience a serious decline last winter due to the extremely cold weather which might make our clients reluctant to step out of their house and but fruits in our store. Therefore, the company is addressing some technology and business changes that will force me to sell things through the internet because in this way we can deliver fruit to our clients who could place their orders online. However, the company has never been involved in the online sales before which means no experience or whatsoever. Thus, the question becomes: How do I establish an analytics team to test this idea, and then implement it as a production system?
Undoubtedly, reading and writing are two of the most useful and important things that people can learn. Through reading and writing, we can feel or transmit our knowledge, thoughts, and feelings. In fact, reading and writing we can learn to educate ourselves and even entertain ourselves through books, magazines, newspapers, etc. However, learning to read and write is not easy. I have had one main problem in my English class with reading. Which, I already overcame. In fact, it helped me to understand the importance that reading has through my first three essays and, to grown to be a better reader and writer.
Reading and writing are both important; you can’t have one without the other. They are skills that are increased constantly due to little things that most times are not noticed. Whether it is from a book to a poem, there will always be a way that it helps out your school performance. Reading and writing in general only helps absorb information, and enhance leisure or school related writing tasks. It has also made life itself so much easier because reading and writing are so beneficial for school and for life. How much you read and write today, will somehow affect your future job, family, position, or even your salary.
Reading and writing are two of the most important tools in my life, because without them I would not have an education. They form the basis of a class; for example, completing a lab in chemistry would not be possible without following a written lab procedure. These two skills are taught at such a young age, and as education advances students must continue to strive to reach a higher level. I can remember in elementary school, we were always pushed to reach the next reading level once we had successfully mastered the one we were on. It was always a competition for my sister and I to be at a higher level, I usually won. Even though I was excelling in reading it was the complete opposite for writing. It is something that has never come easy
Reading has always been something I have enjoyed. I feel like reading takes some time to get to the level where comprehension and accuracy are equal. There are some good things that have happened to me because of reading and there are also some bad things that have happened because of reading.
As time goes on the familiarity with reading and writing is important for an individual to better themselves in life, for the world we live in is a place for competition between every human to succeed. As one gains knowledge through literacy, it can extend, toward one achieving their goals or achievements in life. The strategies when going over a reading assignment in a major part of what one is trying to comprehend the text.
If you couldn’t read or write, how would you tackle your daily life? Being literate is a crucial part of everyone’s life; reading and writing are essential for a person’s success. Every single day, it’s used, whether it’s for an Advanced Placement Language class or reading a billboard as you’re driving past. As a child, I grew up reading on a daily basis and I believe that I am as successful as I am on behalf of it. Countless memories have been created, thanks to the multiple books that have been read and the umpteen amount of papers that I’ve written. Throughout the numerous years of my education, my teachers and parents left a long lasting impact on my reading and writing skills.
From a young age, reading and writing has always been important to me. It began with a children’s book about a bumblebee my mom repeatedly read to me to make me believe anything was achievable, even a bumblebee flying. Once I learned how to read for myself, a whole new world opened up to me with every story imaginable. As TV became the prevalent pastime before and after school, reading faded to the background, a thing of the past. However, writing continued to be something I did often, especially in school, where it was introduced to me in third grade. Eventually my writing had to evolve from creative and fictional to analytical and persuasive. I had to learn new skills and essay formats, proper grammar and spelling, and no longer felt the enthusiasm I once felt with creating a story of my own. Previously, my best work came when I had the freedom to write without regulation.
As a learner, writer, and a reader I consider myself to be strong. In my opinion, these traits add up to create a good English student. Over the course of this year, I have improved greatly as a student and as a learner. Comparing new works of this year to older works I composed at the beginning of this year, I believe that I have not only evolved as a writer, but as a reader and a learner as well. I strongly believe this has been one of the most improved years of my Language Arts career.
Two foundations of being a human include being able to comprehend and understand words when reading, and writing. It is very human to express thought in a physical way on paper, and send thoughts back to other people. Reminiscing the past events that led up to the current reader and writer I am today is really interesting because I am able to understand how I thought when I was younger and it also shows the development of my writing. This is especially easy for me to see my own development since my previous school has kept a record of essays I wrote several years ago.
Reading is a developmental process that must be nurtured—grades Pre-K through grade 3. In fact, according to research, by the end of the third grade, if students are still poor readers, he or she will most likely struggle to understand what is taught in later the grades—I can attest to this (Ramos & Murphey, 2016). Growing up, reading has always been a challenge for me. Today, I consider myself to be a struggling reader. At times, I find myself saying the following: “I love words and to write; however, I hate to read.” This statement may be shocking to you, the reader, but the reality is that while growing up, especially at home, I did not have a literacy-rich environment. I did not grow up around books. Thus, I, Kevin Christopher Cataldo,
Writing has never been something that I have really enjoyed or was particularly good at. Every year I have been required to take an english class and it has always been one of my most challenging classes, especially if it involves a lot of writing. One reason I never really got better is that I only wrote when I had to for a class. Outside of school or my english classes I would avoid writing as much as possible because I really didn’t enjoy it. However the main reason I hated it was because I wasn’t very good at it and it always just seemed very tedious. Over the years I have started to improve at writing slowly and it has become less of a dreaded thing. This class has been one of the most helpful in teaching me actually how to structure and craft a good essay. I was going to take advanced comp as recommended by my sister but I’m glad I took this class because I got a lot more instruction on writing than I would have in advanced comp. Before this class I didn’t have a lot of writing skills other than basic stuff that wasn’t enough to really make quality essays that I was proud of. And even when I liked an essay that I wrote it usually had flaws that came from me just not being an experienced writer. Coming into this class I had lots to work and improve on and over the course of the semester I feel like I have improved and learned a lot. My first essay was far worse than my last few and it has been mainly due to practice and more knowledge that I gained in this class.
