In the book, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the idea of protection people seems important. This seem important because it came up twice in the same chapter, and it also seems important because the character is behaving strangely. This may also lead to a theme. The first example is when Phoebe's mom is going out to get some things. It says here in the text, ¨If we heard any noises at all, we were supposed to call the police,we were supposed to call the police immediately. ¨After you call the police,´ Mrs. Winterbottom said, ´call Mrs. Cadaver I think she´s home today. I´m sure she would come right over.´¨ Mrs. Winterbottom is showing protection over Phoebe and Sal, it's not like her to say call the person who might have killed someone
The definition of child protection is the process of protecting individual children identified as either suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm because of abuse or neglect. The term child protection is increasingly being replaced by ‘safeguarding’. Safeguarding has been described as; ‘a broader definition of the range of ways in which adults and professionals working with children need to act when dealing with child protection issues’(Ref: www.education.gov.uk/) Safeguarding refers to the prevention of harm to children and child protection is used more when dealing with policies and procedures following an event of suspected harm.
Today, the society’s lives and cultures are composed of many overlapping stories. A single story confines a corner of the world to a generalized stereotype. Chimamanda Adichie in TED talk, The Danger of a Single Story, addresses that “if you hear a single story about a person or a country we risk a critical understanding.” Adichie also states, “a single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not what they are untrue, but they are incomplete.” Adichie believes everyone is guilty in creating single stories and they are dangerous because they rob people from their identities and dignity. Diversity of stories and possibilities are things that should be read and discussed. Single stories are dangerous because they make the differences in people stand out and the single story an incomplete description.

Internal and External Forces: Phoebe Winterbottom “Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked two moons in his moccasins. ”-Sharon Creech. In the fictional novel, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, Phoebe Winterbottom struggled against both internal and external forces as she faced the fact that her mother was gone. According to Maslow’s hierarchy, safety needs are the first type of needs that must be met following physiological needs and include shelter and protection from harm (Maslow). These needs are extremely important for survival and leading a healthy life and to deny a child these rights, would be to condemn them to a life of pain and a struggle for survival. The irresponsibility of Rex and Rose Mary Walls has resulted in Jeannette Walls’s being denied the need of safety and will have a negative effect on her overall development and health. Moreover, Jeannette Walls has also been forced to experience sexual abuse. Similarly to Brian Walls’e experience, Jeannette Walls was not harassed by her parents and her parents did nothing to deal with the problem. Rather, she was harassed by a man at a bar while and her father not only did nothing to stop, but also encouraged
Had she called and told the operator that there was an injured man in her garden whom may be the man that they were looking for and in reality she had been imagining the whole thing, it would have caused the police to be wasting their time on nothing. The time that the police could have spent searching for the suspect of the crime would have been wasted on a figment of Carolee’s imagination. As a result, the suspect would’ve been found later than he was and since the man was injured, his condition could have worsened. If he had been given more time to flee the scene he could have found himself in a location that was more dangerous for the police, which in result would have made it more dangerous for him. If the police believed that the location was unsafe, or posed a threat to them, they may have opened fire on the suspect, ultimately giving him severe injuries or potentially death. There is no reason to risk putting several people in more danger just because of something she may have

It is important to safeguard children and young people because no one deserves to be abused whether it be emotional, physical, sexual abuse and no young person deserves to be neglected and we have a duty to protect them from harm.
This safety that should be given to her by her parents is nonexistent. Which will be a obstacle in the future she will have to face. The horrific attack that occurred in Patty’s life” was being raped”(Franzen
* Conduct a literature review (journals; text book, etc.) on the safe guarding vulnerable individuals (i.e. children; disabled; elderely) policy within health and social care settings and summarize its aims and objectives
Safeguarding children and young people is important as it extends beyond child protection and it includes more wide-ranging concepts. Safeguarding children and young people means we are protecting them from all sorts of harm such as accidents, deliberate abuse, neglect and even factors such as bullying, prejudiced attitudes and failure on allowing children to participate in different activities etc. The wider concepts of safeguarding means that we are protecting children from maltreatment, we are preventing impairment of children 's health or development, we are ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and also taking action in order to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes. Child protection is also an important part of safeguarding and promoting welfare. 'Staying safe action plan 2008 ' highlighted a number of areas that were of concern:
1.1 Analyse the differences between the concept of safeguarding and the concept of protection in relation to vulnerable adults
Safeguarding is the term that has replaced the term Child Protection. It includes promoting children’s safety and welfare as well as protecting children when abuse happens. It has only been developed in the past 50 years, and the need for improved legislation has been highlighted by cases such as Maria Colwell (1973) and Victoria Climbie (2000) as these cases showed weaknesses in procedures.
In the following short stories Eveline written by James Joyce, The Story of An Hour written by Kate Chopin, and A Rose For Emily written by William Faulkner we find that isolation is a popular theme throughout the stories. There are several factors in each one of the stories that makes us feel the isolation that each one of the women in the stated stories felt. Weather it is Eveline feeling stuck at home due to a request for her to tend to her family and resume the place of her deceased mother. Or Mrs. Mallard with her feeling that “it was only yesterday that she felt that life might be too long” (228). Along with Miss. Emily who seemed isolate her self form the word by closing her door for good. In the three
