To graduate from high school in New York, it’s a requirement for students to pass the english regent. I was scheduled to take mine in the middle of my junior year and I felt a lot of pressure. When it came to all of my english classes I hardly ever got a high average in the class. It wasn’t that I was bad at the subject or anything, it was just that I would score low on the assignments that counted the most. I would always get the same critique on my writing which was the fact I didn’t organize my writing properly and that I didn’t strike all the key features. Another factor that played into my low scores was the fact I never practiced my writing and took my assignments serious.
Coming into my junior year I knew I had to improve my writing by improving my writing techniques. My english teacher that year was Mr. Rivera, and his main focus for my class that year was to improve our writing. He gave us many assignments throughout the year that challenged students to actually brainstorm and use literary devices. The purpose of these devices such as metaphors, personification, and allusion are to give the reader a better understanding of what their reading and have a picture of what their reading in their head. To get a better understanding of these devices, he assigned us assignments where we had to read a text and identify the devices used.
One particular assignment I remember was when Mr.Rivera gave us some articles that we had to read and identify the devices used.
My relationship with writing is hard, my writing doesn’t always flow well. My writing also doesn’t always come easily to me. More often than not, I have to sit and think for long periods of time, for to come up with ideas on how to start my essays. When I start with paper and pen my hand will start aching, and that makes it difficult to concentrate on what I am trying to express through my writing as it takes my mind off what I am currently thinking of writing down. Writing is the course I have always struggled with the most throughout high school, and through my first year of college.
Pompeii was a great city in ancient Rome that was abruptly destroyed when the seemingly harmless and docile Mt. Vesuvius unexpectedly erupted destroying the city of Pompeii and the bordering city of Herculaneum. Before this tragedy struck Pompeii was a very wealthy city and a staple of Roman culture. Located just 10 Kilometers from Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii appeared to be nothing more than a wealthy city with a view of great mountain until its one defining moment in history changed everything. Where you could once find a beacon of life and culture you can now only find deserted buildings and plaster casts of the casualties caused by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. When the ruins of Pompeii were discovered we as a culture were exposed to a
In this past year alone there have been 23 shootings on college campuses, not including incidents that have occurred at other grade level schools. Innocent students and teachers have been injured or killed in each of these shootings. School shootings are not restricted to one geographic area; they are spread across the United States, from Arizona to Florida to every thing in between. There is no way to tell when or where events like this will occur, so many wonder how to prevent traumatic events like this. In the United States all 50 states have passed laws to allow concealed carry, but only under certain restrictions and mandates.
Writing is a skill that is used on a daily basis in different mediums: emails, texts, academic papers, and social media platforms. While some mediums are more formal than others, writing in a proper way is still critical. For some, writing is second nature while others face difficulties constructing the perfect message. Growing up, the concept of writing was much more enjoyable than physically putting pen to paper. I found value in the idea of being able to express myself through my writing, yet when it came to academic papers, I froze. This was due to the fact that my writing was being judged, and that elicited fear which, in turn, made me second guess my writing abilities. While attending community college, I was required to take an
The only way you can become better at doing something is simply by continuing to work on your craft. Whether it is a hobby, an interest, or a profession, if you don't keep working, then you will remain complacent. A year ago, I thought writing was one of those things where I would just be complacent in. Not because I didn’t wanted to work harder at it, but because I thought of writing as one of those skills that came natural to you, or you did not have it at all. I always wanted my writing to improve but never knew how.
four, my grandmother began teaching me the basics of reading and how to write the alphabet. The hours spent working with my grandmother influenced the love I have for literature. Although I have a passion for reading and writing, I feel this passion slowly fading with age. As I get older, I realize that reading does not seem as enjoyable as it used to be for me. Reading and writing has influenced my life in a thankful, a joyful, but also a slightly negative way.
Writing and reading for me started really young with me. I was learning to read and write before I was 2. My mom was teaching me and I had a Phonex person come to my house and would help. I was a year younger than almost everybody else in my kindergarten class. I was able to go into school younger because I scored high enough on a test I had to take. I was always reading books when I could when I was young which is why I was able to read bigger words than most kids my age could. I was able to read at a 4th grade level when I was in 1st grade. This all fell in place because my dad was always telling me to read and write when I had free time if I wanted to be better than everybody. When I was younger I always trying to be better
For me, this is the hard part. Starting out an essay that focuses on one topic, or something that I’m not particularly fond of. That’s one thing I really dislike about English, being limited on the topic, or being assigned a topic that you have to write specifically about. Writing is somewhat boring to me, and I don’t exactly know why, but starting it out feels almost impossible to me a lot of the time. Sometimes, writing is fun for me though. Once in a while when I write, I feel like I’m alone, everything drowns out, like smells and sounds. But when writing things, I prefer to try to challenge myself and continuously try to improve myself, the same with reading.
The ways in writing may be important to my career, academics and in the work place is that it is always needed or required. To be a teacher I have to write emails, letters and lesson plans. In the workplace I have to be able to write down a call-in. A call-in is when someone calls to place an order. Writing is very important without writing I would not be able to get through life because somewhere I would have to write something down. Being able to write is a critical skill for my life, career, academics and in the work place.
I am a 10 grader and as days go by school keeps getting harder than my ninth grade year but for me it's interesting to enroll many new challenging things like in english we can peruse many types of writing. I had to really challenge myself on reading it was gonna be difficult but i had to overcome it why? well because reading is not my passion or hobby i don't enjoy reading unless its a 100% attractive book. For example the book i read 5 times and only was “The Fault In Our Stars” it was a good amusing book. Other challenges i had was Reading the goldfish story i didn't really understand i had to go back to it that book really confused me.
Writing is one of the most important skills you can have in life. Being able to construct high-quality papers, among other things, is key. Not only to get a point across, but to accurately give information, or some just like to do it for fun. I write so that people can easily understand what the point is that I'm trying to get across. There are so many different forms of writing that people can utilize however they want to, whether it's for research purposes or for creative purposes. Being able to write well is a skill that can be utilized daily and can is very beneficial whether you have to write something for school, to write a resume and to type something up for a job.
Writing is something everyone has to do. It is needed in every field, no matter what job you end up with. It can be simple emails to complex lab research papers. Therefore, learning to write correctly is important. It is important to know based on the audience that it will change the way you write and what type of writing you will need to do. In English composition, this semester we worked on this quite a bit. Although, there are some areas in which I improved; there are still other areas in which I need to continue to improve in and have trouble writing as well. Therefore, I will cover some aspects of writing and what I need to improve in my own writing.
I have never viewed myself as a confident writer. When I write papers for school, I usually spend more time stressing about the paper as a whole rather than performing the actual writing. If my teacher were to ask me why I write, my reply would most likely be, “Ugh, because I have to.” But lately, I have noticed that I have spent a lot of time writing, the past few years, without the pressure of being graded. I learned that writing helps me somewhat organize my thoughts that seem to be chaotic and all over the place. I write from the deepest part of me, because I feel I have to.
The majority of muslims follow a peaceful and loving religion which makes the broad range is discrimination towards them immoral and unjustifiable. Although i began with biases against islamophobia, with further research i understand why there is a fear of the muslim religion but i still stand with my viewpoint that it is not morally right to discriminate against an entire community due to the actions done by extremist.Efforts are being done in order to end both racism and islamophobia. For example in North Carolina The Movement to end racism and islamophobia is a team of christians and muslims who tell their stories of how they have achieved religious tolerance. I would like to further research the effect the media has had on societies views
In my past academic career, I have found that writing essays and papers are one of my strong points. I like writing because it allows me to write down things, and put things together that might be harder to speak then write. The most difficult thing for me about writing is having to write a paper that does not have a page limit, a topic, or relatable subject.
