Teachers and professors ask students to do dissections to gain a better understanding of the anatomy of a subject and how it works. Students do dissections to get a hands-on experience that could be more efficient than a video or an image. A dissection allows the student to witness external and internal structures of an organism and see how the structures function together. Dissections also allow the students to see how species have evolved to better fit their environment (McNeil, 2017). 2. How can you differentiate between a male and female rat using external features? Using internal features? Explain the size of a typical rat litter using external structures of the female rat. Why are rat testicles so large? The differentiation between male and female rats on external features was the reproductive features of each rat. For the male rat, the large scrotal sacs were located at the base of the tail and the penis anterior to the anus. For the female rat, the vagina was externally located anterior to the anus and there were two rows of mammary papillae. Internally, the male rats have two testes, epididymis and vas deferens from the caudal end of the epididymis (http://www.publichealth). Internally, female rats have ovaries, which are posterior to the kidneys, oviduct, and a vagina. The number of nipples on a female explains the size of a typical rat litter. More babies can be fed because of the number of nipples on a female rat. Rats can reproduce up to 6 times a year
In a classroom setting, each student has a different way of learning. Physical and visual learning. Performing dissections enables those that are aimed more towards physical learning to get a more hands-on experience and to get a feel of the different textures, whereas the visual learners can get a three-dimensional imagery of the different systems and how they are arranged to work together.
For my experiment and to test my hypothesis I shall use rats as my test subjects. In the control group there will be 10 male rats. They are all 6 months old, same species of rats, approximately same height and weight. In the experimental group there will be another
The size and shape of the pelvis gives clues to how an animal may reproduce.
- Dissection led to performing autopsies on dead bodies to see what each disease did within the body, and also better understand human anatomy.
The fetal pig dissection was helpful for one to understand the body and all of the body’s functions. The procedures helped the students precisely do the dissection correctly. The questions that were assigned helped the students have a deeper understanding of the pig’s body. This dissection also helped the students become familiar with some of the organs in the body like the liver, heart, and intestines. All in all, this dissection was helpful in learning all about the body.
Dissecting helps students appreciate the complexity of organisms, by actually being able to come in contact and see up close instead of learning about it through a textbook. Students will become more involved if they are able to do something, rather than just listen as they will mostly not retain anything. Therefore, speaking from experience the dissection is geared more for hands- on learners, but, it enables all students to practice their observational and following instruction skills. Comparing notes with other students this dissection enabled everyone to come up with a better visualization of how all the organs are interconnected in the human body. Looking through the textbook at pictures does not give an
Various experiments and measurements were performed in the field in order to compare the two types of rodents. The following is a list of the data collected through multiple observations over a span of two years. We captured 100 rats of each rodent population, and we found the average weight, length, hind limb, and forelimb measurements. In addition, we conducted experiments in regards to their top speed, average height that they could leap, gestation time, and average time spent in the courtship display.
In The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel. The Vietnam Plays, Volume One, Slaughterhouse Five, and A Long Way Gone survival in war is portrayed from the ability to overcome extreme states of conflict and war through training, luck, and personal determination. All of these works tell the story of survival, though not all the protagonist survive. In The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel. The Vietnam Plays, Volume One, The protagonist Pavlo Hummel is trained to survive even after the opening chapter starts with his death. In Slaughterhouse Five the protagonist Billy Pilgrim survives through shear luck as he bumbles his way through the war and in A Long Way Gone the protagonist Ishmael Beah ends up surviving through his determination to leave the
UT Austin offers me a world of possibilities that I could only dream of. UT is already extremely erudite, so making an impact will be difficult. But I will tackle this huge challenge, because I know I can bring unique traits that are uncommon in this world. One of those being, I am very collaborative. I function well in teams because I can communicate with people honestly and positively. At UT I know these skills will help everyone learn more and learn faster. In the real world, all jobs are team oriented, so I know that my good teamworking skills will help other students learn how to communicate ideas. I learned most of my team working skills from robotics club. As part of our new member training, I led a group of new members in building a
3. Identify the histological features (listed below) of the major endocrine glands on microscope slides.
Compare and /or contrast the anatomy of the White Rat with that one of the Human body.
A great example of this is getting a degree; it might not be as important or beneficial to you to get a certain degree but the benefits that you could give the society with that degree can be significant, so the government creates scholarships and incentives to motivate you and make it easier for you to get an education and ultimately be part of the working society.
Rats are distinguished from mice by their size; rats generally have bodies longer than 12 cm (5 in).
Looking at male and females we can see the noticeable physical differences between the two sex, but besides exterior differences, there are subtle but significant differences within the brain. Spasificly INAH3 which is called “third interstitial nucleus of the anterior hypothalamus” which is typically about two to three times larger
