It is with the most discretion that I write about the events that I witnessed yesterday on January the 14th of 2016. Yesterday it was brought to my attention that one of our fellow employees has not been acting in a professional manner with one of Dr. Maung patients. This patient describe to me that she felt that she was not able to communicate with the employee in question, she also mentioned that she felt scared to speak or move because of the way our fellow co-worker carried themselves when doing the patient assessments. The reason I am weary from this is because I feel as though this is not the first time a complaint like this has been mentioned about this employee. Also I have become aware that other employees are not being held to the same standard of practice that I am being held to. There has been many accusations that I have been slacking with my work, that I have been …show more content…
I am becoming frustrated with this whole situation because I feel as though I am being decimated against because of my gender and race, but mostly because of my gender. I am also disgusted with the way some of the nursing staff speaks to the patients here in the cancer center. I noticed yesterday one of the nurses using abrupt tone with a patient who was confused and upset about their schedule time for treatment. This too has become an annoyance because it seems like no one corrects the nurses on their unprofessional behaviors and action towards patients and staff. I would like to make it clear that I am not an animal and that I should not be treated any lesser than any other employee of this hospital or department and if this matter is not dealt with I will personally follow the chain of command to see that it does. If in fact my request is ignored I will be filling a discrimination complaint with the department of
Two experienced nurses had been working at the Winkler county hospital for more than 20 years. In 2009, Ann Mitchell and Vicki Galle became whistleblower in the small town of west Texas. The nurses field an anonymous report to Texas Medical Board regarding to retaliation in the hospital. In the letter, the nurse stated the unsafe practices of Dr. Rolando Arafiles. The nurses were concern about the improper treatment to patient provided by Dr. Arafiles. Since. Dr. Arafiles tried to misuse his connections in order to save himself. Upon receiving the notice from the Texas Medical Board, Dr. Arafiles contacted his good friend and patient-Winkler county sheriff. Dr. Arafiles filed a complaint of harassment by the nurses to the sheriff. The sheriff started investigating the complaint and obtained the copy of the TMB report that clearly identifies that Mitchell and Galle had filed a complaint. Then, the sheriff obtained a search of warrant and seized each nurse’s work computer and found the copy of TMB letter. The nurses were charged with the third degree felony for misuse of official information to cause damage to the physician. However, the TMB disputed with District and County Attorney over the charges asserting that there was no misuse of official information in the state-governing agency. The complaint process allows anyone to report a physician for any unsafe, improper or poor practice including nurses. Since TMB is a government agency there was no violation of Health
Philly should have knocked on the door, before entering into patient`s room. She should have then greeted and introduced herself and the student nurse to Rudd. She should have then started the conversation by addressing him by his name. She should have also enquired about his pain. Philly should have finished her shift assessment and should have assured him that she will come back with the morning medications and then left the room. The behavior was very unprofessional.
Talking at me as if I am not a human being. I've been disrespected for too long." Before this writer could say anything else, the Clinical Director, Heather E. walked in to diffuse the situation. The Clinical Director explained to the patient about the clinic's policy and procedure as to why she cannot leave the building to smoke as she is conducting a 3 hour medical assessment due to her medication. The patient was in hysterical tear and share with the Clinical Director as to how things were in the past when patient were able to smoke for 5 minutes and come back to finish the assessment. The Clinical Director informed the patient that particular incident was not allowed and changes were made. Then the patient fuss about why she has to do the medical assessment, even though it was explained to her prior. The Clinical Director informed the patient that no one is forcing her to stay in the clinic and if she want to leave, she
University Hospital is a well known hospital with a level 1 trauma treatment center for the tri-county area of a northwestern state, the hospital enjoys the fact they are known for their promising reputation among healthcare professionals and the public they serve. Jan Adams is an OR supervisor that has been working there for ten years, as a professional she makes surgeons follow protocol as required and enjoys working with trauma patients. One Friday night, which is the busiest day of the week for the trauma department; the unit was notified that a helicopter was on its way with a 42 year old man who had been in a car accident. Shortly after the patient arrived to the trauma center, the resident and other medical staff noted that he was in very bad physical conditions, needed immediate surgery or otherwise he was going to die. The issue was that the on call surgeon had to be present during the surgery and had not yet arrived, but regardless of the matter and protocol they proceeded with medically treating the patient immediately. The concern is that in doing so they violated medical procedures and put the patients safety at risk, this lead to a long list of ethical issues for example, patient well-being, impaired healthcare professional, adherence to professional codes of ethical conduct, adherence to the organization’s mission statement, ethical standards, and values statements, management’s role and responsibility, failure
Another secondary issue is the weakened employee expectations and employee performance, which adversely affects good patient care as well. The person in charge of patient registration is unprofessional to staff and patients. The facility is not clean because maintenance is slow in performing assigned duties. The parking is unsafe and unattended. The staff lacks the motivation to perform well.
The discrimination suffered by the immigrant nurses in Ontario at the hands of their employers is an issue that should be addressed through policies or initiatives. Purpose: The purpose of this article was to document the complaints nurses of colour have lodged concerning their employer’s discriminatory practice; and to obtain the views and opinions of these nurses on policy changes and recommendations
Attached is my narrative of the event and I have also shared my concern is with Dr. Williams.

At the same time, workplace incivility happens between colleagues and between manager and subordinates, it is happening almost every day in healthcare settings such as in hospital and clinics where workers are directly uncivil to disrespect each other. For instance, when a nurse is deviant or does not follow the supervisor intensely because of differences in opinion or an act of retaliation when the manager is being rude, treating their staff with rough words, discourtesy, and lack respect to his staff, there are also times when the uncivil behavior is not intentional or
It exposes the hidden story of how and why the Justices from the Supreme Court ruled the way they did in 1973. For instance, when Justice Powell and Justice Rehnquist were being appointed to join the others in deciding this case it made the four liberals, on the Supreme Court already, fearful. This was because they though Justice Powell and Justice Rehnquist were going to side with the conservatives in this case. According to James Simon, who talked with Justice Blackmun, who was the one in charge of the decisions made in this case, stated that on June 1st Justice Douglas, who is a die-hard liberal, delivered a protest letter to Chief Justice Burger. He says that “Douglas refused to withdraw his dissent until Blackmun personally assured
The topic of this week had a few questions concerning officer discretion and the amount that officer could exhibit in the course of their job. Where does the line between officer discretion and obligation does began and end? The answer is about as clear as mud and varies depending on the interaction. After reading a post from a fellow classmate I was informed that he had the discretion to asses a warning citation in light of a teenager observed to by the officer breaking many traffic laws. He had the ability issue a warning in the event the teenager informed his father of the incident and his father gave the officer a call to verify. This was in total contrast to the traffic stop that occurred a few months prior that I witnessed. My girlfriend
Prevailing astuteness supports the fact that working in U.S. health care field in the 21st Century call for familiarity of the countless facets of health laws as they relate to dealing with medical professionals. Further, because U.S. health care administrators have to hypothetically work together with many levels of specialists beyond the medical profession, it is judicious that they are aware of any federal, state, and local laws that may be appropriate to their organizations. Consequently, their manner is also subject to the letter of the law. They must assess the value of their professional collaborations and be watchful of the insinuations and consequences of their choices. As the top health administrator at the proposed Well Care Hospital in Happy Town. Upon being hired, there was a pre-employment screening that involved a background check that was administered to check and see if there were any violations of hospital medical misconduct during the last five years. With the hospital in the last six months being under scrutiny for breach of medical compliance there was some training that had to take place including training in personnel conduct, as well as in inter-employee conduct with medical staff, nurses, and technologists.
So my norm violation will revolve around the work I do. Currently I am a Regional Safety Manager for a company named Hydrochem. As a safety manager, it is my job to make sure everyone has the knowledge, tools, protective equipment and training needed to perform their job safely.
The next step was that I went to the manager and discussed the problem at hand with her. Management was unaware that this was going on and a lot of the complaints of family members were not being passed on. Servile unannounced visits were made to the unit to observe these unethical treatments of the residents regarding this issue were brought forth. Astonished, of was being witness, magament started calling staff off the floor and dealing with them individually. This brought forth a lot of gossiping on who would rat out another co-worker and how could report someone for trying to do their job when they always worked short. However, they saw it I did not single report any reticular person it was the work ethics that I brought forward that were
The etymology of the word Discretion is rooted in the early 1300’s, stemming from Old French Discrecion or Late Latin Discretionem. Discretion is the noun form of the word Discreet, which is defined as the quality of being careful about what you do and say so that others will not be offended. Discretion’s Latin roots also define it as “to discerne: to separate or distinguish.” In my opinion this sentence refers to having the ability to be prudent, which is a great quality for one to possess because it helps build character. Discretion is also an integral part of developing interpersonal skills, which in turn leads to establishing relationships and shows that you are trustworthy. In this essay, I am going to delve deeper into why discretion is an important value to have, by starting with character composition.
