Reflecting on this course over this semester, there have been many lessons learned that will be valuable, as we enter the business world. Our first lesson was to learn to work together, as a team, to prepare a short memo, long memo, letter, and email for use in the business world. This is a lesson that will experience many times as we do our daily work. Punctuation and grammar are so important to present to the client and other organizations that we are professionals. It could mean the loss of a sale or acquiring new business. It’s like dressing for work; looking professional or unprofessional.
The panic of 1907 and the Great Recession of 2007-2009 has both been major economic events in the United States economic history. This paper compares and contrasts these two major events and enables us to understand importance of certain financial institutions and regulations during troubled times in the financial sector. In this paper, both panics of 1907 and 2007 are historically analyzed and compared.
In the video “The The Impotence of Proofreading” by Taylor Mali the purpose of the video was to give techniques to help students in the process of proofreading a paper. Also, it talked about the most common mistakes people make when proofreading a paper for example, just checking the grammar in the computer causes to do not catch all errors included in the paper. A better option to check all errors is to print the paper and make the corrections with a red pen which will be easier for the student to go back and make those changes in the computer.
This book is about the removal of Native American’s in the 1830’s by the government. The Indian Removal Act was approved by Andrew Jackson, and was brutally forced onto all eastern native American tribes. The Indians were forced to move out west and away from the land where they were raised. Horrific times in U.S. but beautiful observations of nature and the Indians interesting rituals were made by Jahoda. Influential, disheartening, and terrible tale of the American Indian removal from east to west. Jahoda points out the senselessness of removing the Indians from their native land and portrays Jackson as being ruthless and greedy. Specifically, this book goes into detail of everything they were put through by the white men. Many Indians died due to the harsh conditions, starvation, diseases contracted from the white men, and the violence from fighting. The Red Eagle incident was bringing in the gradual manipulation and removal of the native tribes because the Indians weren't united: the removal and relocation was made easier because of this. The exile to their new lands were brought on with fighting and death with little remorse by the military. The false promises and deception; the fighting among tribes contributed to the extermination. There were so few American’s that were white that truly wanted to help
About once a week I have to transfer a case to another Oklahoma County. I have to word process five letters and mail them to the correct county asking for permission to transfer the case. I also do judgement and sentences, which is the paperwork that is sent to the prisons for the inmates to do time in prison. These are very important and have to be correct because they are the proof of how much time the inmate will do and if they were incorrect, the inmate could do too much time or not enough time. My word processing and proofreading skills are very important and I use them daily.
Criticising one’s own written work can be challenging, but knowing how to do it properly can make it somewhat easier. In “The Maker’s Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscripts,” Donald Murray provides many useful tips on how and why you should always review your work after it has been completed. He first starts off by stating that, “when a draft is completed, the job of writing can begin” (pg. 56). What this means to me is that although you have completed your writing piece, you still have a lot to do in regards to revising, editing, and organizing, if needed.
After reading “The 12-Step Program to Good Writing” by Michael Gartner, my journalistic knowledge has been expanded and molded all thanks to a journalistic legend. However some of the knowledge came as a surprise. For example, in the second step, Gartner said to read everything including trash. I was taken back because I thought reading an awfully written piece would teach me to write like that. Yet his reasoning proved that it teaches you to identify why that piece is so awful, so you won’t make the same mistake. The second piece of advice I found shocking was in step seven which is to experiment. As a journalist, I thought you were supposed to have the same writing formulas for all articles, but Gartner begs to differ. He taught me to try
It’s never a good idea for a writer to be the only proofreader of their work. Before you click “submit” and send your application on its way, have at least one other person read it through for errors. More than likely they will catch things you
I use internal punctuation effectively, including the use of ellipses to accurately insert excerpts from sources.
Words are an essential part of everyone's life, from the time a baby is born words are encouraged to stimulate their growth because simply being able to say "milk" or "mama" provides the baby with a huge amount of power. In fact, they were even used to
The importance of college-level writing is a topic that is very much backed up and accompanied by facts and studies. Writing in the college-level is needed in order to master college work in any class. Basically all classes require you to more than likely submit some kind of research paper or essay. Writing for Learning to Improve Students’ Comprehension at the College Level by Fahad Alharbi as well as Luiza Costa Ribeiro, Writing Essays at College: Why it’s Important both go into detail on how important writing at this level is and all the skills learned for during and after college. As well on how you can benefit from them.
A skinny cat wearing a tall, long hat with a big bow tie always made me laugh and giggle as a little kid. I have fond memories of how excited I was when my mother or father would read me a Dr. Seuss book. While I was read a Dr. Seuss book, I would imagine myself as the main character and wonder if I would ever do any of the silly escapades that took place in the book or if I would ever wear the audacious outfits worn reflected in the book. As a young kid, I was constantly making messes and doing mischievous things around the house similar to those playful and teasing things told in the Dr. Seuss books. The excitement and thrill of my parents reading children stories to me with emphasis on expression of the characters truly engaged me in reading time. Reading and writing has had a major impact on me as it has helped me gain a comprehension of words, provided me the ability to visualize and imagine the story in my eyes, and has influenced my decision making.
My professional experiences thus far have enabled me to learn a great deal while reaching my
