Hobbits are peculiar creatures. They are short, barefooted, jolly folk who love to eat, sing, and be merry. However, they "have no use for adventures" (Tolkien 12) and prefer not to involve themselves with those that do. Bilbo Baggins, on the other hand, comes from a long line of rebellious hobbits, who craved adventure. Despite his introvert life, Bilbo cannot avoid adventure when it tumbles into his hobbit hole. The novel, The Hobbit, supplies a fictional account of the positive and negative outcomes produced by fluctuating self-esteem and the Law of Attraction throughout a young hobbits adventure through Middle Earth.
J. R. R. Tolkien 's novel The Hobbit is one of a kind. The novel revolves around the protagonist Bilbo Baggins and his journey not only of recovering the treasure from Smaug, but his journey becoming a hero. Through the main character Bilbo Baggins Tolkien changed my perspective on what a mythic hero is suppose to be. When the term “mythic hero” is brought up I visualize someone that is a stouthearted a warrior namely Achilles or Odysseus to be exact not a hobbit. A little friendly, good-natured, brilliant hobbit. To put it bluntly, he is the polar opposite of Achilles and Odysseus. Despite the fact Bilbo Baggins isn 't the typical mythological hero, in many ways he has the attributes of a hero. J. R. R. Tolkien ventured away from the archetypical hero we often see in Greek and Roman mythology.
One of the most frustrating issues to deal with when selecting a book for a large number of people to read is trying to accommodate the tastes and desires of each individual. The reality is, though, that this is not possible, especially as the groups differ more in taste and size. The Hobbit, however, does not fit into a strict genre of literature. There are elements are numerous genre’s included in the novel, such as traces of folklore and fairy tales, as well as Norse mythology and history. By not being limited to a single genre, this book has the power to appeal to a wider range of potential readers.
