Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit that enjoys a peaceful lifestyle. Hobbits like to stay indoors and smoke their pipes and they do not like socialize. Hobbits do not like adventure or socializing with unfamiliar creatures. When he was asked to go on the adventure with the dwarves, Bilbo was taken out of his comfort zone and into the world of a hero. Bilbo goes from hobbit to a hero when he helps the dwarves get out of jail, put everyone in a barrel ,and fights spiders.

As children develop into adults, certain events and time periods stand out as the reason for important changes in their character. J.R.R. Tolkien portrayed the main character of The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, as a child on his trip into adulthood. Throughout The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist, changes from a childlike hobbit to a fully matured hero. J.R.R. Tolkien divides the change in Bilbo's character into the three major part of the book, prior to the quest, during the quest, and after the quest.

The novel, due to its use of such characters as goblins, elves, trolls, giants, and others is in tradition, a fairy tale. The tale centers on a small hobbit by the name of Bilbo Baggins. In Chapters 1-5 in the novel The Hobbit, Many personality changes have occurred, Bilbo changed. You started to notice the took side more. You could notice that Bilbo’s personality changed as the story went on. As the story is progressing you start to notice that he changes. He gets more adventurous and less kept up at home throughout the story.

In the book “The Hobbit” written by J.R.R Tolkien, the theme ‘You will never know what you can achieve unless you try’ is clearly demonstrated by the protagonist, Bilbo Baggins.

Gandalf pays him a visit and puts a strange marking on his door. Those markings said, “Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable reward.” This is why the dwarves brought him on an adventure to find treasure and claim back the Dwarves kingdom from the evil dragon Smaug.

In the novel, “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien, main character Bilbo Baggins experiences an extensive change in his character throughout the novel. At the beginning of the novel, Bilbo has no care for anything in the world that is outside of the Shire. He is an independent hobbit who keeps to himself and lives an ordinary life in his hobbit hole. He then embarks on an extraordinary journey which opens his eyes to the world as he overcomes multiple obstacles. He proves that any individual can develop heroism when needed to complete a quest no matter who or where you come from. He possesses many characteristics that lead him to being a natural hero, he is courageous, intelligent and loyal.

Hobbits are creatures that are content with their routines and quiet , comfortable lifestyles . Hobbits love to stay in their hobbit hole , eat,smoke and sleep a lot .Hobbits don’t really come out they stay where they think it’s more safe. Bilbo changed from a hobbit to a hero when he helped the dwarves escape from jail, he put the dwarves in the barrells to go down the river, and he fought the spiders .

On his adventure he went through the road of trials where he kills a spider which gives him confidence. He took Smaug’s cup, during the road of trials, which awoken Smaug in an anger and made Bilbo look like a thief. Bilbo’s call to adventure (Tolkien 4) happened when the dwarves and Gandalf showed up at Bilbo’s house unexpectedly. Gandalf told Bilbo that they needed him to go on a journey with them to get the Arkenstone.

In the fantasy children’s novel The Hobbit, an army of fourteen dwarves go on an expedition across the land to retrieve the treasure of Smaug. Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist who falls under the spell of greed after discovering a ring that could make him unseen, travels through the cycle of somebody being part of a capitalist society. Despite Tolkiens hate for allegories, The Hobbit portrays a fantasy-stricken form of modern American Capitalism through the dwarves’ ventures and experiences faced along the way. Bilbo Baggins transforms completely from the character he was in the first chapter. Not only did he care less about gold and finding the treasure, but he had little interest in leaving his hole whatsoever.

In the movie “The Hobbit” the protagonist Bilbo Baggins lives the comfortable, dependable life that is expected of a hobbit living in middle earth. However, in the three-minute clip given, he begins the transformation from a predicable individual to that of a dynamic character who is ready to pave his own path to life. In regards to myself I live a life that has stability and routine. This stable routine is encouraged if not blindly pushed onto myself and every other teenager through our educational system. It is then expected, once finished high school, to acquire a form of secondary education. However, be that as it may I have decided to take my life into my own hands, much like Bilbo Baggins. His name was Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit who saved them all. He began as a simple, friendly hobbit with a great fear of anything adventurous, dangerous, or different. This was his Baggins side, his other side longed to adventure and explore. His need for adventure, the side his Bagginsness hated, was his Took side. Bilbo did not know how to balance everything, which you can imagine led to a difficult life. Soon, the answer to what side he had more of arose, an adventure with 13 dwarves who were on a mission to regain their home.

I chose this theme because at the beginning of the story, Bilbo is a person that only worries about himself and only focuses on the comforts in life; and is very introverted. Towards the ending of the story, Bilbo transforms into a hero due to the situations he encounters.
