Due to the high success rate of Oxfam, they now have over 90 stores all over the world and over 100,000 employees and volunteers. However that doesn’t include the people which participate in fundraisers: such as fun runs, festivals, cycling and running events to support the charity. The Oxfam Headquarters is located in Cowley, Oxford. As a multinational charitable organisation, Oxfam has many supporters, nevertheless, they still want to better themselves and help more people. As they’re a charity based organisation, their aim isn’t to make a profit but to make a lot of money which they will then spend on helping people.
Tesco and Oxfam are both huge global businesses who both sell products to the general public however are organised completely different. In this leaflet I will compare and contrast organisational structures of both companies.
These services are ongoing and have been going on for 70 years and have made Oxfam one of the largest charity organisations in the UK.
The British Heart Foundation is the UK’s Number 1 Heart Charity. Their vision “is a world where people don’t die prematurely from heart disease.” They were founded in 1961 by a group of medical specialists who wanted to give money to fund extra research to find out the causes of heart diseases. They were concerned about the number of people with Cardiovascular Heart Disease who were dying prematurely. They have been going for 53 years and have been helping people since then. They have been taking part in all events but the main one which is coming up in September is the Oxford to Cambridge Bike Ride.
If for example this was to change, and the volunteers and employees no longer agreed with mission statements, they would be less likely to volunteer meaning Oxfam would have less money to fund their cause, because they would have to employ more staff. They voluntarily help to run and operate the business, this is very helpful to Oxfam because it means they can save money, and invest in other areas of the business. The employees at Oxfam have a huge influence on the business because they give up their personal time because they believe in social justice.
In Edith Wharton’s book Summer the main character Charity Royall is the daughter of the most influential man in town and yet she doesn’t want anything more than to escape from her small town of North Dormer and her lonely father figure that inhabits it. Mr. Royall took her down from the Mountain when she was a child and has raised her as his own since she was young, but after the death of his wife he has resorted to drinking to heal his loneliness, and later in his weakened state turns to Charity to cure his loneliness. Though his first proposal could be seen as “disgusting” and “incest” in that he tries to enter Charity’s room while he is drunk, when he later asks her to marry him for the third time, he is clear headed and believes this is the best option for Charity. At first Charity is disgusted by herself for giving in to Mr. Royall’s advances, after a silent agreement between her and Mr. Royall in which she realizes he has no intention of making her do anything she doesn’t want to do, she realizes that this is the best outcome for her and accepts her fate.
Suppliers/donators influence Oxfam greatly. Without the public supplying Oxfam shops with goods to sell, the shops would fail and would not be able to raise money to support the charities work for third world countries.
The year of 1887 marked the beginning of United Way, which originated as Denver’s Charity Organization Society and expanded over 1,000 Community Chests in the late 1940’s (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, & McNamara, 2012, p. C19). Then in 1974 their campaign, in America and Canada, exceedigngly raised over $1 billion dollars; thus, causing for the creation of the United Way International so that many countries around the world may have the ability to construct similar organizations that will benefit their nations (Dess, et al., 2012, C19). United Way’s business consist of attracting large companies and
As Oxfam, being a not for Profit Company there is lots of advantages and disadvantages. One of them is that Oxfam has lots of opportunity to assist the community for example funds and volunteer work. Oxfam is a tax exempt meaning that they do not have to pay any tax. Also, registered non-profits have limited liability under the law when it comes to dept. the owner of the business are not responsible for the business debt. Non-profits also have access to government-sponsored and loans. A disadvantage of Oxfam being a not for profit is that the Fund development and fund-raising can be a challenge, particularly during an economic downturn and when unemployment rates are high.
Since its inception it’s spread to all parts of Australia to ensure optimum reach in local communities. OzHarvest Nourish training centres have been donated from corporate funders and are close to capital city centres and public transport hubs. Fundraising events are held at each capital city hub to assist with both mission exposure and both tangible and intangible products and services offered. Since training centres are incorporated into the food rescue warehouse and food preparation kitchens, this allows participants to also gain access and an appreciation of the OzHarvest
The ownership of Oxfam is that it is a charitable trust; therefore it does not have an ownership. However, it can fall under the voluntary sector because Oxfam is supervised by trustees who set up to provide a service to the wise community in order to raise funds and support those who are in need. If something was to happen to Oxfam, they have a choice to donate to another charity and keep the business running.
A study reports that the richest 1% of adults alone owned almost half of global assets in the year 2000. The bottom half of the world adult population owned barely 1% of global wealth. In a research by Oxfam International a report issued to The World Economic Forum that the richest 1% owns 48 percent of the global wealth. Later Oxfam reported that the 85 wealthiest individuals in the world have a combined wealth equal to that of the bottom 50% of the world's population. There is also an example or also an economic model which is the U.S.A. where the wealth distribution is almost the same and where the rich become richer and the poor poorer.
Currently, Goodwill is operating as a nonprofit international organization in about 15 countries. The organization has more than $4.8 billion in assets, an amount huge enough to enable it to attain its objectives and goals. In addition, the organization caters for more than 6 million individuals in terms of job training, employment placements, and other community services. The organization is best described as a social enterprise as well as an industrial project since it improves the lives of the needy by helping them meet their daily social and economic expectations (Funding Universe, n.d.).

Oxfam is a charity and has no ownership this means they create their own goals and amount of money to achieve to give straight to the cause.Whereas businesses have objectives and payments that needed to be added to how much money they need to make to pay their owners that help fund the business.Oxfam do need to achieve their aims as a charity so that they achieve their purpose.Oxfam need the following things to achieve their purpose as a business/charity.The first thing is a small workforce and many volunteers;Oxfam need this because it reduces their salary cost ,enabling them to give their earned money directly to the cause with no hold backs or bad impacts on the money.Secondly they have staff working out in the countries and communities
Confirmability alludes to the degree to which the outcomes could be approved by others, or put in another way; how objective are the outcomes. This may, for instance, be accomplished by giving definite descriptions of the methodology connected in the thesis to allow others to examine the thesis procedure. Also, the researcher can guarantee objectivity by taking an impartial position on the topic to evade potential personal predispositions.
