• A long time ago, on the island of Tahiti there lived Pele with her mother and father. With her fascinations with fire she accidentally set her home on fire. Pele's older sister Namaka was furious; she threated to teach Pele a lesson by flooding the entire island. The legend of Hi’iaka and Pele is a story of betrayal, jealousy and revenge. But also an explanation of the powerful effect of love and how it has no limitation. This myth also connects to the Reeves and Leslie family from their Hawaiian ethnic origin. The family comes from the Royal bloodline of Kauikeaouli or Kamehameha The Third. In their belief, the main Hawaiian spiritual protector is the Goddess Pelehonuamea (the fire Goddess) and they ask her for many different qualities to perpetuate their homeland and to keep the Big island healthy. Close your eyes and imagine this: an immense ocean, stretching far and wide, and when you look down, nothing but deep blue. Now imagine looking out into the sky, and seeing the faint outline of land rising in the horizon. These are the Hawaiian Islands. As you get closer, it looks like you’re seeing dark heads poking out of the water. As you arrive even closer so that the individual fronds of the palm trees are visible, you realize that they are actually dark heads popping out of the water. For a second, you almost believe that they could be mermaids, but in fact, it turns out that they are the women of Hawaii coming out to welcome you with song! Welcome to Liliuokalani’s world.
In 400 C.E. the Hawaiian islands were settled by Polynesian voyagers. They had each island ruled by different chief’s and conflict was normal for them.At the same time they still had law’s and a class system not influenced by foreigners until captain cook arrived at Kealakekua Bay,hawaii in January,18,1778.But the most important person in Hawaiian history is king Kahmehameha he concord all the islands and became ruler of the whole island chain. Also he was an expert leader, politician, intelligent and caring about his subjects.
Hawaii has a rich history in myths and legends. Predominately, the story of Pele is told and passed down through many generations. Pele is the Goddess of Fire, sometimes described as “She who shapes the sacred land.” There are many different versions of the myth of Pele.
The last Queen of Hawaii, Queen Liliuokalani, initially named Lydia Kamakaeha had a huge impact on Hawaii. Lydia was the daughter of Caesar Kapaakea and Analea Keohokalole. She later on became a Hanai child, a tradition in which a royal family adopts the child in order to secure a higher rank for that child (Queen Liliuokalani, 2015). Her foster parents were Abner Paki and Laura Konia. She spent most of her time with her step-sister, Bernice. However, she was constantly reminiscing and upset about leaving home. To get her mind off of things, she studied at a royal school; Chiefs’ Children’s School and became fluent in English. Lydia was educated by missionaries; people who spread Christianity from door to door, and toured the Western World.
“Kamehameha the Great” was the first who united all the islands together and became the ruler in 1810. After he died, the rule was past down to his descendants for about 62 years. From then on, during the process of annexation, the rulers were chosen by the “Hawaiian legislators”. At the time of Lili'uokalani reign, the “prominent annexationists… armed companies of militia” overthrowing the monarchy, and ceding all the lands from the Hawaiians. Present-day,TMT have acquired the necessary permits for building the 30 meter telescope on Mauna Kea. The Hawaiians have felt that they have been disgraced as the construction is beginning. I agree with what the Hawaiians feel because in making the thirty meter telescope there is negative impacts on
Do hate someone, but act like they are your best friend to get something that you want from them? Edgar Allen Poe does in his story “The Cask of Amontillado” as he uses Montresor to tell Fortunato’s journey to catacombs and how he “conceives and executes an ingenious plan... for revenging” Fortunato (Gruesser 129). In “The cask of Amontillado” Poe uses tone, plot devices, and the setting to present the theme of appearances masking reality.
Hawaiian is unique among the fifty states, especially in regards to its native music form, which is still preformed, and captivates audiences even today. Hawaiian chanting, music, and dance are not only key parts of life on the island, but have also become cultural icons as well as profound symbols of nature and religion in Hawaii. Hawaii has a rich history, beginning with the early settlers from Polynesia who brought their traditions and religions to Hawaii. Over the years, the inhabitants took those traditions and adapted them to their new home, creating the definitive culture that, even with Western influences, still is a captivating force within the society.
The Snake Goddess, a voluptuous, divine figure with bare breasts, and snakes in both hands, is one of the most well known female deity’s and faïence figurines in Minoan culture (Patron). The actual representation of the Snake Goddess is unknown; however, a majority of perceptions would all agree that the Snake Goddess is an important female deity in Minoan civilization. By analyzing the importance of symbolism, the role of women in Minoan civilization and The Snake Goddesses role in Minoan culture, it will become evident that The Snake Goddess plays a significant role in Minoan art, religion and society (Witcombe).
Hera was born to Cronus, the Greek Titan god of time and the ages, and to the Greek Titan goddess queen of heaven and the mother of the gods.
Throughout the world there are many religious beliefs. Religion has been existing for a very long time, even before christ, religions serve as a worship to a “god.” There are different perspectives on how one sees religion, even though all religions tend to have similarities they all have a branch that that guides them to a different path than the rest and makes them unique. As Joseph Campbell said, “your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again.” (Campbell, 158-print). He meant that one does not have to follow someone else’s beliefs if one is not happy with what one is worshipping. Campbell emphasizes the fact that every religion is a way to express the human feelings towards a certain god or a thing of either an ancient civilization or a current one. Every generation and tribes have had different systems of beliefs. Take for example “Buddhism” which is a religion that began in the seventh century, before christ” (Religion, Funk and wagnalls- online). It is a very popular religion that has been going on for many centuries with more than 300 million followers. “Christianity is currently the world’s number one religion, and just like Buddhism they both worship some type of God” (Religion, Funk and wagnalls- online). Others religions are based on mythology, because humans do not have many information on whether that “religion” was real or not. Greek mythology is an

From this case study, Dr. John Seffrin and the American Cancer Society(ACS) can be analyzed as leaders in promoting the access to care initiative to ensure equal quality healthcare of lifesaving cancer treatments. Transformational leadership is an example of an approach used by the different members of ACS. This style according to Northouse (2016) “is a process that changes and transforms people. It is concerned with emotions, values, ethics, standards, and long-term goals” (p. 161), which the American Cancer Society shares in order to achieve its mission. This society’s 2015 goals of reducing cancer death rates by 50%, reduce the cancer incidence rates by 25%, and improve the quality of life for all cancer survivors (Simons & Rosenberg, 2009, p. 4) are trying to be reached by
