Who we are depends on how we react to major events in our lives. Our character traits build off of these experiences, too. In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus shows many traits while he travels on this adventure. Some of these include cleverness, leadership, and self-restraint.
While it is true that Odysseus is reliable, he is ultimately a more flawed character in The Odyssey by Homer because of his careless personality. It is true that Odysseus is courageous because he stabs the cyclops eye in order to save his men. Odysseus the leader of the pack and the mighty warrior motivating his men, “No quitting now” (Book 9, 285).
Throughout the time being on this island full of cyclops, Odysseus has showed his ability to think of a well put together plan. The next way Odysseus shows he is a great leader was how quick he was to react to a situation. In book X, lines 137-146 Odysseus shows his skill of reacting quickly when they were on the island and they started getting slaughtered but Odysseus got his men out of there. There was much chaos and commotion but Odysseus figured out what he needed to do to get his men out of there quickly and still alive. He even made a quick decision to cut the rope to his own ship leaving some men behind but this in the end saved more men rather than if they had stayed trying to fight back. Also in book X, lines 287-290 Odysseus shows his skills when one of his men come running back after the other men got turned to pigs by the girl. Right as Odysseus heard of this he grabbed his bow and was about to head out. Instead of Odysseus leaving those men there and sailing away he tries to go fight
In the Odyssey, Odysseus is a very good example of a strong, wise, responsible hero throughout the epic. Although there are people at home he loves and cares for but as the good leader he is, he sacrifices those things like his wife and child to go to war and lead. Are people judged solely based off their actions or does their intent matter too? If someone did what they thought was best, but the result was less than perfect does that mean they are a bad person? Some of his decisions do not have the best end result but Odysseus always believes he is making the right choice. Even though Odysseus thinks more of himself than others and the consequences of his actions, he always does what he believes is best in a situation and remembers those he loves most which makes him a good man.

The Story of Oedipus is a tragic narrative of the life of a king whose life gets turned upside down when a hidden truth guarded by a prophecy comes out. I believe that it is not Oedipus Rex who is at fault in the story. I feel that destiny had pushed them to the ends that they all met. Throughout the play there were instances where I could see that fault could have fallen on the shoulders of Oedipus but to many times the incidences occurred that skewed my vision of what seemed to be accidental turned into destiny. Oedipus had pride above any man because he was praised for defeating the sphinx and an outstanding King of Thebes, for this allowed fate take over and destiny to preside him in his fate.
“ Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story of that man skilled in all ways of contending, the wanderer, harried for years on end, after he plundered the stronghold on the proud height of Troy.” (Homer page 751 lines: 0-4) That was an opening prayer from The Odyssey. To start off with, Odysseus’ first bad decision occurred when he decided to sack the city of Ismarus and then stay to party. This caused the Cicones to build up their army and begin killing Odysseus’ men. As Odysseus stated, “Out of each ship, six men-at-arms killed”(9.69). As a result of this, people will have to mourn over their deaths. Furthermore, Odysseus’ army has become smaller, raising their vulnerability. Moving on, Odysseus’s most idiotic and dangerous decision was
In difficult times, a person's actions that are misconstrued as logical and cautious can lead to dangerous and unfortunate events for many when their actions are really signs of cowardice and convenience. In, Homer’s The Odyssey, Eurylochus, Odysseus’ second-in-command, is often at odds with Odysseus because he always chooses the more cowardly actions to get the crew home safely instead of the more loyal and brave choice. After witnessing Circe’s ability to turn men into swine and telling Odysseus about it, Eurylochus tries to persuade Odysseus to leave. Eurylochus says: “‘Don’t force me back there, captain, king...
