There are three foundations of human development. The foundations are the biological development, psychological development, and social development. The concept of human diversity and cultural competences demonstrates how different people can be. General systems theory and social order are connected in some way.
There are several incidents or situations that can affect a person physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Some of the biological aspects include problematic pregnancy, fetal development and prenatal care. Problems can occur right at the time of conception. There are test that can be done to determine if a fetus can have a life altering conditions. There are many factors that can affect the developmental process. Having the knowledge of the developmental milestones can better help the human service professional with helping and understanding their client. “There are guides to give the information needed for each milestone that a child should reach by a certain age” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2010).

Human development is a process that occurs throughout the lifespan, and lifespan development theories offer frameworks for which to understand human growth. Different approaches focus on specific aspects of human life to determine which has the most significant influence on development. However, one theory usually does not account for all variables of human growth so more than one perspective may be used to analyze development. Two such perspectives, the behavioral and the contextual, explain development in different ways. The behavioral perspective focuses on observable behavior, while the contextual perspective focuses on interrelated systems that influence development. When applied to the case study in the index, the differences in the behavioral and contextual theories become evident.

This was the first topic I was exposed to from this course and knowledge was immediately gained on human development. I learned that there are three fundamental issues of development which are the nature-nurture controversy, continuity versus discontinuity and universal versus context specific development (Demendonca, 2016). I also learned that there are four basic forces that can impact development, which are the biological forces, psychological forces, socio cultural forces and life cycle forces (Demendonca, 2016).

According to Neukrug, there are many theories of human development. Some that stand out the most are physical development, cognitive and moral development, personality development and life span development (2017, 2013).
According to Anderson (2014), Human Development Index (HDI) is the most efficient single matrix for the welfare and progress of an economy. The approach measures the country’s value and well-being in three dimensions namely, education/knowledge, life expectancy (healthy and long life), and a decent living standard (determined by the GDP per capita). Apparently, the first two elements of Human Development Index (education and health) focuses on precise societal goals, but the gross domestic product variables remain a significance proxy for national well-being. The method has been in use by most of the agencies like the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 1990 for their human development report (Anderson, 2014). Again, HDI is used by the European Nations to compare different nations and regions.
The birth and growth of mankind are magical. During these eight weeks study, I found the huge interest in lifespan human development. This course taught me the “roots” of human beings. Until now, I realized how human was born, and I also learn a lot about human development and possible diseases in each period. Besides, I learned the research process. They are really wonderful knowledge and helpful to me!
