The Florida Project is a film about a family living in a motel and how financial hardship affects the children of this film. The family I choose to support is Moonie’s mother, Hailey. Within the film, Hailey is unemployed and having a challenging time finding a job which caused her to lose the assistance she received from welfare. Hailey turns selling discounted items on the streets and to prostitution as her main source of income. To try and support this family, I would offer Hailey a job at my uncle’s restaurant, which will allow her not to use prostitution as a source of income. If Hailey was able to have a steady job should would be able to provide her daughter a better place to live and a reliable food source. Additionally, Hailey having a steady would allow her to receive assistance from welfare if she qualified.
The film ended with a good cliffhanger, having the viewer question what would happen next to Hailey and Moonie or why Moonie ran away to Disney World. I feel that Moonie went to Disney World because she thought that she would blend it with all the other children and not be taken by DCF. She had to remain resilient despite the stress that faced her and Moonie. Even though her personality was unpleasing to most, the bond she created with her daughter allowed both to survive their hardship together. A major challenge Hailey encountered was when she was being evicted from her motel room and had to seek refuge at another motel. Unfortunately, the motel changed its management along with the prices causing Hailey to become volatile with the staff, eventually being able to move back into her previous motel.
