Have you ever been bullied before? The world can be tough place because there are many bullies in the world. People get mad at their bullies and sometimes they want to fight their bullies because their so mad at them. In the story “The Fight” by Adam Bagdasarian the character who wants to fight is Will, but Will learns that you get what you pay for. In the beginning of the story, Will gets what he paid for, Will talked behind Mike’s back. Kevin, Will’s friend, said very confidently to Will, “Do you really think that you can take him.” I think Kevin said this to help him change his mind about the fight, but he didn't change his mind. When Mike heard Will he said, “ I hear you want to fight me”. I think Mike said this to get on Will’s nerves and make him very nervous about the fight. Then Will accepted the fight. He looked confident but actually he was nervous on the inside. It looks like will is going to get what he paid for. …show more content…
You get what you pay for. In the middle of the story, Will figures out it with take him a year to get over the fight if he loses. I think Will was thinking this because he might not be as popular as he was before the fight even happened. According to the story, Will was very scared and nervous to fight Mike after school that day. I think Will felt nervous because if he loses the fight he will be bullied by Mike’s friends and his own friends. Finally, even though Will was fearful or nervous he still showed up to the fight. He showed that he was not scared to fight Mike in front of a bunch of people. I think that he did not show that he was sad or even scared to fight Mike, because he wanted to lose his trust of his friends. You get what you pay
The author, Sean Gregory, in “The Perilous Fight,” talks about the political issue that has been going on for the past year, the issue started when a professional football player from the San Francisco 49ers team, also known as Colin Kaepernick, kneeled down when the National anthem for the United States of America was played at the beginning of a game. Kaepernick’s justification for this, was that this was his way of protesting unfair treatment of individuals because of racial characteristics. Since racism, discrimination, and gender inequalities have been going on for centuries, I agree on the matter of sports players being able to kneel down when the anthem, “Star spangled Banner,” is being played because these people are trying to stand up for what they believe is right, and they should be allowed to protest because it is serving as a peaceful way to protest for people who are being unjustly treated. Racism and discrimination often leads to these individuals who are suffering to be judged, killed, and many other harsh things that should not be taking place in the “land of the free.” We as Americans are given so many great things, and people think about the United States they usually think of freedom, pursuit of happiness, and the rights of being a U.S. citizen, but how can we exercise those given rights properly, when t the government does not let us by putting limitations and restrictions on how we use our rights? When it's
Will McLean is a cadet at the Carolina Military institute who finds life to be physically and emotionally brutal. Will promised his father who passed away that he would attend the Institute, but has no real interest in a military career. In the beginning Will is placed outside of his comfort zone due to his Roman Catholic faith and Irish Background, compared to all the other southern born cadets. He is not really experienced with military training but does show some athleticism and hard work in the classroom. Will has a flashback of when he experienced “hell night” during
Defensiveness shows up the moment the relationship starts to have a form of conflict occur. Defensiveness is “self-protection in the form of righteous indignation or innocent victimhood in an attempt to ward off a perceived attack.” This is expressed in multiple scenes in the movie but the best example of it was when Will invites Sara over for dinner the day that she learned he was the Date doctor and Will says “Its not my fault….” this is a good example of how he is becoming defensive because he is trying to turn the blame on the other making it seem as it it is them that is making the relationship not work. The way they could have solved this would have been that one of them takes they are responsible for the the problem even if it is on half of the blame. All Will had to do was explain to Sara what his job entitled when they first meet each other.
Will uses anger, denial, and sarcasm as defense mechanisms to push people away from him. He told people that he did not have a problem and that they were the ones with the problem. He used
Will was arguably Meg’s closest ally; nevertheless they had trust issues from the beginning of their friendship. This quote summarizes the scene in which Meg speculated why Will left his job to follow her: “Keep her alive. The coach lurched. My hands shook as I dropped the paper to the floor. I hugged myself as Will came down from his seat and knelt before me. ‘You’re working for him.’ My voice barely escaped my constricting throat. ‘I trusted you and you’re working for him’” (Bailey 229). Meg’s adversary, Lord Rathford, had sent Will to follow Meg and assure sure she was safe. This event was momentous, as Meg had assumed Will had left his post due to his own feelings, not because he was coerced to do so. Meg was uncertain whether she could forgive Will for his actions. This portion of the book, an event leading up to the novel’s climax, was significant due to the author’s spotlight on the theme of
In the story, “The Fighter” by Walter Dean Myers, the main conflict of the story is that Billy, the main character, needs to earn more money for him and his family in order for them to live a nice life. Billy is running low on money, so he needs to do boxing which is the only way he earns money, but his wife does not agree with him because she doesn’t want him to get hurt. Therefore, he is torn between either upsetting his wife to earn money or living in poverty until he could get the right education to get a good job. In the beginning of the story it says Billy is going out, though it doesn’t say where, it is to somewhere his wife does not want him to go. I know this because on page 27 it states,“Billy Giles told his wife that he was just
Will sees himself as a “southie”, a loser. To maintain congruence between his self-view and his experiences his acts out. He starts fights and stays in trouble. He doesn't seek anything better for himself.
Will is arrested, and during his arrest hits a cop, which seems to guarantee that he will be facing jail time.
When it comes to the film industry, entertainment is the tool used to acquire what is desired, money. The main goal for filmmakers when they create a film is to attain money in addition to the money spent to make the movie. Therefore, in some films that they like to base off of true accounts, it is somewhat necessary to dramatize or embellish the story to really tug at the heartstrings of the films audience. They achieve this goal by the use of dramatic music, ambient lighting, and a small amount of tweaked diction. The Fighter is an excellent example of this dramatization in action because throughout the film the characters are faced with a multitude of decisions that must be made. The choices they make require the characters to choose
For example, when confronting an old foster home “Friend”, by the name of Carmine, Will unleashed an onslaught of punches, which lead to Will Knocking out Carmine then being arrested for assault by the local cops. When Will saw his old friend, memories of the abuse that his foster family gave him sprang onto Will’s head and triggered his mind to give some payback for everything that he experienced as an abused kid in the foster home. Not only that but his mood drastically changed from the moments prior to seeing Carmine. Before seeing Carmine, Will was planning to have a good time with his friends at a baseball game, But that changed as he saw Carmine at the game as well. Once he saw Carmine, Will was determined to beat Carmine up, as carmine did to him when he was a kid. Clearly in the movie, Will is a mathematical genius, as he was able to solve the problem that Professor Lambeau wrote on the chalkboard outside his room. However when Lambeau confronted Will, after he found out who solved the problem, Will ran away from the professor instead of being congratulated for his success in solving the problem. A valid reason why Will did not accept the praise from the professor was because he had a negative self-image of himself. To understand what a negative self-image is, it is important to know what the term self-image means. Karl Perera, from the website, More-selfesteem.com defines the term self-image as, “ how you see yourself. This may be how you see yourself physically or your opinion of who and what you are which is normally called self concept. It is important as it
Knowing he doesn’t have his powers yet, he is assigned as a sidekick once he arrives and makes some sidekick friends. Will becomes popular and gets his dream girl, or so he thinks, leaving his true friends in the dust. But when a secret is revealed, it is up to him and his sidekick friends to save the day.
Will 's group of friends seem to pick on him and judge him, which questions if they are truly his friends or not and if he truly fits in with him.
Then we fast forwards to the present day, learning we had just witnessed a flashback. In the present, Will is having a lecture on the Marlow-murders in the FBI academy in Quantico, Virginia. Then enters Jack Crawford, asking Will for his help on a case. Already from the fist moment, Jack acts as an alpha male, forcing eye contact and answers out of Will. We learn more about Will’s abilities, problems and why he landed on a teaching post.
The main focus is placed on Will, whom has a rare genius to put together abstract math problems and finds it hard to relate to world without getting arrested for doing something violent and rebellious. He grew up in South Boston and the hard streets have jaded him, while his intelligence further isolated him from people and made him hostile to other people. In the beginning of the film, Will is discovered by Lambeu (Stellan Skarsgard) a professor of mathematics, and his well-being becomes a serious issue and he is pursued. While placing a difficult math problem on the chalkboard
Everyone has either been bullied or have been the bully, but the ones who are the bully don’t see what they’re really doing until it’s too late.
