The Marines Jeff Schogal once referred to the Marine Corps as, “The Few, the Proud, the Marines,” I hope to become part of the few, the proud, and the marines. The Marines Corps, a military branch will train me to be mentally and physically fit, and will prepare me to a better man, and it will teach me to be a technologist. The requirements to become a Marine is that you must possess a high school diploma. The Marines is a military branch of the United States Armed Forces that assists army and naval forces at sea, in air, and on land. About 38,000 new recruits are accepted into the Marine Corps and trained each year. There is also approximately 182,000 active members and over 38,000 reserves.
The author points out various examples of the Corps short-comings throughout history. With the Marine Corps already struggling to stay atop its game, it didn’t shed positive light on the situations. With that said, it’s hard to point out the flaws of the Corps without also showing its achievements and how we can overcome any obstacle we are faced with.
First to fight is a book by Lieutenant General Victor H. Krulak. This book talks about the history, truth, and reputation of the Marine Corps. In the book we would find out more about history dates, battles, and of people who have helped us with their extraordinary acts while called on duty. At first it talks about how the Marine Corps struggled to keep their existence, later on the Marines proved to them that they were way much better in combat and amphibious assaults than any other service. As Marines we adapt and overcome any situation we are put in. Also the Marine Corps congratulated themselves on the national security act victory. Now they were allowed to contribute and protect the country since it was already put in the law.
Since the birth of our nation, the steady performance of the Marine Corps in fighting America’s battles has made it the very symbol of military excellence. The Corps has come to be recognized worldwide as elite fighting forces, renowned for their physical endurance, for their high level of obedience, and for their fierce pride they take in, as individuals, in the capacity for self- discipline. The reasons for their high repute however go much deeper.” – Clare Booth Luce
“There are only two kinds of people who understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else just has a second-hand opinion.” (Gen William Thornson, U.S. Army) For decades, the United States Marine Corps has established an identity as a unique and fearless war fighting machine.
Being apart of the nations American society is one thing, but being apart of the nations greatest military force is highly honored. To be strong, level-minded and balanced is what all counts down to be the greatest warrior you could ever become. Whether your in the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Coast Guard or even the national guard, the uniform you wear displays a sense of unexplain-able respect gained from those we protect. The Warrior Ethos book does not only explain things from a military aspect of what a warrior should be or what characteristics he or she should have but life in general as a warrior in society. As people, whether military or civilian we all have different mindsets and this book dives deeper into the mindset of how a warriors ethos can fit in with society thereafter'.
Every Marine knows that we fight for each other and nothing will ever come between the brotherhood of Marines. The book Leading Marines talks about three major keys Ethos, Foundation, and Challenges of the United States Marine Corps.
The U.S. Marines traditions consists of reciting the rifleman 's creed, the honor of being "first on foot, and right of the line"; moreover, performing precise drill movements. All recruits learn to recite the rifleman 's creed since World War 11. In 1876, the Secretary of the Navy presented the Marines with the honor of being "first on foot, and right of the line". The U.S. Marines learn to perform precise drill movements for audiences across America without being told. They are required to be financially secure and highly educated. They fight on land, air, and sea.
Since July 4th, 1776, the United States have been a formidable foe on the battlefield. Taking on forces at home, and abroad, the United States emerges victorious time, and time again. This is not attributed to one person alone. This strength can be attributed to the brave souls of the United States military. We have the Army, and Airforce. Yet, there is one branch that sets itself apart from them both. One that emerged out of the womb of the Navy. That branch, is the United States Marines. From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli, the Marines have been there and conquered it. Though, The Marine Corps was not always known as the tough band of guns the United States had. Like all things, the Marines had a beginning. And quite a beginning it was. This is the story of how the United States Marines changed, and grew over the years.
The United States Marine Corps established November 10, 1775 is one of the most elite fighting forces in the world it's no surprise that the marines have fought in most every United States conflict since it was founded. The marines are mostly noted for fighting in the Pacific Theater during WWII. They were involved in some of the most bloody battles the US has ever fought. From the battle of Wake island to The battle of Okinawa these brave men have fought for our freedom in the air on land and in the sea.
The Marine Corps does two things: make marines and win our nation’s battles. Winning battles depend on how well we make marines. Those who have earned the title have been polished and honed by attentive mentoring. We have to remember that to sustain the transformation
America never truly recovered from the shock that followed the collapse of the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan, the strike on the Pentagon, the final crashed airline in Shanksville, PA.
The Marine Corps is not just an organization but instead it is a mindset, a spirit if you will,
Senior enlisted leaders were asked to come up with solutions to stop suicide in the Marine Corps. I am going to talk about three topics that I feel are the best solutions to suicide; (1) All hands responsibility, (2) Spiritual guidance, (3) Mental ship awareness program. Suicide is all hands responsibility because Marines are one family that strive to do their best for the best interest of the institution. Marines care for one another and the moment someone takes their life, it has a great impact on our emotional state of mind, mission readiness, and lack of training at all levels on how to deal with a suicide, why is it important to talk about it vice walking away and let the time cure the pain or the unanswered question. After any suicide I find it as a critical point to educate the force on why taking your life is not the solution, why any suicide is a death that touches someone (Kelly, 2015). Educating Marines that there is a solution to any problem and giving the solutions is important because at least there chances to make a choice just went up because all those resources within reach.
