The Eighty’s was a time of hippies, punk rock rebels, insane hair styles, sequence, and the world’s all-time favorite game Pac -man was released. Women finally were getting equal pay as men and Ronald Regan was elected President. With all of those incredible things going on it is almost hard to believe that it was also a time of invasions, revolutions, riots, citizens were being taken hostage, and terrorists attacks happened. Lastly, an important eye-opening event that occurred in the Eighty’s was the Iran-Iraq War.
The Iran-Iraq War started in 1980 and was ceased in 1988. The main countries involved in this war was the United Kingdom, United states, Iraq, Iran, and the organization NATO; which is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The
Throughout the 1910-1920s there were many events that occurred throughout the decade that affected the quality of life of people. For example, the first event was on April 6th, 1917, when the United Sates “joined allies—Britain, France, and Russia—to fight in World War I”(America Story from America's Library, n.d.). The reason that the United States decided to fight the war would be because of the various “disagreements in Europe over territory and boundaries among other issues”(America Story from America's Library, n.d). How the World War I would have impacted me on my leisure and recreation activities would be that there would be “adequate creation programs adjacent to army and navy stations and training camps”(Leisure and American Lifestyle,
The person who I going speak about did amazing things. The person lived during the 1920s-1960s. In this sets of arguments, I am going talk about the 1950s-1960s. In the 1950s, a civils rights movement happens. The civics’ right movement features African Americans that fight for equal civil rights. They were fighting this for centuries however; a major impact helps the African Americans during the 1950s. The congress ruled that segregated education facilities for black children is unequal for the Brown vs. Board of Education case ruling, South resisted this by putting their children in all-whites segregation camp. During 1956, many Southern congressmen sign a “Southern Manifesto” saying that defend segregation.
Many components led to the 1029s or “Roaring Twenties”, known as an age of dramatic change. The time period was filled with prosperity and advancements in technology that shaped what we have now in the present. For example, more American lived in cities rather then farms, wealth increased, new discoveries were made and many more factors contributed to this. The period became known as roaring because extreme changes in culture, technology, music, art, architecture, dance, and fashion happened. The Nineteenth Amendment was also established giving women the right to vote. During the 1920s many Americans had extra money to spend on goods such as cloths, home appliances and in particular many American families bought a radio. These early radio’s
I would rather live in the 2015 than the 1900's. One primary reason would be the entertainment. Entertainment has changed a lot from the 1900's, In the 1900's for entertainment you would have a picnic or go watch a play. Nowadays everybody goes to the movies, play videogames which is more exciting and fun to do. Another reason would be the technology. In the 1900's the phones could not perform actions that they do now, you can only use them to talk and they were not portable as they are now. In 2015 phones can perform many things like take , pictures, go on social networks, listen to music and on top of everything they were portable. The last reason would be fashion. In the 1900's men had to wear suits after they were sixteen. Now men are
The Roaring Twenties was a very memorable decade. The Roaring Twenties is considered a popular decade and there are several reasons why. This era is characterized by organized crime, popular music, and a new type of woman.
The term “roaring twenties” is used by most of the American population referring to the 1920s during a time of unrelenting economy growth which characterized the distinctive cultural edge of the decade (Out of Many, p. 598). This roaring decade experienced significant economic growth with prosperity by the recovery from devastating wartime, a boom in the construction sector and increased growth of the consumer goods like vehicles and electric energy.
The 70s was groovy and funky all around. The Beatles broke up, M.A.S.H. Started, and abortion was legalized. Everyone talks about watergate or the palestinians, but no one seems to recognize the amazing advancements brought about in technology. In the 1970s technology was greatly advanced by the invention of the floppy disk and the VCR.
The 1980s was full of so many important events and extravagant sports. There are a variety of historic and sport events that influenced what was popular in that time period. The 80s was filled with new advancements in television broadcasting sports for women and many other important historical events.
After World War I ended in 1918, a new era began known as “Roaring Twenties”. The Roaring Twenties was a time when the United States experienced various types of cultural, artistic, and social innovations. New technologies and higher wages allowed more and more Americans to purchase a wide range of consumer goods. (Roaring Twenties Society, Burns) Americans Industries experienced what is known as “The Second Industrial Revolution” which brought more advanced machinery and technologies.
I would have liked to have lived in the 1920’s due to all of the new opportunities that sprung up around this time. One giant part of the 1920’s was women’s multiple openings in the job and social world. Women were allowed to do so much more without being looked down upon from the general public. They even changed how their clothes looked going from the massive dresses of the past to thinner, shorter dresses. Without these women trying to change the norm that had been set for them by their grandparents then future “rebellions” such as the 1960’s would most likely never had happened.
I believe that the United States should not return to the 1950’s. There were many problems in society that were veiled by the illusion of happiness.
Everyone loved the 70’s. It was better than the 60’s. And even better than the 50’s. In fact, the 1970’s put those decades to shame when it sauntered in with its bell bottomed pants, comfortable cotton shirts, and sparkly jumpsuits. People wore large gold chains, vibrant and wild colored prints, and snazzy platform heels as they casually strolled into town. Music genres in the 70’s were quite varied- with rock, hard rock, heavy metal, soft rock, southern rock, country pop, and disco all gaining popularity. The choice pet of the time was the classic pet rock. While the 70’s had many memorable moments throughout its time period there are five events that are particularly important.
Whenever I think about the eighties, my first thoughts are television shows, such as Full House, toys such as Teddy Ruxpin and music, such as Bryan Adams. After doing some research and digging deeper into the decade I refreshed my memory with things I knew when I when was younger but at the same time I made many new discoveries. I felt like the development of women empowerment continued to grow when I researched Sally Ride who was the first American woman in space. I also felt like the eighties were a time of fear, such as the hypodermics one the shore of beaches in New York and New Jersey(30) and when Bernie Goetz killed four African-American teenagers in New York (29). I also thought the eighties was also a very saddening, such as the heavy
There were some major industrial/agricultural innovations of the period 1870-1890. Electricity was one of these as it supplied energy to light rooms, buildings, and elevators in buildings and other places such as those of the Eiffel Tower. Electric elevators at the Eiffel Tower allowed the transport of more to/from its summit. Telephones and typewriters changed the way people and businesses communicated, conducted business, traded, and transmitted/ swapped information with one another.
The 80 's was an eye opener to a lot of new things, new music, new styles, new points of view on life and new technology. Music was a big hit for the 80 's and so was the technology. A home, family, job and fun was basically what everyone needed to live ahappy life. In the 80 's, people saw the American dream, as a simple task of success andthose years defined them. They were the generation in between differences and facing disagreement andnot turning our backs. The 80 's may have made them idealistic, but it 's idealism that will push themand be passed on to their children, the first children of the twenty-first century.
