Throughout history, water has eternally served a salient purpose in keeping all forms of life alive to this day. However, water 's sustenance seems to have been appreciated more in past ages than it is currently. If you were to ask someone about the roles that water plays in our lives today, they would most likely say that it keeps us hydrated, our bodies clean, and our plants watered. It may seem that facile, but little do many people know about the numerous, distinct ways that water succors us in our daily lives. Water plays a vital role in our quotidian lives by making manufacturing, power, jobs, and the balance of nature attainable by communities.

The process to make hydroelectric power uses a reservoir and dam to flow water through a turbine that generates electricity when spun. No waste product remains and enough electricity is made to power cities continuously. Homes, manufacturing factories, and business buildings all run on a necessary portion of hydroelectric power. Your very own clothes would not have been made if there was no hydroelectricity to power the factory they were made in. Those ecards you email your grandma every birthday and Christmas were sent because water generated enough energy to power your computer. Millions of people have jobs because water helps to power their place of work and keep it running.

I would now like to address how water has created jobs for many Americans in a time of financial need. Due to the Great Depression of 1,929, millions of Americans were out of work and struggling to survive. After years of suffering, US state corporations organized building projects to improve the quality of towns, but more importantly, to create enough jobs for the several Americans needing to get back on their feet. The Tennessee Valley Authority organized some of the largest hydropower construction programs of this time and employed 28,000 Americans in Tennessee Valley alone because the demand for hydropower was growing.
