Have you ever heard of the domino effect? The domino effect is a situation in which one event causes a series of similar events to happen one after another (Merriam Dictionary). The first domino in The Book Thief is when Rudy decided to win the gold medals at the Hitler Youth carnival which grabbed the attention of many people. The second domino is when the two Nazis in black coats wanted Rudy for the special training school because of his athletic ability and intelligence. The third domino is when his parents said no to Rudy joining. The fourth domino is the punishment of Alex Steiner for not letting Rudy join. The fifth domino is the worst of all. Liesel and many characters have shown courage in their actions. For example, when Liesel saw Max in the crowd, she knew that if she jumped in and hugged Max she would get in trouble, but she did it anyway. “Liesel walked at him. She was courageous enough to reach out and hold his bearded face. “Is it really you, Max? (512).” It takes a lot of guts to do anything like that in those times, usually there would be a death penalty or beatings. Another example, is when Hans gave bread to the starving jews in another march. The punishment for doing that was getting whipped. They all have the courage to go against the laws and show that they have power. They show they have power through their actions, unlike Hitler who gained the support of people by hypnotizing them with the power of words. They show that they can go through any hardships by having the courage to do what is
“The Road Not Taken” is comparable to The Book Thief by the way Robert Frost and Markus Zusak show how choices humans make propel their lives forward into one direction, and how the events of life connect. “The Road Not Taken” is about life’s choices, and how a person will never know where the decisions they make in life will lead them, or more so, how they will never know how the choices they didn’t make would’ve led them. Just from the title of the poem, which Frost wrote as “The Road Not Taken”
Part One: Compare and contrast this persona of Death with the familiar personification of the Grim Reaper. How is Death from The Book Thief like the Grim Reaper, and how is he significantly different? People typically think of the Grim Reaper as evil and cruel, like he enjoys killing people. Death in The Book Thief, however, seems to dislike what he has to do. He says many times in the epilogue that he requires distractions to take his mind off his work, to help him deal with it. Death also feels
in The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. This book proves the ability to use words and how they can be used to hurt and heal. It also shows the importance of educating ourselves on the impact of our word choices. Liesel's complex relationship with words throughout "The Book Thief" proves the power of words, their ability to heal, and the need to become educated in their impact and exercising caution with their use. Words that hurt have a deep and painful effect which can cause a terrifying domino effect
The Book Thief The simple fact of life is that every living thing will die. However, it is not the dying that suffer; it is the loved ones that they leave behind. In The Book Thief, Death itself narrates, “I witness the ones who are left behind, crumbling among the jigsaw puzzle of realization, despair, and surprise. They have punctured hearts. They have beaten lungs” ( Zusak 5). The dictionary definition of tragedy is “a kind of drama that presents a serious subject matter about human suffering
“Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” Unless, of course, the cover hints at a major literary element used throughout the entire book. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is printed with a series of dominoes on the cover. Simply picking up the book for the first time, a reader would not know the meaning behind the image; but as the story unfolds, its significance and meaning is realized. Cause and effect has a major impact on our lives. Actions all have a reaction and a consequence. The Book Thief is an excellent

Post hoc ergo proctor hoc. This happens when the cause-and-effect reasoning is faulty. If everything doesn’t add up it becomes this type of fallacy 7. Red herring. When the audience experiences a “Red Herring” this means that the speaker intentionally went off topic.
