The Doctors Plague: Self-Analysis

Satisfactory Essays

Starting off with Project 1 this semester was an interesting learning curve for myself. I was worried that I would struggle with this book not being a very avid reader. The Doctors’ Plague was captivating enough that I was not only able to follow along but also able to summarize almost every chapter very well. I wrote my first academic book review; which was very difficult for me to do. I improved my critical thinking skills, and worked on my writing skills as well. There was a lot of critical thinking involved while reading. While I am not 100% certain what applying scientific frameworks means. I think it is something like scientific method, but in writing. Where you have a theory and you analyze and prove or disprove it. Just like it seemed throughout The Doctors’ Plague that the author was very knowledgeable about the topic. The way he ordered the events and the information all flowed in a chronological order and made even complicated things simple enough where even with no medical background someone would be able to follow along. So, when Semmelweis in the story was basically going through the thought process (theory) trying to figure out what the cause of the childbed fever you could somewhat follow along with his trail/error process marking out what was and wasn’t the reason these women were becoming ill. I honestly learned and was challenged a lot during this project. I experienced writing my first book review, and my first time writing a reflective essay as well. Our assignments have been easy and interesting to do as well. Our questions for our quizzes made sure that we were actively reading the book too. I think I still would benefit from a little more clarification on some things. A little practice here and there will be helpful. I look forward to seeing what other new writing adventures
