Bullying, often labeled as just a part of growing up, is a major problem in America’s schools today. Although it is such a hot topic in our country right now, it is also a long ignored problem that only seems to worsen. The complication with bullying is that no one quite understands it, and it is not taken seriously. The definition of bullying is an overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people. In more simple terms, bullying is not a onetime incident; it is repetitive and happens among individuals when there is an imbalance of power. Statistically, every one in six children are bullied, and this cannot continue to take place. Every child has the right to feel safe and have the pursuit of being happy in which bullying completely takes those rights away.

There are also some steps through which parents can over-come bullying because if parents don 't stop bullying during early childhood, bullying will increase with the growth of that child (Storey & Slaby, 2013). There are too many problems with bullying, such as stereotyping, which is one of the major issue that will occur if parents do not control their children in early childhood. Children can also develop dysfunctional relationships later in life as a result. For example, a child in her early childhood, whose name is Rena, is constantly being bullied by her cousin, Chris. He bites her arms and pulls her hair because she plays with his toys. Rena may carry her hate towards him from now till the time she grows up and by then she will only see negativity in Chris and would hate him forever. That is if her parents don 't change her perception of Chris while she 's still in the early years of childhood. That 's bullying and that 's only one problem with it. There are so many other issues like this at the age of 3-4.
As kids we probably never understood the term “bully” or why we were subjected to being bullied or why other peers were getting bullied. The fact that some children are constantly harassing other peers verbally, physically, and socially to a point of self-harm is very heartbreaking. Due to the severity of the potential harm bullying can cause, much research has been conducted on how bullying can influence the lives and actions of those associated with it. In order to address the issue of bullying, one must first understand not only the impact it may have, but the factors that influence how those involved are affected. These factors include the role one plays in the bullying, the method through which the bullying occurs, and the gender of the victim. This research has demonstrated how complex the relationship between victims of bullying and their fellow peers can be, as well as how damaging this phenomena is on those who experience it.
