Recent issued raised by the state of South Carolina The first time the Confederate flag was flown in South Carolina was to mark the centennial of the civil war. In addition to that memorial moment, it also coincided with a slew of Jim Crow laws being overturned. While some considered the raising of that flag to be significant to the history of that state, there is sound reasoning to believe that the raising of that flag would be a reminder to minorities that the white race is dominant. The year 2015 was not the first time that there was an effort to remove the flag from public property. They are made through traditional methods of making a man or woman into a Soldier. Since Soldiers are not born, they still have the basis of their upbringing that comes with them. The Army recruits soldiers from Maine to Hawaii and Florida to Alaska. The Army also recruits non-U.S. citizens as well. All of those individuals bring with them all the culture with which they grew. Those recruits bring with them what proper etiquette looks like, how to eat, what to eat, how to dress, and a whole slew of other things that would be cultural norms. Discrimination is, unfortunately, is not new to the Army. Gender and religious discrimination are carried over from civilian life. Racism is no exception as to the varying types of discrimination some bring into the Army. The Army provides training regarding what expectations there are, but the Army will never be able to truly legislate morality. Impact on the Force The Army takes great effort to ensure a fair and unbiased force. A force that can rely on all its members to execute as a team and trust all of its members to do what needs to be done.
