The community that I will be describing is the city of Long Beach. In this city there are many people of age and ethnicity. This city is very diverse in having many people of different cultures and backgrounds. Downtown Long Beach is where people go to eat, have fun and hang out near the Pike. At the Pike is where you’ll find a lot of young people going to the movies or shopping. In this city it is filled with young adults and they are the majority of the community. A lot of the young adults have jobs and there are some that are going to school. Younger adults are more prone to trying new things which sometimes can lead into a health issue. In this city I will be discussing a main health problem that might be relatable to other cities. The health problem that will be discussed is the use of tobacco products in young adults. Some products are cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vapes, chewing tobacco, and hookah. These products are used daily by young adults in this community.
The relatable health problem is tobacco use. Tobacco can be used in many ways, but most commonly it is smoked or chewed. I chose this health topic because it is a concerned of mine on how many young adults use tobacco. According to healthy people 2020, “10.9 percent of young adults aged 18 to 25 years who had not previously used tobacco products in their lifetime first used tobacco products in the past 12 months in 2008” This shows that young adults are trying and experimenting at a young age. I will be doing

In conclusion, tobacco kills so many people each year across the world. The efforts of Luther Terry should not taken in vain, but should be appreciated. Throughout his life, He has contributed so much towards public health, and his contributions still prevail today. It is extremely important that be become knowledgeable, and understand the risks. the key is to start with our young nation, because they are the ones who tend to be easily persuaded with curiosity, only then, we can bring to light the consequences and effects of tobacco use. It is one of the major challenges we face today, but if we overcome, it may prevent hundreds and thousands of deaths each year.
Smoking is a severe health issue which can results in pain, sickness and depression. Not only does the misuses of tobacco and nicotine have a devastating
Long Beach is a city in Los Angeles County in Southern California, on the Pacific coast of the United States. The city is the 36th-largest city in the United States and the seventh-largest in California. As of 2010, its population was 462,257. Tobacco use and the effects of second hand smoke have been an ongoing issue for many years. Looking at the attitude of the 1950’s and 1960’s when smoking was thought of as cool, suave, mature, etc., there has been a major turnaround in the way society looks at the use of tobacco. Now the issue is not just smoking and the damage to health that it causes, but now there is the additional awareness of what second hand smoke can do to individuals.
Communities are places where people come together, interact with one another and their environment and share common characteristics, attitudes, interests, and goals. This paper will talk about the smoking community of Tulsa, Oklahoma and its health risks. The paper will then compare and contrast the major health risks of Tulsa to other cities and the state of Oklahoma, and address why this risk is present. Next, the paper will discuss the sources used, how the data was located, and the reliability of the information. Finally, relevant charts and tables will be included to help explain and substantiate the data collected.
The vulnerable population that I observed during my survey are the teenagers and young adult smokers. As I was driving along Flatbush avenue and the surrounding community one evening, I observed a bunch of young male adults gathered on the street, appeared to be clean and nicely dressed. They were talking loud, drinking alcohol and smoking weed or cigarettes. You would have thought that they were fighting with each other, but much do I know that this was their normal way of communicating at social gatherings. What baffled me the most was that there were children and females, both young and older adults as well standing in the same spot inhaling the cigarette smoke. It seems like people are ignorant that second hand cigarette smoking is more hazardous to non-smokers than it is to smokers, especially to children. It could cause lung cancer, heart problems and other debilitating diseases.
Ocean City is a beautiful vacation place, not just for the summer. Many people go there to relax, make memories and have a good time. It is a fun-filled, family-friendly vacation place that everyone will enjoy and it is worth the drive.
One of my first memories in the United States was taking a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) class. I was in sixth grade and a top student, as talking about drugs and alcohol and the way they affect us was fascinating to me. This is why, the following year, I volunteered to become a peer educator in Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U). For a couple of years, I gave presentations to young students which included facts, demonstrations, and games, to spread the knowledge that tobacco is harmful and that staying away from smoking prolongs life expectancy and increases the quality of life. It should come as no surprise, then, that I consider myself a big proponent of staying tobacco-free and encouraging others to quit smoking as a great way to promote health. I remember watching my mom and sister as they took part in their nightly ritual of smoking a few cigarettes to unwind. “Did you know that a main component of cigarettes is used as rocket fuel?” I would ask them, as I opened the window and they stared back at me blankly. “We know, we know” was the answer every time. I knew that convincing them to quit was no easy task, but I was committed. Day after day, I proudly stated a new fact about the evils of smoking. Finally one day, they quit. At first, they attributed it to the cost. Since we had just immigrated to the United States, the cost of cigarettes was simply not something they could afford. I didn’t believe it. I proudly
Addiction and substance abuse is a personal fear in most people worldwide. Young people are more susceptible to experimenting with tobacco and alcohol, than middle aged or older people are. Most people reported smoking at the age or eighteen, when they could legally purchase
Teen smoking is my third and final topic because it is the most shocking. Each day 3,000 children smoke their first cigarette and at least 3 million adolescents are smokers. 20 percent of American teens smoke. In the US today, roughly 6 million teens smoke,
The use of tobacco and the consumption of alcohol is considerably huge around the United States of America. A sad reality is it’s not just adults that are smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol. Children who are in grade school are being exposed to this lifestyle and many begin to experiment. It can easily become an addiction, and for some, it does. There may be personal reasons to why individuals begin to use, and some of those reasons may be due to peer pressure, stress relief, and availability.
Smoking tobacco cigarettes has been recognized as the leading cause of lung cancer and other health related illnesses in the developed world. But there is a new emergence of electronic cigarettes, which can deliver nicotine without the vast range of carcinogens and toxins found in a regular tobacco cigarette. Of course, this is a very controversial topic in which creates a dilemma, some people approve the use of electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. In the other hand there is people with negative views on the use of an e-cigarette as an alternative to a regular tobacco cigarette. My research will target a specific population, college students and their point of view on the use of electronic cigarettes. I am interested to find what are college students at CSUSB perceptions of the health impacts of electronic cigarettes? Are college students more susceptible to use electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes?
Tobacco; one of the most profitable products in history, an addictive substance, and a deadly killer. Smoking tobacco used to be a thing that was endorsed in American society. Now, with the new medical advances and knowledge, society has seen the side effects of smoking and how fatal it actually is. Teenagers have been one of the largest age groups that have been affected by smoking. After analyzing all possible reasons as to why teenagers would smoke while knowing it can affect their health, three possible reasons stuck out the most. Teenagers smoke despite knowing the health problems that originate from smoking because of peer pressure, an “invincibility” mentality, and seeing a role model or family member smoke.
