It was a tragic death. Romeo and Juliet take their lives because of their families hate. But should they be to blame for their deaths? Or should the person that made their get away plan be accused for their death? I think Friar Lawrence is the person most to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet because he married them in secret, he hatched the plan to help them get away together, and he sent the letter to Romeo too late. First off, Friar Lawrence married Romeo and Juliet in secret. This might have seemed like a good idea at the time. Really, all he was wanting to do was to stop the Montague and Capulet feud. But when you really look at it, it was a very stupid idea. How could he not see that marrying them would cause even more problems. …show more content…
This is a big part. He was the one that gave her the potion to make Juliet seem like she was dead. So, in a way, he did literally kill her (temporarily). Without him coming up with this plan Romeo and Juliet might have not been together, but they would have been alive. Because of his plan he killed two innocent people. Last, he sent the letter to Romeo to late. If he wouldn’t have waited to send the letter to Romeo none of this would have happened. Romeo would have gotten the letter from Friar John, understood the situation, and have been there when Juliet woke up. But, he waited too long and that jeopardized the whole plan. Others may say that it was the parents that were most to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death because they would not let them do what they wanted. But, Friar
One person who is to be blamed for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is Friar Laurence. Although Friar Laurence is portrayed as a ‘good’ man – and seems to have/do no harm to the people of Verona – he is not completely blameless. In fact, Friar Laurence undoubtedly has the most blame for their death. In Act Two, Scene Three, Lines 90-95, Friar Laurence agrees to the marriage of Romeo and Juliet because Friar Laurence truly believes that if they were lucky enough, the two feuding households, the Capulets and the Montagues, would have their hatred between one another be turned into pure love. “O, she knew well/Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell./But come, young waverer, come go with me./In one respect I’ll thy assistant be,/For this alliance may be so happy prove/To turn your household’ rancour to pure love.” All Friar
In the William Shakespeare's play both Romeo and Juliet end up killing themselves. I believe that the most responsible person for there deaths is Friar Laurence. Without his many actions Romeo and Juliet would be alive.
Had he done so, he could have informed Romeo that Juliet was alive, thus he could have prevented Romeo's death. Also, Friar Lawrence did not physically stop Juliet's suicide; he simply said "Come, come away... I'll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of nuns"(V. iii. 154-157), and ran away. Had he not been so hasty, he could have realized that the consequences of being caught trespassing are less punitive than those of abandoning Juliet. In fact, Friar Lawrence knew that if he abandoned Juliet, she likely would have committed suicide, because she threatened to so in the past "...And with this knife I'll help it presently"(IV. i. 54). Furthermore, he planned on solving the family feud with the marriage "...To turn your household's rancour to pure love"(II. iii. 92), but he did not make any arrangements to inform Montague and Capulet that he married Romeo and Juliet; he simply disappeared. Had he explained the situation to Montague and Capulet, at any time before the catastrophe, they would have trusted the friar, a holy man who everyone respected, and they would have hopefully dissolved their family feud. They did so in the end after the friar was forced to explain (V. iii). In brief, Friar Lawrence should have been more proactive, and he should have stepped in at the right time.
As a matter of fact, he then married Romeo and Juliet, trying to end the feud between their families, but later on he knew he would be punished if the families knew he married them. Also when people were coming towards the tomb, he wanted Juliet to run and stay with the nuns so no one would know what he did. Friar Lawrence also rushed the part of the plan involving Romeo, that part failed, and that is where is all went wrong. Friar Lawrence is a hypocrite for not following his own advice he gave, and not sticking with his plan all along, stop the feud the Montagues and Capulets
Whenever a problem occurs, there is always someone to take the blame, whether it be a war between two countries or an argument between siblings. In the play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, it is no different. This story shows tragedy after tragedy and focuses on the tragic events that led the lovers to their deaths. However, there is much controversy surrounding who is to blame for the tragedies that took place. Some say that their families caused the deaths, while others say their counselor and mentor, Friar lawrence, is to blame since he married the two despite the potential consequences. Based on the facts, Romeo is to blame for all the tragedies that took place. Romeo acted infatuatedly, vengefully, and impulsively throughout this play, causing him to produce many tragedies along the way.
In the tragedy Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, two impatient and reckless teenagers; Romeo and Juliet fall madly in lust for each other. One thing stands between their love, their families are at war with each other. They hate anyone from the opposing family. In the end both Romeo and Juliet take their own lives. There are many people to blame; Friar Laurence, the Apothecary, Balthasar, Friar John, Juliet’s Parents, and Romeo himself comes to mind but, whose fault is really? Romeo is the reason why Juliet and he died because he was impatient, passionate, and irrational.
Even though there are many different views on who was most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, through information in the text it is clear to see that Friar Laurence was most responsible. The Friar took it upon himself to marry the two in secret making them inseparable. The Friar came up with the plan that was doomed from the start and ultimately lead to the death of the two teens. William Shakespeare’s work was very controversial, Romeo and Juliet was no exception, it involved the death of many people and two suicides of teens just for
However, they were not the only ones to blame for their death. One character that is to blame is Friar Laurence, the priest. To start off, Friar was the adult or the mature person in this situation. When Romeo came to Friar for advice and to inform him that he has fallen in love, Friar is surprised that he got over Rosaline so quickly.
Who is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death’s their family, Friar Laurence, or was it Romeo and Juliet’s fault? The people who are the most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths are their parents. Their parents are responsible because if the parents never had a family feud Romeo and Juliet wouldn’t have never hid their love for each other and their parents also caused them to go to friar Laurence for advice. Their parents because if the parents never had the feud they wouldn’t have to hide their love each other.
Also, another mistake made was trusting an irresponsible person to deliver such an important message. Friar John, who is told to deliver the message, quotes “I could not send it-here it is again,- nor get a messenger to bring it thee, so fearful were they of infection (Act 5, Scene 2, Lines 14-16). If he had told Friar John how important the letter was before sending him and not after, there could have been a better chance of Romeo getting it. Not only does he make careless plans, he also left Juliet when she needed him the most. Had the Friar not left the tomb, it would not have given Juliet the opportunity to kill herself.
“I’m forcing open your rotten jaws, and in revenge I’ll cram you with more food!”(5.3.71-72) As Romeo is saying this, he is talking about how death had taken his love, and now he too will feed death by killing himself. This shows not only that it was his own intention to kill himself, but that it was Juliet's doing as well. If her and Friar had not of gone through with this not so thought out plan, Romeo would not have gone to the extent of killing himself, which moments later resulted in Juliet's death. On the other hand though, Juliet would not have had to find a plan at all if he would not have killed her cousin, Tybalt. They both made poor decisions on their part. When it comes down to it, sadly it was their own intent to die, even though everyone knows they would have loved to stay alive with each other. Both did not see the point of living though, if the other one was not there to live with them. Overall, there were many people involved for the death of the two lovers, but they were the ones that committed the
Without even thinking about it Friar Lawrence's plan was a terrible plan just out of common sense as there were too many things out of the Friar’s control that could have happened. First, he has to worry if the potion even will work when Juliet takes it or even if she takes it at all. Then he has to worry about getting the word to Romeo about the plan which of course never happened. “But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua; Where thou shalt live, till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of the prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou went'st forth in lamentation.” (4.2.100-105). Here Friar Lawrence explains his badly thought-out plan. His impulsive acts and plans end up getting him in trouble and costing Verona to Young people's lives. His plans failed because he did not take his time and did not think of being more reasonable because his Solutions were completely unrealistic. In a way, Friar Lawrence could be seen as a little bit selfish. Friar Laurence's religion does not permit already married people to get married. This would mean that the Friar would be going against his oaths. Marrying Romeo and Juliet when Juliet already has an arranged marriage with Paris would have
In the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, Friar Laurence is responsible for their deaths. So many things were done wrong by Friar Laurence, that lead to their deaths. The first mistake that Friar Laurence made was to agree to marry the two in secret and without the permission of their parents. The next bad advice he gave, was when he instructed Juliet to fake her own death. The last wrong thing was giving the message for Romeo to an unreliable messenger. If any of these events did not take place, their deaths could’ve been avoided.
Another mistake Friar Laurence made was trusting Friar John to send the letter to Romeo, and not even telling Friar John that the letter explained the situation of Juliet’s “death”. He is very careless, because he only tells Friar John how
Now Juliet is left alone in a tomb alone knowing that her is dead. Friar Laurence also was suppose to give Romeo a letter with a plan but it never got delivered to Romeo. Friar Laurence ask Friar John “ Who bare my letter, then, to Romeo”. Friar John answered back “ I could not send it- here it is again-”. That’s another reason why Friar Laurence is at fault for Romeo and Juliet death, Never got the plan out letter to Romeo.
